Because your salutation seemed broad, and you do write about multi-situations, I just wasn't sure. But thank you for the explanation. And no, there's nothing "wrong" with me--just a very detailed person who likes clarity. (There are billions of us..... )
All throughout the United States other citizens call us "ducks". (Much of Oregon is rainy, wet more often than not...also a college team is known as The Oregon Ducks - University of Oregon)
There are many, many English people living in the United States who say "Ducks". just so you know...it's not archaic as you imply. Reminds me of that adage used in Army posters--"Hey Private Smith--help me out with this marching problem. All the other troops are out of step--except YOU."
Confluence---I believe it means a meeting that goes well, like two streams running together. An Estuary is a confluence of a river or stream flowing into the ocean, for example.
I'm throwing out an educated thought--"Happy Holidays" covers multiple celebrations, Christian and non. Jewish, Kwanza, etc...usually fall around the same time as Christmas. Because we are a "melting pot" it's kind of a way to be courteous to many without being presumptuous. Not such a bad idea, if you ask me.
If you don't mind a little help, or at least my attempt to help: Perhaps re-do your schtick. (how you ramble about yourself). After looking at your profile here, it seemed that you have much to offer but put it in a different package (no pun intended..) elaborate a little more regarding "ships and stuff" (excuse me for being too analytical, but that makes you look or seem like a bumpkin. Few people are entertained by pretension....it may seem "cute" to a few, but it's not a good bet, overall. Hope this gives you an idea. You look great, you are definitely academic--use those attributes instead of modeling Mortimer Snerd.
I believe we are all guilty of this. Sometimes it's about upbringing, sometimes it's laziness. Prime example: nasty hangover. The prevention is as clear as it can be, but for many, they keep happening! (One can drink a lot and still not have a hangover. it's about timing, hydration, moderation--so, even for drinkers, it IS preventable).
