RE: Which supermarket?

We have trouble introducing businesses here, too. The small “mom &pops” can’t seem to stick to the wall ( even though our city management INSISTS they want them…) Trader Joe’s and Costco won’t build, citing demographics and low population (I personally think one of them, TJ or C, would thrive…there are enough people in all the small towns together. Heck, folks would come from not only Coos Bay/North Bend, but from Charleston, Barview, Cooston, Empire, Green Acres, Coquille, Fairview, Myrtle Point, Reedsport, Bandon , Sixes, Port Orford, Bridge, Lakeside, Powers, and a handful of others. Who’s ever seen a Trader Joe,s or Costco NOT be busy?! We have Walmart and Kroger, plus Safeway and a local family chain, but I would really like another option. We lost Macy,s, JC Penney, K-Mart , Bon Marche, and a couple of good men’s clothing and athletic supply outlets.

RE: What is your favorite room in your home?

Oh, my friend…read “Hyacinths To Feed The Soul”… we are here for pleasant things, too, be of good cheer, my friend…

RE: Which supermarket?

I wasn’t patronizing! You assume too much, and frequently the “negative”! Look, other members have pointed this out— you wear people down with this superfluous need to “one-up” everything. Back to the matter: Food production will eventually be unsustainable if the population continues to grow at the current rate. However, there is every chance that it could slow down, even halt (population growth). There is a strong belief that the universe tends to “balance” itself…ie, floods, earthquakes, tsunamis, pandemics, etc…but, otherwise, yeah, we’re in trouble. The masses can’t really micro-farm— the vertical horticulture fad peters out, rooftop farming is whimsical, at best, and the materials and appliances needed far exceed the benefit, a long step backward.

RE: What is your favorite room in your home?

Fostering a dog can mean having to give it up after a period of time, and that can be traumatizing for both you and the animal. But it’s a very much needed service, as the dog may be scheduled for euthanasia (no room at the shelter..) and it gives the shelter a chance to offer the dog to a permanent home and to interview potential owners. Also, some people might be able to only take the pet for a short time. Be careful— you may fall madly in love, and then have to part…think about it carefully, and you might find you’d be a better “Forever” parent, instead.

RE: What is your favorite room in your home?

I understand. No one else in my bed…I do like Skedaddle purring near me, but that’s my only exception.cats meow

RE: What is your favorite room in your home?

My bedroom, I guess. And don’t think I’m a freak, but I LOVE my bathroom! I just deep-cleaned and put in new rugs, laundry hamper, and a fake but gorgeous houseplant— it looks like a picture out of a retro-decorating book. I’m chill with putting my living spaces together…

RE: Which supermarket?

Fresh fish is getting high around here, and this the Pacific Ocean, FFS! Salmon was about 5 or 6 dollars for one boneless filet, it’s now about 10. Love Halibut? It’s a rich man’s food now— I saw a chunk, probably 10 ounces, for sale for $23.00. That is way too high. Specialty items like pesto, Bruschetta, Feta in saltwater, all getting very high. I like focaccia, it’s now almost $10.00 a loaf…geeze Louise..

RE: Which supermarket?

Stop putting words in my mouth. I do not “aid and abet piggy murder”. I just presented facts. That’s not the same thing. ( I do not use pork, btw..) You likely hit on something. Soylent Green could happen. Already food supplies of many sources are dwindling. Clearing out farms and ranches to build more houses and businesses is rather stupid…not much afore-thought going on. Jac, I’m not the only poster who has asked you to not put words in others’ mouths. Not cool. Try being groovy with members, don’t come across as sarcastic or vituperative. Thanx…

RE: Which supermarket?

I couldn’t agree more. I’ve been saying this same thing regarding many consumer items—just say NO!head banger I noticed some members discussing their “discount” stores— here we have ‘The Dollar Tree’…nothing over one dollar. Now, in Oregon there’s no “sales tax”, so it really WAS only one dollar per single item. But…Dollar Tree just increased its bottom line pricing to $1.25. That’s a TWENTY FIVE PER CENT raise. (In any economy that’s superfluously high..). They’re still going to keep the name, I’ve heard, but will have to tweak the advertising gimmick. I’ll agree that a buck and a quarter is still low. I just bought Comet, and Palmolive, and two four-packs of toilet paper ( like I freakin’ need more..) these all are name- brand and sell for two to four times as much in other stores, so it’s still a bargain. We also have ROSS here. Recently I redid my bath— covers, rugs, shower curtain and liner, for $31.75. Another store (Penney’s, Sears, etc…) it would have been $140.00 for exactly the same merchandise….shop around. A little unsolicited info, take it or leave it: Expensive supermarkets are Albertsons, Rays, Safeway. Better bargains are Kroger (Freddie’s), WINCO ( used to be CUB), Grocery Outlet, Dollar General, in the south, Circle K, Winn-Dixie, and all over, Walmart. In Oregon we have Bi-Mart, and don’t know if they still exist, but there was a chain called “Bazaar” for a long time. We just got a Harbor Freight at our local mall. Everyone says it’ll be a hit— lots of farming, trucking, logging going on here…peace, darlings…teddybear

RE: Which supermarket?

Jac, dear, businesses are going to sell bacon. It will always be for sale. Always. It’s great you are vegetarian/vegan. I get it. The world gets it. Businesses are going to continue to sell bacon, right or wrong. The world economy is measured, still, by “Pork Barrel”. This isn’t facetious. It’s about how the controllers figure overall pricing. They aren’t changing it. Chicago will move hog sales along. Forever. It doesn’t matter if you, or I, or anyone, disagrees. They are going to sell bacon. Forever. Forever. Forever. They have the gold. Do you understand?

RE: Which supermarket?

We have ‘Walmart’, ‘WINCO, Kroger, Winn-Dixie, Fresh-Mart, Longs, Ray’s, Safeway, and Albertsons here in the U.S. So far, except for a couple of “off” days, everything one needs for house and pantry is in ready supply. I DID notice at Freddie’s (Kroger) this morning there was a short supply of fresh fish, and the two pkgs available were sky-rocket priced. But that’s not the norm…I paid $1.12 a roll for toilet paper today— it’s usually about 30 cents. I stocked up…

RE: Has anyone told you in the cs forums that you are liar.

I don’t recall having been called a liar, but I’ve been “corrected” on some things that weren’t exactly accurate. I’m OK with that…

RE: Jesus the Great

a the major effort, in any “religion”, as it were, is to illustrate a story, a fable, if you will, rather than being so mesmerized on whether it “really happened”. For example, Jesus tells a story of good farming. ( Sowing durable seeds in verdant fields means giving sage information to people alert and willing to listen to it. )

RE: Do you believe in karma?

the most succinct way, while still covering bases, is:YOU GET WHAT YOU GIVE..

RE: Do you believe in karma?

I believe in Karma.

RE: What is sensitive about men?

I’ll be the first to agree that some things just don’t make sense. How come a guy can fix an outboard, build a deck, build a house, for crying out loud, but can’t sew a button on a shirt?

RE: What is the difference?

There was a unique era from just pre- Victorian to around The Great Depression where terms such as “The Age Of Enlightenment” and Paranormal Spiritualism” were household catch-phrases. Seances, palm- reading, Tarot, crystal-ball reading were all the rage. Then, “Revival Meetings” (see “ Elmer Gantry”) swept the nation with a smoking hot fever. An experienced ‘ enlightened’ individual sees him or her self as being capable of foreseeing, to a point, the future, and/or at least geared to navigate it. And, they’ll share this knowledge—for some dough- ray-me…of corse. (I was invited to attend a “ wonderful” church in Portland, and found the initial services to be positive, happy, friendly. Going through a rough emotional patch, I went to see their minister, or one of their ministers. When seated in this “enlightened” pastor’s office, he began, “Please look over this fee schedule. If you want to apply for a sliding-scale program, please see our administrative assistant”. I went to the pub and perked up for three bucks. wine

RE: What is sensitive about men?

In a word— pets. Even the most rugged, butch men melt when a tiny kitten rubs against them.

RE: What do you think would happen if ...

It means that the destruction will be so severe that mankind will be set back to the Cro-Magnon/caveman era.

RE: Have you ever experienced a Manifestation?

So, I’m wondering why this is…humanity seems willing to talk about just about anything and everything else BUT…why such adamant repulsion to discussing spirituality? Is it SO personal that many people feel intruded upon? Yet when one visits some churches, especially fundamentalist types: (hollering minister, insisting that individual congregants “ share” their “ sinful” tales of debauchery, sobbing, crying people herded like cattle to an “alter-call”, etc…) so, in those instances it seems people want to…I for one subscribe to the belief that it is private, not to be “shared”.

RE: Should all Religions and charities be Federal tax funded only.

BUMP

RE: Have you ever experienced a Manifestation?

(Is there any reason why consciousness can't exist outsde the brain?)

The very “stuff” of many spiritual beliefs; Christian, Mormon, Hindi, Buddhism, Islam. ( the idea that consciousness is infinite/ eternal)

RE: Have you ever experienced a Manifestation?

did you get that??

rolling on the floor laughing

RE: Have you ever experienced a Manifestation?

So, “manifestation” succinctly, is “the proof of a reality”. —-I see what the majority of people would say is water. I touch it. It is real. The moisture left on my hand is THE MANIFESTATION THAT WATER IS WET.

RE: Should all Religions and charities be Federal tax funded only.

“The Ballad of Aimee Semple McPherson” Pete Seeger

“The Disappearance of Sister Aimee”— docudrama for television

RE: Should all Religions and charities be Federal tax funded only.

I believe it should be about accountability, like everything else. (Churches get write-offs —not for being a church, but for charitable contributions.: Food banks, housing support/ vouchers, discretionary funds for hospital, related travel, etc…)

RE: Wedding Gift for Older Couple

A couple of ideas come to mind: 1. stationery and a book or two of stamps. Step it up by including return-address labels ( with THEIR name and address..). 2. A Harry &David *monthly gift box—each month they get a package of fruit, or candy, pastry, etc…or fresh flowers. Usually things that need to be consumed quickly…no storage problem. 3. Suppers in a “kit” mailed to them a few times a year. 4. A nice plant, such as Amarylis.

* or company like them…google them to get a full picture of what I’m talking about..

RE: Officer Kim Potter Made A Mistake.......A Very Bad Mistake

Update on Kim Potter: Sentenced to TWO years only— family is outraged. She’ll likely be released sooner, for time already served. I admit I’m a little surprised. However, a BART officer killed a black man at the Fruitvale (?) station, and only received two years…it appears the rulings are based on intention, not outcome. But if someone breaks the law, trespasses, and is injured or dies in your swimming pool, you’re liable. America needs to re-shuffle the deck and deal out a fairer game for all. Just saying..
