RE: Trending?

I really promote public libraries— so much available at no cost— think about it: books, current local and National newspapers, magazines, you can check out movies, music discs, our public library has about 35 non-book items you can borrow, just like a book. ( Belgian Waffle Maker, Sewing machine, guitar, to name a few). If you’re not going to use a household item much, then why buy it…also, if you have a difficult time finding peace and quiet, and room, to do your bills, taxes, etc…it’s a perfect place, no charge, like a home office you don’t have to pay for or keep up. I save thousands of dollars, literally, not buying cds, dvds, books, etc…It’s the way to go…btw— kindle sucks. People need to read real books leisurely. This need to automate everything is screwed up, FFS. No wonder there is so much unhappiness. People aren’t living right.

Hi. OK, it looks like several of us, including myself, didn’t know of this organization. Take it easy, man. People aren’t as bad as you sometimes appear to think…”easy there”..comfort

I meant to say those figures
($110 and $200) were MONTHLY. I think that’s equivalent to about 400 Pound. I’ve become quite the salad fan:

Ro’s House Salad:

4 large Romaine leaves, cleaned and veined.
5 red radishes, cleaned and thinly sliced
1 large carrot, peeled and grated.
2 or three green onions, sliced. Use all durable chive shoots, too.
4 or five fresh white mushrooms, sliced.
2 ripe tomatoes, gutted and diced.
8 or so large ripe olives, sliced.
Romano or Parmesan cheese.
Blue Cheese , crumbled
Salt, pepper, lemon

Tear Romaine into bite-size pieces. Set in deep bowl, pour juice of one large lemon over, dash with salt and pepper. Gently toss until all is coated. Drain, but save lemon liquor. Toss Romano in, blend. Except for blue cheese, add each vegetable ingredient One At A Time, gently tossing each as you add.**. Serve with blue cheese crumbles on the side.

**adding each item one at a time is far easier than trying to blend in the whole mess, trust me. It also makes a more evenly distributed dish. This salad goes well with a hearty soup or stew, or chili, with biscuits, cornbread, or Parker rolls.

RE: C.A.L.M

Everything you are doing is an embarrassment to the human race. Are you a man, or a juvenile delinquent? I used to kind of like you, but you have caused me to keep you at arm’s length. Exponentially. And, it’s irreparable. Do you destroy all of your friendships and acquaintances? Being a responsible adult means being discrete. Don’t keep writing to people who make it clear you’re off their radar. It’s provocative, and only screams louder that you’re being an ornery twit. STOP.

RE: C.A.L.M

STOP.

Top of the morning to you. Struggling with whether to go to church or just chill. (Still convalescing a bit from hospital stay, blah blah..) So, interesting to read your comments. My grocery bill (just food) was about $110.00 last year. I’m a very careful, frugal shopper, use coupons and watch bargain racks and bins, etc…However, this year, so far, the grocery bill is about $200.00, same products and all. Maybe I should buy a freezer and a cow, toolaugh

RE: Can you declutter your home from stuff you don’t need?

I’m currently doing an about face and restructuring my “house” life. I have many nice things, but have also gone through an earth-shattering loss of many nice things, which makes it just a little harder to do. I know I’ll be successful because it’s something I really want. (When I visit a friend in a very minimalist home or apartment, I find myself envious…)

Yo buddies out there

OK I’m back. Got all through with the refrigerator. Almost filled a hefty bag with the toss-outs, old plastic containers, jars, etc…my it looks really nice, almost as if a decent person lives in this house..ha ha. Thought about you guys while working— so, many of you seem to like to talk about food. Today I had something I’d never ever had. Deep fried macaroni and cheese. Good heavens it was delicious. ( they make old fashioned macaroni and cheese, chill it, roll it into balls about the size of a kiwi fruit, dunk it in egg, roll it in cracker crumbs and then fry.) I also had a Panini. Roast beef and Monterey Jack. Very good. Ok, I can’t do all the work. Somebody add to this night gallery!!teddybear

They give you something to do— but you don’t get anywhere.

Yo buddies out there

Hi guys. I’m bored. Will someone please start an interesting thread…not too heavy, not too light. C’mon…I’m cleaning the refrigerator— I would have one of those with the difficult to remove crispers and this one big shelf. It sits on the crisper drawers, has a heavy glass top that has to be carefully taken off, there’s a rod that has to be removed (you need three hands…) and the frame has more grooves than Chubby Checker, all full of crap. And crap. Well, I got it clean, perfecto. Now, to re-assemble and get back in the fridge right. Why does everything have to be so freaking hard? They can put men on The Moon and robots on Mars but they can’t make an easy to clean refrigerator!

RE: Inflation Nation USA

Oregon, along with several other states, is quickly becoming a cooperative-rent community. The price-gouging on residential leases went WAY over the top, disenfranchising hundreds of thousands of honest, hard-working people. (It was becoming a situation of only the rich being able to have a decent place to live…). I try to put myself in a property investors’ shoes, and I “get” it. However, a roof over one’s head is not elective, like jewelry or designer clothing, or even a sports car— it’s a human need everyone has, and it’s inappropriate to make it unavailable because of income. I’m a strong supporter of H.U.D., Sections 8 and 9, Council houses and flats, rent control. Think about the guy working full-time washing dishes and bussing tables. His entire monthly take-home pay won’t cover, or just covers, rent on an efficiency or studio. He doesn’t want to share housing or just get a room. He should be able to have a comfortable apartment that is affordable. If greedy property owners aren’t going to be fair, then I’m all for the government MAKING them be fair. Before you find fault with me for this, put yourself in a low-income person’s shoes- working hard 40+ hours a week and can’t even have an apartment? Totally and completely unfair…

RE: need help

What are you doing involving yourself in this? Ex is ex for a reason…AND, karma is real. If the break-up between her and you was your wish, then you need to step away fully. If you wanted her to stay, and it was her idea to leave, then her chips are falling as they may; the universe is evening the score. It is exponentially inappropriate for you to insinuate yourself into her problems in any way, shape, or form. If you talk to her, make it one more time only, and tell her point-blank that you are NOT facilitating and then block HER. People need to learn their lesson, and the way you’re going about it is NOT helping the process. Get yourself a brand new life. Without THEM.

RE: What's the difference between......

Yes, I know you’re correct. I wasn’t saying otherwise. I wonder, if for safety’s sake, it would be prudent to send a letter to the commerce authorities, because you bring up a very important observation and record.thumbs up

RE: Just fun

I believe what you want is possible, but extremely rare. All of the women I’ve known in my 60+ years, no matter how independent, etc… want stability and security. Even if they say NSA, they really don’t want that. Women, by and large, want a safe place to land, a nest. Why not reassess your priorities, find a super nice lady (you can do this) and have some permanent arm candy? You might be surprised to find out it works for you. Hint:

There’s always free cheese in a mousetrap.

They’ll hug you and kiss you, and tell you more lies, than cross-ties on railroads, or stars in the sky.

RE: What's the difference between......

In America many people still say it, and it continues to be printed on some merchandise and machinery, etc…

RE: What's the difference between......

1. Irregardless
2. Regardless.

1. On accident.
2. By accident.

The #1’s are incorrect.

RE: What's the difference between......

1. “I could care less”
2. “I couldn’t care less”

Most people say #1. It’s incorrect.

RE: The disadvantages about modern life ..

Over-zealous political-correctness. People just waiting for someone to say just the “wrong” thing. Every situation somehow becomes a cause celebre. Road rage— guy in loud truck giving others the finger, revving, shouting profanities…(pulls into his neighborhood pub, goes in..all hugs, now he’s everybody’s best buddy…) Society has gone to the mega-ridiculous.

RE: The Reith Lectures 2022 - AI

Thank you. You understood what I meant. Perhaps I’m in the minority ( or not) but I am inclined to reject, or at least be reluctant, to embrace AI. It has very dark repercussions, in my view. ie, —-“artificial intelligence” is an oxymoron in my opinion.

RE: The Reith Lectures 2022 - AI

First, I googled “Reith” lectures; read up a bit on Lord Reith, BBC commentator. I must say you have high eclectic hopes starting this threadlaugh the subject matter is as varied as flower types— just where would one begin? Perhaps you could choose a particular lecture in this genre, and have folks start from there…like, “In what direction do you ( readers) see the recyclables/bio-degradables movement heading?” Otherwise, there’s no focus point, no compass.
