RE: Synchronicity

Look at how many people have a story about running into someone they know in a crowded city, on an airplane, unplanned, unforeseen. I’ve been to Reno, Nevada a bunch of times. Every time I’m there, I meet someone I know from somewhere else—Portland, Boise, Kansas City, etc…Now, what are the chances, really? That one will run into the one person also visiting that city, at that exact intersection, that exact moment, that casino, gift shop, grocer, whatever…I mean, that circumstance is so “out there” it just has to be some kind of miracle. But it happens to folks ALL THE TIME. Synchronized?confused something funny going on here on Earth…is it a God thing? Your thoughts? Or just it’s a small world, after all?

RE: Psychiatrist

it’s a sad state of affairs when psychiatrists (some) are really just charlatans. Look, it doesn’t take all that much effort to figure people out. Gypsies do it all the time. People walk away from Astrologers in awe and amazement. Tarot readers mesmerize even highly educated people. And so on…Having a complex is a luxury illness. Psychiatrists cost loads of cash. (that’s why the poor are rarely seen…it’s a money thing)

RE: Does it exist.

I’m afraid I’ve allowed myself to become jaded concerning love…I’d always thought I wasn’t that kind. Guess love did such a rotten number on me I wish I never loved anyone…it would have been better for me. And, in the final analysis, I live a pleasant solitary life. So where did “love” get me? I’m alone, anyway, FFS.

RE: Care worker sacked for refusing Covid vaccination

Im not defending any point of view in the following, but it does illustrate the picture, a bit. And, as I’ve said before, here in the U.S., much of what we do, ie, public policy, is in direct conflict with what we said we wanted when the country was chartered. We have, indeed, become what we fled. One cannot put up a hedge, fence, tree, etc…without going through a complicated process, and paying a substantial fee. Cannot build a house without same, add a room, deck, pool, etc…cannot rent unless you prove an income level, rent a car unless you have a credit card, hotel, cruise, air fare all contingent on forced purchase of credit. Hundreds more of these policies that fly in the face of freedom. Hell, you’re not allowed to vote against party in a primary election. Cannot protest on or too near private enterprise even if they operate with government funds. Thousands more…kind of makes the vaccination argument a bit shallow…although I do understand. It’s tough to live in a contrary world. Gotta cowboy up…

BUMP!!

RE: Psychiatrist

My sincere pleasure. We (Americans) are having a terrible medical kerfuffle here; several of my friends (and, ironic to academic peerage, we’re professional nurses!) find themselves being assigned a practitioner or P.A. Instead of an M.D. Well, then the insurances, yes, the Federal ones, too, decline to cooperate because there is no “doctor” on the panel, even though they recommended the P.A. , or other practitioner. When the patient calls the exchange to be assigned an M.D., those available physicians decline, stating “I’m not comfortable with his/ her medications/profile/ whatever. What a run-a-round! Gee, shall the mechanic refuse to work on car engines because they’re greasy? The teacher refuse to enter her classroom because kids are rowdy? The carpenter refuse to repair a roof because he doesn’t like heights? Since when do doctors get to cherry-pick. What!? Custom-designed patients only?

RE: Psychiatrist

Hi there— I read your post very seriously. There is definitely a pharmaceutical crisis. It is absolutely dangerously irresponsible not to ‘titrate’ certain medications, and it sounds like what you are using falls in that category. I adamantly advise you to get advocacy. Do not take “no” for an answer. Write your representative, do it the old fashioned way with a stamp and a guarantee of return- receipt. (When they get mail like this they know you’re not fooling around). Tell your doctor that her decision is untenable. Take action.

“Of COURSE its O.K. Just in private, and not TOO much. And, this is important— take your TIME…happiness is found along the way, not at the end of the road.

RE: Psychiatrist

A good psychiatrist says very little. They let you tell them what you already know (and they know, too— they’re professional fortune-tellers) and then create a euphoria making you feel heroic for ironing out your wrinkles, while amazingly giving the doctor (them) the credit. You willingly pay them the $200.00 + per session because your addiction to needing validation has been fixed.

Your bartender will do it for a $9.00 double-Sea Breeze and a $5.00 tip…same result ( generally)

RE: If you had to move to another state.....where would you go and why?

I’d consider small-coastal California*, but south of Santa Cruz. Several reasons: I’m familiar with California Life; many visit here as we border close. Love the beach, but it would have to be warm. Casual, friendly lifestyle, fairly easy to blend in and make friends.

* there are still some small towns on the California coast.

RE: What's going to happen if capitalist will fall in love with a socialist or communist?

So, a neighborhood public elementary school (Socialist institution) has a bake sale (Capitalist enterprise)…

So, Community Action/State or County Human Resources has rental/ utility/grocery vouchers (Socialist bureau) which filter and flow cash back to Realtors/Gas-Power-Water-Sewer/Supermarkets (Capitalist enterprises).

So, if a Democrat falls in love with a Republican, an Orthodox Jew falls in love with a Roman Catholic……..do you get the gist?

All of these seemingly compromising trains of thought and action occur all the time.

RE: Does it exist.

in my own life experience, and observations of others, I’m inclined to think that “true” love RARELY exists. People are very quick to cut and run when a relationship gets challenging (and no relationship is insulated from those eventualities). The ideal is charming and makes a lovely, warm bedtime story. But that is all.

RE: I miss the nice women

Hey there. Don’t know how serious you are…but here’s something to think about: I write fairly frequently (on CS provided profile emails) to two ladies, both long- time members. They both say they’ve shyed away from the forums because of the fighting, hostility, political bashing…they feel has over-run. That could be a reason…girls just want to have fun….as the song goes. Some of us guys, too.cheers

RE: Can you be happy anywhere

For a long time there was a popular catch-phrase, “Bloom where you’re planted”. I suppose that has value, but over the years I’ve come to fully comprehend that it isn’t always so. If you find yourself in Phoenix, and you really don’t like cosmopolitan desert cities….well, only one life to live, so it’s reasonable to move. I loved Portland for decades. I found that I loved the Uralic beach community BILLIONS of times more. My 15 years (actually, back home…) have been the unequivocally best years EVER. I recommend moving, for some, at times.

RE: Canada, and being Canadian

I started to respond to an earlier post, then saw this dinosaur thread has been around a long time. Don’t know how germane my comments would be— but, about the immigration: it seems to me that Canada is arbitrary concerning this. Some applicants get the bum’s rush, some get waved in courteously, some get temporary asylum, some get run out. dunno

RE: How to deal with feminists

I SO hear you. I just went to a Medicare Insurance event, which included the benefits you are talking about. A weird “catch-22” is that the best benefits are so expensive only retirees who don’t really need them can afford them. And, who can part with any MORE of our already skimpy pensions, us poor folk, I mean?handshake

RE: How to deal with feminists

Masculists, or, “Masculism” does exist, but has a difficult time getting a (fair) shake. Even male talk-show hosts will ‘shut down’ a male guest who tries to defend mens’ rights. Dr. Phil has done it bunches of times. Here’s what I believe: it has become popular on prime television to saturate with feminism. Watch “The View”, “The Talk”, for example. I’m not saying it isn’t great that women are getting equal rights- of course it is. But it excludes allowing men to do the same. Recently a male guest who suggested some empathy for the problems with this type of discrimination was boo-hissed, abused with a “oh yew por widdle babuh boi…”
attitude, something that wouldn’t be tolerated the other way around. Men are, and have been, treated badly in America. When righteously attempting to defend themselves, they are ridiculed.
