RE: What do you think of yourself....?

I’m on the fence about how to answer the OP question. First, I believe it’s extremely important to avoid being egotistical…however, I believe it’s also extremely important to know one’s value and strengths. Can the two exist harmoniously? When I do compare myself to others, I sometimes wish that others ( some) would be as patient, and utmost, kind, as I see myself as being. Not saying I’m perfect, or anywhere near, but I’m not mean. I’ll walk away from a full expensive drink instead of getting into a confrontation or fight. I’m good at giving the benefit of the doubt. I tend to share what I have or come into. I tip generously. handshake

RE: The dodo dollar store.

I remember The 88 Cent Store, Sprouse Reitz, JJ Newberry’s, and Economy Drug and Gift Stores.

RE: Why are more and more older people today getting the big D ?

The social climate has been changing drastically since the late 1950’s. Both men and women simply are unwilling to put up with whatever it is they don’t want to put up with. Compromising has become out of the question. Annoying habits of partners’ are no longer tolerated. The grind of daily living, especially in metropolitan areas, is so unnerving that coming home to a confrontational wife or husband is just not going to be tenable. And the tolerance of separation and divorce by society makes it rather easy. Why be bullied or nagged when one doesn’t have to? It’s easy to see why couples split. Everyone is fed up and frequently at the breaking point.

RE: Things not to say at a funeral..

So, this is an oldie, you might have heard it:

So Sean O’Donnell is on his last leg of life’s journey, being kept warm and comfortable on a cot. His doting wife, sitting beside him, is holding his hand, and gently dabbing his brow. “Dearie”, she says, “Dearie, is there anything you want that I can do? Anything at all?”
P’raps”, he says timidly, “P’raps ye could fetch me a wee bowl of that cabbage and beef on the range. Smells so heavenly…” wife thinks for just a moment, then says,
“It DOES smell delicious. Best batch I think I’ve made in years. But ye’ll not have any of ‘t.”
“How come?” Sean asked.
“Oh, don’t be daft”, she answered. “‘Tis for the wake!”

RE: Gabby Petito / Brian Laundrie. What happened ?

I fully agree that he needs to be brought to justice. Please understand the gist of my post. The police undoubtably would have very much liked to have arrested him prior to his ( alleged) escape. They could not. Otherwise, they certainly would have. But that’s not how America “ works”, ideally, anyway. I hope with everything in me that they find him. I’m not defending HIM. I’m defending everyone’s rights. handshake

RE: Worry

“Guilt and Worry, like a rocking chair-
Give you something to do-
But you don’t get anywhere”

RE: Injection

Had both, now Oregon recommending a third. I don’t think I experienced any side- effects. Arm sore for a couple of days, but that’s normal with sub q and deep tissue injections.

RE: Sadness

Oh I could hide ‘neath the wings, of the bluebird as she sings
The six o’clock alarm would never ring
But it rings, and I rise, wipe the sleep out of my eyes
My shavin’ razor’s cold, and it stings

Cheer up, Sleepy Jean, oh what can it mean?
To a day- dream believer, and a home- coming queen…

You once thought of me, as a white knight on his steed—
Now you know how happy I can be

(Davy Jones said this song caused him depression…sadness). It’s funny what goes on in the world, and yeas, much sadness. Not easy for any of us

Plaisir d’amour:

The joy of love, is but a moment long,
The pain of love
Endures your whole life long

A little fun to start the day

Let’s hear some favorite sayings/idioms/ similes…

For instance, “He carry’s coal to Newcastle”
Or
“You gotta break eggs to make an omelette”

RE: Rain

I think those things I was trying to describe are called “The Causeways”. Maybe..dunno

RE: Rain

One would think that. However, a relative of mine has traveled to The Lake District, Hadrian’s Wall, Solway Firth, and that coastal area where the rock formations look like citadel castles..(I forgot the exact name, but they are really something to see..) and she tells me that all this is acutely true: cell service for a bit, such as Carlisle and surrounding, then no technical service for distances, and so sporadic it sounds like sizzling bacon, then nothing, then weird spurts of communication, then sizzling/nothing, etc…WOW— how frustrating that MUST be in a country believed to be very modern. But it seems so. Tourists are sometimes met with verbiage such as “internet and mobile telephone services may be compromised or non-existent. Please prepare for these eventualities”.

RE: Rain

Just wondering— even though the U.S. is up- to- the- minute technologically, we have “ pockets” where getting cell and internet service is very weak or non-existent. Indeed, there is a long-standing joke here in Coos Bay about ‘people living out in the country drive miles to town— to make a phone call..laugh Do you have this occurring in UK?

RE: Stress

You have nothing whatsoever to do with it. You ridiculous little nothing…rolling on the floor laughing

RE: Stress

Hey, InThewoods— absolutely LOVED the kid with the cigarette. Would like to get that in a fridge magnet or picture. It speaks volumes…handshake

RE: Feeling things too deep....?

RE: why do all females love bad boys

I hear you. It’s a big enough issue to have books written about it, movies made about it, therapists with doctoral degrees having a brisk business going, talk-shows highlighting it, courtrooms over-flowing with problems caused by it, families torn apart and friendships ruined by it. Perhaps not as big a portion, like you suggest, but more than enough to stink up the pond…professor

RE: Single versus Relationship

Oh Mercedes, I would SO like to share a few hours with you in a quiet pub…who in the world wouldn’t WANT to be your friend? hug

RE: why do all females love bad boys

I’ve seen this before— and sometimes there’s a “bar bully”—- and this overall pub crawlers agreement to “ not say or do anything to upset Merry Andrew…” and people actually walk on eggshells and kowtow to this dried up meadow muffin. doh

RE: What do you know today, that you didn't know yesterday?

Big lesson for me—“What do I know today...”

NOT to give someone who is constantly problematic another chance. Well, now I know, but sure wish it hadn’t taken that last time...yesterday...roll eyes

Hot Rod Lincoln, GTO, Surfer Girl, The Safarischeering

RE: 65 year old music

Man, do I have one for you, Boy Howdy—“Jenks Tex Carman. He was popular from the 1920’s through the 1960’s—- probably most famous songs were
“Home On The Range”, “Don’t Fence Me In”, “Poor Lonesome Fellow”. He’s a kick, Whiney, cowboyish singing often on slide or dobro, Hawaiian guitar...gotta love him..handshake

RE: Who cost the most for their own protection and their family’s protection on planet earth?

Cher, Tom Cruise, Oprah Winfrey all have protection costs that would pay ten to twenty upper class salaries...One of the doctors who taught at a medical school in Portland was also a successful writer, and artist. His monthly protection cost for his West Hills home exceeded $10,000.00. MONTHLY. That was in 1998...

RE: Panhandling every day

I’m all for helping people out- however, we just can’t know where the cash is going, when we help out in that way. BTW, I don’t know how it is in other states, but in Oregon, it is now illegal to openly panhandle. Get this, too— it is now illegal ( and the fine is quite steep) to STOP your car to hand a donation out. Yes, it sure is. The deciding factor is safety. Too many accidents were caused by this, and it is considered to be impeding traffic, AND, the person donating becomes partner (aiding and abetting) in criminal activity. A side comment, and I’ve been guilty of this...do you know stopping to let a car enter the road you are on is a misdeameanor? Yes, and the police will turn on lights and ticket— it is considered hazardous. Seems ironic that you can be fined for being courteous...wildlife, too, although I disagree with this. I think we need to be careful with nature. teddybear

RE: Mask 101

I’ve already said my piece regarding masks. I DO believe this, for what it’s worth: the symbolic gesture (of wearing one) is somewhat better than nothing, and not necessarily because of actual “prevention”. It’s a constant, ‘in-your-face’ reminder to take precautions. Therefore, it becomes helpful...roll eyes sort of like a closed gate reminds you that the yard belongs to another, ie, social distancing. But seriously, I agree with the posters who say the mask does any “actual” work, with the exception of triggering the “fight or flight” response. Taking the mask off, putting it back on, breathing in old air, all diminish or cancel out any utility.
