I haven’t met anyone in person, but have spoken to a couple of members on the telephone. One member lives about 7 hours away; she and I plan to meet fairly soon, as that is not considered a great distance in the United States. Another member lives an hour and a half away; we’re both familiar with each other’s town, and may have occasion to do so. I’d participate in a meetup in Boise, Denver, etc.. but not much further.
Sure. It’s called “ surrogate”. At first I thought you should know this; however, it’s not a practice everywhere and I’m sure in some regions, illegal. There are tons of considerations, one primary one being that the surrogate will “change her mind” and want to keep the baby, which has been upheld by courts. I’m personally against it— just has way too many crosshairs in the scope. And, not to be cruel, but why can’t people accept the ups and downs of Life? We all have to...right? There is a certain sinister air about always wanting to go against the Providence’s of this life, with exception. Jmo
A person who lives a solitary life with no partner, significant other(s), etc...and desires this lifestyle, and does not interrupt another’s life, is NOT being “ selfish”. They are simply choosing a solitary life. A person who has kindred obligations - (partner, significant other(s), but wants, and actively attempts, to live a solitary life anyway, IS being selfish. Get the difference in what makes choice over obligation, as it applies to the terms of selfishness?
Dog-paddling here (don’t want to get shut down! ) I’ve noticed that threads we all seem to be participating in are either archived or dismantled sometimes. For example, I wrote about a certain civil servant in a certain Great Lakes state who ended up in court and was convicted of several capitol crimes...the thread, in my opinion, was patent and yes, lively, but no one seemed to be getting mashed, etc...but the thread, in its entirety, vanished. So, I guess, in my observations, the best ones...vanish. WTF, FFS...
Hey, I can’t find any recent threads concerning the “passing” of BNaughty..except Kaybee’s reference that he is risen...you know, some things just aren’t funny. I went through a bit of feeling very sad, detached, when I read that he was gone. If that was a prank, it was wracked...not cool. I feel like I can’t trust this club anymore. Please, members, play fair and accurate. Telling a story about a weasel and a bartender is funny. Pretending that someone has died is not. I don’t know who did this, but it was UNCOOL.
Oh thanks...I’m a stickler for correctness...like, one of the cuisine tricks I don’t care for is “ fake crab”, or “lobster”. Also, if a recipe calls for butter, such as shortbread, it “ wrecks” it to use margarine. How about “fake bacon”? Get outa town...!
Not really much of a traveler, but I’m interested in The Big Island lately..however, if I DO go, it will be one-way...I’ll have to be sure it’s what I want, because I’m not moving twice.
At the risk of breaking HIPA, ( small town here) we have, in one of our stores, a Down-Syndrome man working full- time. He handles the cashiering, as well as many other tasks. He is friendly, articulate, and obviously intelligent. (There is a stigma surrounding DS of these people being too marginal to compete in the business world beyond rudimentary jobs.)This guy breaks that mold. I believe there are noted cases of DS having advanced degrees. The high-autism of Temple Grandin did not stop HER— she has two advanced degrees and is a college professor and animal-cruelty specialist. Things aren’t always what we’ve been told to think of them as.
Spot- on... I do think in public culture, such as the bar, other gathering places, regulars who know and like each other can “get over stuff” and play nice, so to speak...happens a lot around here. Big difference between being able to get along well and actually “forgiving”, and I think that’s what some people get hung up on. And, people who go on and on about their forgiving...hmmm...”methinks thou dost protest too much”...
How true...recently I watched “The Crown”, and Margaret Snowden had a pool-boy-toy MUCH younger...what a scandal it caused. Poor Elizabeth was so freakin’ embarrassed...
My wonderful dad ( actually my grandfather...they were my” real” parents..) was the most loving, spiritual man, a true, true believer, knew the Bible through and through..he would say, “After turning my other cheek, there’s only one, you know, I don’t have to get hit a THIRD time..”
Born here, lifelong (except junior college). I hadn’t heard of the topic. Odd. WAY...are there any indicators? Someone or group that has it in for ranchers? Vegans gone mad?
That’s exactly what he looked like the day I rescued him—didn’t need the bottle but I fed him kitten “mush” with my fingers. He wouldn’t leave my side for weeks, except to drink water or go to the sandbox. Now, he’s pretty cool, but a little arrogant. Loves on me when he “feels” like it. Ornery little booger...
Hope you’re still here to read this: I was feeling the same, but have decided to hang in there for awhile. Maybe start a thread? Se if there’s some interest? Sometimes we have to row the boat if the wind doesn’t pick up... ca va...
