Hey! If we all knew the why's and but's and how's of the mind, the heart, the soul, chemistry etc... no one would ever have relationship problems or find it difficult to meet someone - and this site wouldn't exist

Happened to me with a guy 20 yrs older than me ... we had a 4 year relationship ... outside factors that neither of us was able to deal with at the time got in the way of the relationship (his grown up children/my young children - in ways I won't go into details about) - We are still friends 10 years later

It's very complicated and multi-faceted ...

many factors have built into it over many years starting with whatever was going on at home while growing up ...

one of the many factors is that while one is busy "fixing" someone else it makes it impossible to concentrate on oneself and face up to things, feelings, emotions, truths about oneself becoz fixing someone else appears easier than fixing oneself (of course fixers don't realise they are doing it) ...

another factor is if a "fixer" has been a "carer" in anyway shape or form while they are growing up, that is "what they know how to do" take care of someone who can't function by themselves ... So they get attracted to needy people ...

those are 2 things that spring to mind just off the cuff

emotional vampires absolutely brilliant descriptive but I gotta say the person "who needs to be fixed" is very good at that too because they only take and very seldom give... Also if one of the 2 people "playing the fixing/fixer game" wants to hop off from the merry-go-round through emotional growth and "doing work on themselves" either with counselling or whatever other means, the other person who can't "play the game anymore" can't function within that relationship any longer ...

On a funny note (although I didn't find it funny at the time) I told my last relationship guy that he "had vampired me out" soooooooooooooo for valentine day he gave me ....
