Over thinking is ok, but it's a good idea to rest your mind a couple of times a day. Trouble is, it's not easy and takes some practice, but the benefits are worth it.
You are your self, your mind is no more of you than your heart. Your true self cannot be found in the mind. And yes, real love essence is certainly not an emotion. All emotions dwell in the mind.
Be it your subconscious or conscious, it's your mind that wants to rule. The true self, pure consciousness will remain hidden away from most of us and the state of pure being would seem unobtainable.
But as you rightly say, meditation can give you control over your mind, instead of 'it' controlling you.
Most of us suffer from the same affliction, that is, incessant thinking. You know, that voice in your head that talks to you from the moment you awake to the moment you sleep, your mind.
But is this voice really you, your real self?
And have you ever tried, and been able to be, without thoughts for more than just a brief moment?
RE: A few things that irritate me.
You can only irritate yourself... everything else is an excuse.
