Yeah I found a lot of it crap too although he made some good points. Depression has been around since the beginning of time and to claim its a millennium thing is incorrect. Openness does help, I agree. At the end of the day we all have mental health, and like physical health, some are better at minding it than others.
I should have explained better. Yes you're right, some people need their chemical balance corrected, to help them live functional and better lives. This is where I agree with the video Capricorn posted, somewhat. The medical industry have been too reliant on handing out pills to people that don't need them. The corrupt Pharma industry has sold society on a pill being the answer to their life's problems. The trial and error in finding the right combination of pills can have adverse effects and to me, its not always the answer. Fortunately times are changing somewhat and Medical Professionals are now not just relying on medication but treating people in a more holistic way. People are different and while medication can and does work for some, for others it's not the answer and indeed can lead to other problems.
Am not so sure about the chemical imbalance in fairness Mna. It's what Psyciatry is built on, correcting a chemical imbalance. Yet there is no base line to test off as we are all different. It's really trial and error when it comes to medication and the Pharaceutical companies flouting of the rules and their advertising a 'happy' life does not help matters. As you say its complicated but at least health services are taking a more holistic approach to the treatment and its moving in the right direction.
One thing is for sure, depression and mental ill health has always been around.
The one thing I agree with 100% is where he says ''Listen, I don't know everything''. And he's a bit late to the game considering there is a whole anti psychiatry movement out there and decrying the Pharmaceutical business, whose goal is profits thru customers and not cure. From 50/60 years ago where people were just medicated and locked up Mental Health professionals are now being tasked with cure and recovery.
But depression is real, it exists, its extremely debilitating and stops people contributing and participating in society. It's not just a case of ''copping oneself on'', there's a lot more to it than that.
Nah, it was the post truth propaganda of your phrasing
See, we agree on something, there are 47 members of the UN Human Rights Council, long lasting relationships were built on less
I guess there is a clue in the name of United Nations, where countries we don't agree with have representation, such a novel idea. Despise Saudi Arabia and their treatment of children and women in particular, but I guess the UN has adopted a carrot rather than a stick approach. There are far bigger countries that have killed more people in this world than SA, in the last 20 years, against the wishes of the UN, who are actually on the Security Council and get to veto whatever they want. Thats a bigger scandal imo.
Far from being a perfect organisation, far from it, but they do a lot of good.
But your wording on the quote when you say ''Meet the Members'' and list 9 countries is a tad disingenuous in fairness. There are actually 47 member states on the UN Human Rights Council and according to the UN it should be representative, worldwide.
Personally I don't think that Saudi Arabia is representative of anything in this world but the same could be said for a lot of countries.

Just as well we have a Capital (Dublin) to keep us all in line
