I think he has a right to protest in any legal way he sees fit.
The fact that he is not standing for the National Anthem is neither here nor there imo, he is highlighting an issue he feels strongly about and has got people talking about it. I don't see it as being disrespectful to the flag or the anthem, especially in the US where he has that right.
