I loved Postcards From The Edge which Fisher wrote. She was also a great advocate for mental health issues
I am mentally ill. I can say that. I am not ashamed of that. I survived that, I'm still surviving it, but bring it on. Better me than you. I am mentally ill. I can say that. I am not ashamed of that. I survived that, I'm still surviving it, but bring it on. Better me than you.
Get rid of The Veto that for too long has been used as bargaining tools by the 'big' countries, notably Russia, America and China. We would see a far better UN then imo.
The UN does a lot of good in this world and if countries weren't allowed play favourites and political games there would be a fairer and more just world.
As for the most recent resolution.
They are right and All the countries that votes or abstained, are not anti-semetic, they are just stating what Israel is doing is Illegal. And they would be right.
Extremely difficult to do in practice. In theory I think we should hold immigrants to a higher standard than we hold citizens, given the cultural differences, language & legal differences etc, and it would be hugely beneficial to immigrants and the larger population but people have rights so I can appreciate the complications behind your suggestion. I imagine it would be easier to implement in countries like Canada/Australia than it would be in the EU.
I'd say there would be a lot of English people deported from Spain if this was implemented.
I have pondered this and definitely would love to travel more and experience more of what this world has to offer. For me climate and societal inclusiveness would be important factors in the decision. I have lived abroad before and maybe will again. I think we are lucky here in the EU with free movement of people, and a wide variety of culture and peoples to choose from, as there can be many constraints in gaining residence elsewhere.
I think its a very individual decision and based on our wants and needs one size does not fit all. You are reasonably well travelled, from what I know, so this should help make an informed decision.
Apart from that there was tyrants invading lands, plenty of homeless, refugees, wealth centred at the top of the pyramid, a lot of it through corruption and the ordinary working man being screwed.
It's great we have learnt from this and live in more enlightened times
I think it would definitely help with integration, assimilation & prospects for the individual involved. I also think it would help that people were taught basic law & a crash course on cultural issues which may arise to help them integrate. However making it compulsory may be a problem. There are countries with diff languages and wherever the person may end up settling may not speak the 'mother tongue'. If we were to expect people to pass language tests to a reasonable 'high school level' should the same not apply to citizens already there, some of whom have not achieved this level ?
I don't know, its an interesting discussion Rizla.
RE: What will you be doing on New Years Eve and Day?
Stand on your head, open wide, and I'll find a home for them
