Good and bad everywhere I suppose, but I'm lucky to live in a fantastic community that looks out for people. The fact that where I live is beside the sea with beautiful scenery is a bonus.
I have no interest what the Israelis have done with the land to be honest. Forcing people from their homes and claiming it as Israel's should have nothing to do with what people do with the land. If that's the case the Irish should lay claim to all the rivers in the world because we can turn it into Guinness You won't be surprised to hear that I disagree. I believe the vast majority of Palestinian people want to live on their own land, in peace, and I have seen many many Palestinian people profess this, even though you state they do not want to improve their own lives. That would be an improvement on the conditions Israel makes them live in now, on their own land.
I understand what you are saying re the militants, but there won't be a resolution to this unless there is engagement from both sides, and a will to resolve this. Lashing out at the world, like Netanyahu has done, over being held to account for his and his countries crimes, is not a precursor to reflection, lasting peace nor taking responsibility for one's actions.
By the same token, if this resolution is disregarded by Israel, and they continue to illegally create settlements, and the International Community let them, I would find it hard to blame someone for striking back tbh.
What Israel are doing to the Palestinian people is wrong, the International community have called them on it, and a lot will depend now on Israel's next move. Hopefully they will take it on board. If not, the UN need to enforce because if they don't it will only lead to a lot more bloodshed imo.
The UN did not vote on a resolution because of his vile rhetoric, they voted on his illegal activity in land grabbing. His superiority and vile rhetoric and lack of diplomacy did not help.
The real problem ? I think you and I think differently on what the real problem is. For me, there is a lot more evil, greed, and fanatacism in the world than muslim terrorists or Islam. For me, if this resolution helps bring about a 2 state compromise, it would greatly help an area that is extremely volatile and help the Palestinian people exist in peace.
Nail on the Head Rizla. I think Netanyahu is the reason for this resolution. His rhetoric is vile and he has undermined a lot of sincere attempts to bring about a resolution to the process. Lets face it the US through aid and arms sales has been the best friend the Israelis have had and to bring them to this juncture would have taken a lot imo.
I sincerely hope some good comes of the resolution as everyone deserves to live in peace.
As regards the fainess of the UN, I take your point, but unfortunately there has to be a political will to achieve certain goals. Look at what Saudi Arabia is doing to Yemen, disgusting, but there is not the political will there and if there was it would be vetoed in a heartbeat.
Am not sure about 'out there' but I would concur about the bill. From what I know of the situation the US pays a disproportionate share. Wonder what they get for that lol Sure Britain can well afford it after Brexit
I disagree. What has been allowed to happen to the Palestinian people is a blight and a disgrace on the world imo. From memory every country in the UN was in favour of this resolution, including Israels friend Great Britain, with only the US abstaining. Its become no more than a land grab now and more countries are recognising this. I say for once, fair play to the UN, we need more of this from them imo. The 2 state solution is fast becoming a reality, I hope, where it will be easier imo for all concerned to live under the rule of law, both local and International.
In response to the Mango Mussolini's criticism the UN tweeted.
Here's a list of 10 ways the UN makes a difference in the lives of millions every day.
Provides food and assistance to some 80 million people in 80 countries.
Supplies vaccines to 40% of the worlds children, helping save 3 million lives a year.
Assists and protects 59.5 million people fleeing war, famine and persecution.
Works with 195 countries to hold the rise in global temperature to below 2 Degrees C.
Keeps peace with 125,396 peacekeepers in 16 operations on 4 continents.
Fights extreme poverty, helping to improve the livelihood of more than 1 billion people.
Protects and promotes human rights on site and through some 80 treaties/declarations.
Coordinates a 20.1 billion dollar appeal for the humanitarian needs of 87.6 million people.
Uses diplomacy to prevent conflict, including electoral assistance in some 67 countries.
Supports maternal health, helping 30 million women survive pregnancy and childbirth.
There is absolutely no doubt the UN is a force for good in the world.
Could they be doing more, hell yeah.
But when they are at the whim of the Security Council and their personal agendas politics plays its part. The UN is not responsible for whats going on in Syria for example. Members of the Security Council are.
