RE: SHOPPING !

Actually..... its not the birth of Jesus. Thats a thread brought in by the ancient Roman Catholic church, to incorporate all pagan rituals under one banner. It was the Feast of Diana, one of the Roman goddesses. Sorry if I upset anyone here.. but facts are facts. Then somewhere along the line old St Nicholas was incorporated.. the guy became dressed in red... his story was he took round gifts for the poor, secretly, in the dead of night. Maybe we could all do that? instead of stuffing our over-filled coffers with more junk and plastic toys.sigh dunno

wave dunno confused Is this game a loser? You all SO honest !!

No one is opening a dictionary in their closet about this. I also dont actually know the actual meaning of this word, but its a nice word to use. I use it like this, and havent been ridiculed or laughed at about it yet.....

When someone makes a snide or sarcastic remark about something serious.... I say "Don't be facetious".

Its something about "putting another face on a subject", "on the surface" (surFACE).

cool

RE: To Know Somobody Is To Love somebody?

Depends on what you call LOVE ? I know my neighbours, I got nothing against them, they quite nice people, but I dont love them.

Some folk you dont like on sight, and then when you get to know them, you begin to like them... and sometimes even love them.

I am not photogenic... so I always say You gotta know me to love me... I think I am nicer than my photo! Here my ex-husbands would disagree, but who cares about their opionions anyway!dancing

Sometimes you meet someone, think they are wonderful, and then their behaviour ends up making you think they actually look like a FROG, and have the personality of a split-pea.

So.. in the end .. guess it all depends on WHO is WHO in the Zoo!dancing

RE: SHOPPING !

sleep I have no idea.... Christmas totally turns me OFF! But its one of those things one simply has to do, and I just dont understand myself about my frame of mind here? Every year, for decades, I been promising myself to get out there and buy the neccessary useful junk for each person.... and then my mind shuts down. When I eventually venture out.... the noise of the Christmas rush drives me insane.... I feel like a wild animal thats been captured and is forced to endure the mind-numbing noise generated by thousands of humans bent on their quest of ridding themselves of their cash and turning it into junk to clutter up other peoples lives..... while shopping malls turn up the volume of the monkey-grinder seasonal music.
I am probably a jaded and miserable old sod.... but I realy wish this Christmas Farce would go away, and be replaced by some realy good christian charity holiday where the central pivot is not "How much or WHAT I got for Christmas". I've said it before, and I say it now.... the degeneration of this holiday day is enforcing the mind-set on the lonely and forgotten.... its the highest suicide day of the year..... because its supposed to be THE day to be remembered.

Except we all forgotten WHO is supposed to be remembered on that day, maybe?

RE: How many of you have actually met someone from a dating site?

This Forum has become to me like a sort of "Local Coffee Shop" where one can pop in and have a chat.... some of you feel like old friends, and sometimes there's a new face, with a different point of view on some controversial subject.
Sometimes someone has been missing, and I miss them.... then back they come, with more interesting threads to discuss.
Now I feel that I have no interest in the ones who dont come into the Forum.... they send these anonymous emails saying "I like you and want to meet you" and they live something like 3450 miles away!
Thats like waiting on the street corner and striking up conversation with the first stranger that looks my way! No thanks!
I like my friends here on the Forum.... and one day is one day maybe we end up meeting... and then we will have things to talk about, like old friends?dancing

RE: clothes have we become to casual in what we wear?

I think maybe clothing has become a new "mask" to wear. We can give impressions, without actually being that person. Dress elegant, and shopkeepers treat you with respect. Dress sloppy, and wait while all the elegantly dressed get served first!

Personally I like to feel comfortable, well groomed, but comfortable. What I hate is when people go to absolutely no trouble to dress up for special occasions. Like wearing old jeans to a function... like a dinner dance, wedding, funeral, private dinner party, etc. Not that old jeans is a problem, but when topped with the same Tshirt you did the garden work in, it looks realy as though you got no respect for the person or people who went to the trouble of organising the function (funeral is respect for the family of deceased). And dressing nice for a function helps to liven the atmosphere, and makes the hosts feel you treating them with respect.

At the risk of boring you all to tears, I must tell you something that happened to me...... A sloppy dressed old lady came into my business in SA one morning, to open an account. I treated her with the same suspicion I treated all potential "run-away" customers. Only when she filled in the Account form did I recognise her name as ...... THE WEALTHIEST WOMAN in the country, (whose family owned diamond and gold mines)..... SO... never judge a person by their clothes!!(Her chauffeur had parked the Rolls Royce out of site round the corner)

RE: November 7th US Midterm Elections America Expects

Dear Mr Plarkin,

May I make a suggestion to you? Very respectfully I suggest you launch your political agenda on a site called "Schaffhausen Singles".... it would probably be more appreciated there!

Here on CS we all just a bunch of people looking for friends.

And I do realise that what America does affects the rest of the world, but what the H can we do about it, huh? You all just keep voting Bush back in all the time.

Sorry if I sound ignorant and rude to you, I am just an old lady artist with not much education, and to find your harangue here on this site was quite a shock. I do wish I could help you in some way, but on this site I dont think we much interested in politics... just ourselves.

Yeah, reckon you could have that.... cause dont the Austrians roll around in the snow after their sauna? The food thing I can believe, cause I know you big on cooking and baking.

Do you have a curtesy car to pick me up at the Bahnhof?

wine cool My dream holiday would be ......... ANY HOLIDAY!

Serious, I would love just a holiday.... no cooking, no cleaning, no having to get up in the morning when I dont feel like getting up, no laundry, no NOTHING!

Of course to not do all that, it would be more enjoyable based in a good quality hotel, with lots of sunshine, good weather, a nice big pool with realy good loungers, excellent pool-side service from servile waiters, a nice clean beach to stroll onto, gentle waves to loll in, realy talented maseurs on duty 24/7 in the fully equiped gym with sauna and jacuzzi, realy tasty food served every 3hrs throughout the day and night, dancing every night to a realy good band, djembi drumming at night on the beach around a fire (after dancing)..........

Oh well, I guess I will just have to take a Lotto ticket... again... sorry folks... whenever I do that... I win. So unfair on the rest of you all, but I just cant do anything else, with my luck.

So instead of a yacht based in the Med this time.... give me some good ideas for what to do with this win, okay? I promise I will enjoy myself.dancing dancing dancing

I hope you all know you got me to thank for that, hey? Otherwise he would still be here, having annoying conversations with himself, cause there would have been no one else around to talk to. So, okay, I accept your grateful thanks, was nothing realy, was quite fun actually... keeps me on my toes to do that once in a while. dancing dancing

RE: Words Can Hurt or Heal

scold NEVER EVER hijack a Thread... Wedy will cast you down with words of scolding...... so I better get you two back onto the thread.

Its about words, hurting and healing. And Riziwan wants to know. Why? Riziwan, surely you have experienced this yourself? You know how words can have devestating effects, and they can heal as well.

Make an experiment.... watch a little child being ever so naughty.... and say something praiseworthy to him/her, something inspiring... and watch the change in behaviour. People will generally live up to, or down to, expectations.

Words can discourage and words can encourage. cheering

RE: marriage

I do believe that the idea behind a so-called "arranged marriage" is for the couple to be evenly matched, to produce children who will inherit the talents of the two families.. ie. artistic or musical families, families talented in law, medicine, farming, whatever. Also LUST is not involved, so there would more stability in the relationship... and the children benefit from this, having two parents joined in a mutual agreement for the benefit of the FAMILY.... not their own particular yen for that season. RE: memories

Hey Digitalmystic, if DA MAN he says he wants to be under Politics ... then he must want our best political memories....?!

So here goes.... he asked for it.....!

In the little village I lived in in South Africa, we had this realy irritating Town Board that ran the show, and no-one seemed to know what to do about them.... they were ingrained, they only tarred the roads in front of their own homes, and kept increasing the rates and taxes, and seemed to vote themselves back into office all the time... the locals had lost heart and never showed up for the elections anyway.

So one day, near election time, me and some keen friends decided to change things... and we started a political campaign "A'La American style"! We found some good leader types to stand for election, posted home-made banners all over the place, came up with slogans, canvassed people at the local shopping centres.... and on the day of the elections .. had food stalls going outside the voting offices, donating hot-dogs and Cokes (sponsored by the local shops)to the hungry hoards waiting in queus to vote!

Our group of aspiring Politicians won those elections! .... but the rewards were'nt sweet... the new bunch just became New Politicians... and slowly sank to the same level. But the experience we had with that election was an eye opener, that if one wants to change something... it is possible. You just need LOTS OF STAMINA, and to KEEP TRYING, if at first you dont succeed.

RE: real love-Is it a long journey?

smitten You such a young guy, for such a dramatic question! I been, what I thought was, "in love"... and then found out later that I was not.....Now I also ask that question...and I can tell you, at my age.. I still looking for it. When I check out an old couple who've been married for over 40yrs I am gob-smacked at how they managed it! Sometimes I think it must be me, and sometimes I reckon I just not found the right person.... YET! And then I think to myself... Hey, wake up, life is moving too fast, just now I dead and gone, and aint found it yet! But then again sometimes I think I'm just one of those people who havent grown up yet/
Some people say its not love, just perseverance, and the ability to not get bored....? Who realy knows? Being on the same wave-length? I've thought we were on the same wave-length, and then discovered that he's tuned into another channel somewhere along the line.
So, yeah, maybe it is a life-long process of the human life. Good luck in your search.head banger dancing

RE: American survey.

rolling on the floor laughing Oh you got some good ideas huh Freeze!!!

Yes, I remember, from my dancing days, whenever we went to a social dance, and some guy had his partner in an impossible clinch, and was doing the most ridiculous twirly-wirlies, with back-ward,forward, dosi-does, pirouetting with his head down somewhere near his knees, and his arms just about garotting his partner..... the trained dancers would comment "Imagine what he's like in bed!" The description of some performances were "The Mating Dance of the Praying Mantis"... but despite this, these performances were greatly admired, for their sheer dexterity, and the ability of his partner to actually follow what he was trying to do, without landing flat on her back on the floor. dancing dancing
