RE: Best Pie in the World

Ah-Ha, professor

On His Head:
A man (from your favorite country) walks into a bar with an apple pie on his head.
The barman asks, "Why are you wearing an apple pie on your head?"
The man replies, "It's a family tradition. We always wear apple pies on our heads on Tuesday."
The barman remarks, "But it's Wednesday."
Sheepishly, the man says, "Man, I must look like a real fool."

I visit CS several times throughout the day. I usually easily get bored with it unless there's some appealing humor being shared, political discontent, or a good fight going on in the forums. uh oh I'm usually just a spectator.

RE: Who is your favorite Irish person?

For over a century scholars believed native North Americans were from Siberia. More recently DNA studies indicate they are from Altai. Others say Southeast Asians were here before them. Still, others believe Europeans were here first, 30,000 years ago.

RE: Who is your favorite Irish person?

hahaha read the OP. I am at home. Thank you. wave

RE: Who is your favorite Irish person?

You can speak condescending to me as much as you like. I was just trying to explain how others acknowledge nationality.

Goodnight wave

RE: Who is your favorite Irish person?

uh oh What is so difficult to understand about nationality?

"Generally, nationality is established at birth by a child's place of birth (jus soli) and/or bloodline (jus sanguinis)<- reason for the example I gave earlier of my own nationality status, which includes both U.S.A. and Italy.

Nationality may also be acquired later in life through naturalisation. Corporations and other legal persons also have a nationality, generally in the state under whose laws the legal person was formed."

You obviously don't recognize 'jus sanguinis' as legally recognized by various countries in establishing nationality.

If an Irish mother becomes pregnant by her Irish spouse while in Australia and gives birth to this child later while in Antarctica, what nationality is their newborn Child?

RE: What percent do you put in a relationshiip? What if your the only one putting effort in?

Putting ‘your all’ into a relationship can be similar to playing baseball. uh oh

I’m not sure what your idea of ‘giving it your all’ is but your friends present situation sounds a bit like unrequited love to me. Regardless, and in my opinion, giving our all doesn't mean we have to give up ourselves.

Instead, ‘giving it your all,’ for me, means to respect and reciprocate shared interests and commitments. It doesn’t mean always present, but definitely being available. it is stability, and similar to making a sacrifice fly in baseball.

RE: Everyone is in Debt !!

Yes, and I also noticed the stock market lost about 500 points right after Obama told Putin that the U.S.A. wouldn't get involved when Russia militarized Ukraine. It recovered somewhat before the end of the business day though.

cheers

RE: Everyone is in Debt !!

I see your point. I also don't like the way in which some physical metal values, today, are tied to stocks of metal mining valuations and projections.

It seems odd at times when I pick up one of my 1964 Washington quarters and think about its present day value being almost 16 times greater than what it originally was fifty-years ago.

RE: Everyone is in Debt !!

Dear Mr. Bogart,

Regarding debt: My loving maternal grandmother always preached to me that, "you have nothing, if you don't have debt."

Regarding Paper money: metals are not the panacea for all situations. Their values are manipulated every day.

Now, "Gold and silver are not panaceas. Gold and silver coins have issues of their own, and the evils of paper money were outweighed by the evils of manipulation of purity and weights, not to mention convenience. By the Civil War, "greenbacks" were issued by the government and used in all manner of commerce. Not everyone liked this, and legal conflict ensued. The Supreme Court eventually had to rule on the question. In Knox v Lee, 79 U.S. 457 (1871), the Court ruled that paper money was not unconstitutional: "The Constitution nowhere declares that nothing shall be money unless made of metal." The Court argued that the Congress can manipulate the value of precious metals to the point where it can be rendered as inherently worthless as paper (the Congress could enact a law that says that 10-dollar silver coins weigh 400 grains in one year and 500 grains the next, effectively devaluing the silver). The Court even noted the arguments of the Framers against "emitting bills," but wrote that the Framers, one, could not anticipate all governmental needs, and, two, allowed the Congress to do what was necessary and proper to carry out its powers. In this case, that includes printing paper money."

So, "So, said the Court, even though paper money is not expressly permitted by the Constitution, it is also not expressly forbidden, and in spite of the extra-constitutional opinions of some of the Framers, the ability to print paper money is a necessary and proper power of the federal government."
