Why online dating is such a hard game?

Let's look back in time.
What was before online dating. Newspaper personal ads, friends/family arranged blind dates, social events, bars, libraries, literally everywhere where people were.
It was very slow. It was usually down to luck. It was very limited in choices. (Usually in a limited geographic location).
Why was it good? It was natural. People met because they were at the same place. They started to talk because probably had some similar interest.
When people chose or accepted the partner they went for the "good enough" option. It was enough if it was slightly better than others. The brain is happy to do a task like this.
These days the Internet gives the false impression of unlimited choice.
Do a search. Not enough results? No problem. Widen your options and voila now you can scroll 30 pages.
And makes you believe it is down to how you choose.
Barry Schwartz wrote a book called "The Paradox of Choice". He says too much choice will be detrimental.
There are couple of problems inside:
1. Because there are so many options you believe there must be a perfect one. This means the weight of your decision is much bigger.
2. When you choose one and it's not flawless you believe other choice would have been better. Which means you will never be satisfied with the choice.
3. Choosing from a big selection is exhausting. Our brain is not made for this.
4. Big number of players mean big competition. It's very easy to feel you are the only one left alone.
5. Anonymity changes the behaviours for lot of people. They would never say things or act the similar way face-to-face as they do online.
You can find many more points if you think.

Solution: I don't know. I believe it's still a very slow game. You have to accept it you either go for just a good enough or wait much much longer. Same as it was before. The difference is you have to cancel all the noise.
Also I don't believe the marriage is about how you choose at the beginning. It's about how much work the partners put in. The marriage is a workshop. (Yes, I know the classic: Men work, women shop...)
But no one can see in years ahead. what works at the beginning might not work in 5 years time. People also change.
The biggest issue is not how you choose but people didn't learn to work on problems. It's better to look out for new partner if there is a problem.... See, how many potential options out there? Just look around on dating sites.....

Why Do We Keep Feeding the Merchants of Death?

According to mainstream media, the Ukraine war is going well and Russia will be solidly defeated. We just need to give Ukraine the means they need to prevail. However, based on an enormous leak of secret documents, that’s false information
The documents reveal political leaders are lying about the state of Ukraine’s war effort and its potential for winning against Russia. It appears the two adversaries have reached a stalemate that neither side can break. As a result, the war is likely to become a protracted one
Documents also reveal NATO countries, including the U.K. and U.S., have sent 97 special forces to Ukraine. This is in addition to the CIA personnel, military trainers and Pentagon contractors sent previously, and the 20,000 troops from the 82nd and 101st Airborne Brigades already deployed to the border of Poland and Ukraine
In mid-April 2023, Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz introduced a Privileged Resolution of Inquiry to force President Biden to disclose the number of U.S. military personnel in Ukraine and the full extent of the administration’s plans to assist Ukraine militarily
U.S. intelligence agencies are also reportedly confused about Biden’s plan. According to investigative journalist Seymour Hersh, U.S. intelligence sources claim a “total breakdown of trust” between the White House and elements of the U.S. intelligence community, as the administration continues to lie and withhold information about its plans. Sources also warn there’s “zero” leadership within the current administration

According to mainstream media, the Ukraine war is going well and Russia will be solidly defeated. We just have to give Ukraine the means they need to prevail. However, as reported by Medea Benjamin and Nicolas Davies in an April 24, 2023, article in Salon magazine,1 based on an “enormous leak of secret documents,” “that now looks like disinformation.” Who is surprised?

“President Biden dismissed the leaks as revealing nothing of ‘great consequence,’” Benjamin and Davies write.

“What these documents reveal, however, is that the war is going worse for Ukraine than our political leaders have admitted to us, while going badly for Russia too, so that neither side is likely to break the stalemate this year and this will likely lead to ‘a protracted war beyond 2023,’ as one of the documents says.

Another leaked document also reveals NATO countries, including the U.K. and U.S., have sent 97 special forces to Ukraine. This is in addition to the CIA personnel, military trainers and Pentagon contractors sent previously, and the 20,000 troops from the 82nd and 101st Airborne Brigades already deployed to the border of Poland and Ukraine.

When will this madness end?

Locks in the forums...

I see several long-time forum threads have been locked/archived because they are too long and creating problems with the website operation.
It's interesting to know they are locked because of length and not for content.

On another site I visit, all the blogs have been archived.
They opened a new site that appears to be dedicated for blogging.
All the individual sites they own had been separate, blogging is now under one umbrella.

I'm finding there are easily 50 new bloggers and no familiar faces.

Current trade ins at car lots.

I see the new trades will be homes. When a new truck starts at 36K but, no dealer has them under 80K and some are running $110,000, the only way the average person can buy is to trade in their house! Or if not, be sure to buy a SUV/van because they will end up living in it!doh
I don't care how much houses are these days. I know in some areas and states..you can STILL buy a small house for 50K or there abouts.
The house may be a fixer upper. But the vehicle is a loss from the moment you sign that title. I always said never buy a car newer than five years old. By then the re-calls are mostly seen. The major depreciation is off, like driving it off the lot. And the lemons are lunched out and engines blown up.
Car-vanna is flooded with re-pos that they ask new price for and can't dump. Dealers are calling people begging for them to buy and trade in because the market is best on used.
Electric is shoved down peoples throats even tho the grid can't handle them and there are few charging stations. Add the cost of electricity rising. For a real view, call an EV owner in the Gaza strip and ask how charging is going for them. One glitch and they are done.frustrated help

Street food rules!

I went to a street food market in Copenhagen earlier today, and it was insane just how much different food were on offer. Everything from Afghani to Greek food. I went with a pulled pork burger, that had pork crackling in it. Oh my, what an experience!

The succulent pulled pork combined with the pork crackling gave it a very satisfying crunch! I am definitely incorporating that into my cooking! I also went there last week, and I got a pizza. Sadly, it was so salty that it gave me an upset stomach, so I am avoiding that if I ever go there again.

Tomorrow, it's off to more street food, this time it's in something called Banegaarden, which translates to The Railway Yard. One of the outlets is called PMY. They serve Latin American soulfood from Peru, Mexico & Venezuela, and that sounds like something I HAVE to try!

Fox Entertainment Might Be Banned In Canada

Due to Tucker Carlson and his over the top rants that are considered homophobic, misogynistic and racist...the powers that be are considering banning Fox programs based on false information and spreading hate propaganda...

Is freedom of speech being threatened or do you think that this is a necessary means of setting news standards for broadcasting companies?...

The police officer got out of his car as the kid who was stopped for speeding rolled down his window

'I've been waiting for you all day,' the officer said.
The kid replied, Yeah, well I got here as fast as I could.'
When the cop finally stopped laughing, he sent the kid on his way without a ticket.teddybear

The new Untied States of illegal immigants.

What happens when a third world country empties into a developed nation? It turns into a third world country too.
New York city has a flood of migrants. Of course, no where near as many as the border states deal with every day. As a sanctuary city, they bragged how come one come all. Now its uh, come one..no more?
There are hotels that got taken by the city to house the illegals. One in note, was a five star with rooms averaging $500 A NIGHT. Now it is stuffed with about 5000 migrants. And many of them are young men. While homeless vets and others live on the street with minimal help, hotels like this one offer 3 meals a day, plus snacks. Housekeeping. Laundry. Bus passes. In other words, free room and board paid for by taxpayers struggling to meet the needs of their families.
There are no limits stated as to the length people may stay. There fore they believe its a free ride indefinitely. Now asked if they wish to move on to a location they came for, they say, nah..good here.
They mingle on the streets. Shoplift booze. Smuggle the bottles under babies and in kids back pack where they aren't checked. And spend their time getting blotto. Children drink too. The rooms are pig styes. House keeping cleans in the morning and its trashed by nightfall.
Stores around instead of making money off tourists are trying to keep afloat and not get mugged or robbed or shoplifted.
Maintenance is failing to keep up and the hotel is in danger of collapse or failure of systems. Men roam the halls with machetes, guns and brawl, abuse women and get drunk.
By the time things change, the only hope for the hotel(s) will be to bulldoze and start over.
If at some point, the migrants are told to move on, they will rebel and riot like they are used in their home countries.
When you take in wild animals, don't be surprised when you get rabies. frustrated very mad

My wife said to me "look at our new neighbors. See the way he holds her, the way he kisses her. How come you don't do that?"

I said "because I don't know her well enough".

Was the regime change in 2014 a coup?

Elon Musk calls 2014 Ukraine regime change a ‘coup’
© AFP / Justin Sullivan
Twitter CEO Elon Musk polarized his followers with a tweet declaring there was “no question” that the 2014 change of government in Ukraine was a “coup.” On Saturday, the billionaire tweeted that while “the election” – presumably referring to the 2010 vote that elected Viktor Yanukovych president – was “arguably dodgy,” what followed “was indeed a coup.”

No doubt in my mind either.
