House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Tuesday announced an impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump, amid a growing drumbeat of criticism following reports that Trump pressed Ukraine’s president to investigate Joe Biden and his son.
“The president must be held accountable. No one is above the law,” said Pelosi, a California Democrat.
Speaking on Capitol Hill, Pelosi said “the actions of the Trump presidency revealed the dishonorable fact of the president’s betrayal of his oath of office, betrayal of our national security and betrayal of the integrity of our elections.”
Earlier Tuesday, Trump said on Twitter he approved a Wednesday release of a transcript of the July call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. However, Democrats are seeking the details of a whistleblower complaint that deals with the Zelensky call. Pelosi demanded it be turned over to Congress by the acting director of national intelligence.
“He will have to choose whether to break the law or honor his responsibility to the Constitution,” Pelosi said about acting DNI Joseph McGuire.
Trump blasted the impeachment move in a tweet moments after Pelosi finished speaking, saying “So bad for our Country!”
Speaking in New York at the United Nations Trump told reporters he withheld aid to Ukraine, but that the move wasn’t used as leverage.
“There was no quid pro quo,” Trump said. “There was no pressure applied, nothing.”
Pelosi has previously been reluctant to back impeachment, saying she preferred for Trump to be defeated in the 2020 election. She said she is directing the House committees already probing Trump to continue doing so under the “umbrella of impeachment inquiry.”
Even if Trump were impeached by the House, a trial could be held in the Senate. With the Senate in Republican control, a case could be dismissed immediately.
More than half of the House’s 235 Democrats support an impeachment investigation. However, that isn’t enough for impeachment, which requires a simple majority of the entire House.
U.S. stocks DJIA, -0.53% closed lower on Tuesday, amid reports that Pelosi would announce the impeachment inquiry.

This is way overdue. Congress should have done the right thing (impeachment inquiry) long ago.

The main part of the blog is a news item from Market Watch.
Admittedly, it does contain some hateful comments by Trump (i.e. "witch hunt")
Otherwise, there are no hateful comments.
Speaker Nancy Pelosi said the House is opening a formal impeachment inquiry of President Donald Trump, saying he’s violated his oath of office and obligations under the Constitution.
“The president must be held accountable. No one is above the law,” Pelosi said at a news conference Tuesday after a closed-door meeting with her party.
She said that six separate committees will be reporting to her on their findings related to Trump’s actions while in office under the umbrella of a formal inquiry.
I'm going there tomorrow. Do you want me to get one for you?
Looks like the saying is true.
WINNING!!!!!!!!
However, releasing evidence against already elected government employees upon request of the US government is not illegal.
Impeaching Trump to allow the demonrats in will destroy the country. Their policies that every one blames others for, cause nothing but destruction.
We have the right person for the job in there right now. We can't afford the demonrat hordes any more.
The whistle-blower as others should be jailed, can't have one rule for some and not others
It would appear that way as far as his supporters are concerned. Does that mean his should be ignored?
C, thanks. Any real crimes should never lie below or above the law. And if he ever commits any, so be it.
The point is, Trump has committed crimes. Don't turn a blind eye to this, as other Republicans have. Just because the Democrats in Congress, previously chose not to go forward in the impeachment process, has little to do with the fact that Trump has committed crimes. There is plenty of evidence for this in the Mueller report alone. Pelosi has been fighting not to impeach Trump for political reasons, which is the wrong reasons. Finally, it looks like Congress is moving forward in that impeachment process. And as the evidence accumulates, they will have greater reason to continue moving into charges. Whether the Senate convicts Trump, or not, will have a lot more to do with integrity, or lack of integrity, rather than the overwhelming amount of evidence at their disposal. While integrity is of little importance to Trump supporters, it is important to the majority of Americans. Thus, the longevity of the jobs of the Senators may be at stake for them. Whether Trump is thrown out of office or not, he will be indicted for his crimes once he leaves office.
Trump has broken US law several times. It seems the Democrats have took the
attitude of - you crossed the line, despite any political consequences, no one
should be above the law.
Time to start removing the demonrats from their places because they have no clue on how to honorably, honestly, and properly use any type of power.
Only the demonrats and obozo regime. The real treasonous people deserving of military execution.
