Opening Your Eyes

I'm going to guess that many people do not like to open their eyes upon first awakening in the mornings, especially night owls.

I only have one memory as a kid of my Dad wakening me when I was probably 5thish grade. He must have said time for school so get up and I resisted so he pulled the sheet off me real quick, funny but that is all I remember from any awakening in a morning. I can't remember if stipping a sheet off me made me mad? was I nude? did it set my waking moods for life? Only one memory as a kid of waking up or being woke up, just that one morning but I don't remember how it made me feel. Curious.

Do thoughts come flooding through your mind as your eyes open or does a blank foggy empty brain take charge first thing in the morning? Rhetorical.

I try to start my day as excited as the little dog does to go pee first thing. She can hold her bladder the whole night while I wake up a couple of times to acknowledge mine.

Music helps set the mood for how I want the day to unfold. Today I'm starting off with some Jazz and gratitude. The weather is beyond gorgeous, went out barefoot and in a sleeveless dress this morning, gorgeous outside. I can't imagine someone somewhere shivering. Gratitude.

Be kind and enjoy your day peeps. Virtual

Well, UF, of course you are correct. There are many reasons for this, and I think these evolve as we age from the slumber years of adolescence, to melatonin deficits of adulthood. But since having adopted big dogs for decades, and done my share of spoiling/enabling/codependency---I no longer have trouble being awaken quite early, even though I've been fortunate enough to have strategically avoided any more women for all night bed partners. It's not easy to remain, even in the deepest of delightful dreams, or indeed useful nightmares, asleep, with huge paws on the chest, and a big wet nose in the face. All one has to do is to adjust the timing of the pre bed walk. For more sleep, make it closer to midnight. Who needs an alarm clock?
I suppose it depends what wakes me - the alarm clock or simply running out of sleep (which I do on Sundays and it is always a treat) and maybe also how I slept. If it was one of those occasional nights where I was still grumpily awake at 4 in the morning and finally dropped off I want to smash the alarm clock laugh

The alarm clock at an unexpected time, now that's always exciting because there's always a reason hup hup hup hit the shower boil the kettle let's go go go!

If it is the cat yowling the eyes are fully open as I leap up and search for shoes to throw.

Most of the time it's a non-event. Back in my days of getting up at a horrible time to go to work I had a clock radio set to a classical music radio, it seemed the easiest way to let the morning happen, but now I only need to wake at 9 and often wake before the alarm anyway.

Of course in winter I'll snuggle until my bladder says that's it, up we get. The bedroom is dark so eyes open, eyes shut, not much difference...
I suppose the unexpected shock of having the sheet yanked off of you, was what made that event so memorable.

When I first wake up, it depends upon the circumstances. Questions rapidly move within my mind. What time is it ? Do I need to do anything early ? What do I have to do first. What steps are needed in what order ? What things did I want to accomplish today ? etc..
I have the radio set to go off before the alarm clock. It is a kinder wake.
Like Multi, I used to wake to classical music but then they changed the DJ to one I didn't like mumbling
I am not a morning crank, but I do like a cup of tea first thing coffee

Hi Molly.

What plans are there for 20/20
It'll be a good one thumbs up
2020 even sounds good so I am sure it will be great.
Plus leap year have you planned to propose to someone?
Thanks everyone, I loved the responses but since I'm checking in so late I'm too tired to think. I will try to remember to revisit tomorrow.

Thanks again.
He made it right and refunded me and will come get the TV at his convenience. Had the TV worked right that would have been a great buy but alas it was not meant to be. A sale will fall in my lap after Xmas.

Lunch was good food and laughter.
My rules for sleeping and waking are pretty simple. I sleep when I'm tired. I wake up when....

sleep
Well played.
