Toilet paper update...

I made it to Walmart this morning 10 minutes after opening to do (what I consider) weekly shopping. Since this area is on a stay-home order, I got a few extra items to minimize my trips out... important things and not 4 bottles of Coke like the last trip!

Expecting the panic buying to be over... I was wrong.
Displays of fruits, vegetables, milk, eggs all looked like normal. This time there were a limited selection of meats, better than the last visit.

It was the paper products aisle that was empty.
I did see one woman with a package of toilet paper so there must have been some stock that got scooped up in 15 minutes of the store opening!

Worth checking back before you leave, next time - my supermarket, last time I looked, was putting out 4 dozen-packs at a time, but constantly replenishing that minimum amount, to avoid hysterical showdowns with those who seize everything in sight.

They also had smaller 4-roll-packs on promotion at end-of-aisle at a price designed for the impatient (and very rich)
Heard people removing it of the truck when it arrives at the store.
Costco customers line up at 3 am. Costco allows 1 toilet paper, 1 milk ,1 of bread
Worse situation than world war 2
Except, in world war 2 there was actual need, not just people hoarding to feel superior. You can't tell me people started wiping their bums that much more.
Viv, thankfully, I buy mega-roll packs of toilet paper that lasts 6-8 weeks.
This is normal for me and hoarding isn't required.

Jenny, thoughts of customers waiting at 3am is frightening.
I know my local Walmart normally restocks with a night crew at 10pm.
Now with limited hours that may change to after the store closes.
They would bring everything out on pallets with shrink wrap and lately customers break the wrapping, pull open boxes to get to products.
It's too much for the employees to control.
chatillion ,the news paper told that people thought they would be first at 3 am, to their amazement the line was 20 people long. Mass hysteria...............
One woman told that she really didn't need t.p. but when she saw others ..................next
As I mentioned before, I normally buy toilet paper in bulk, when it goes on sale at a grocery store here in NJ. My next door neighbor does a similar thing. I found this out, when it was brought up by my neighbors across the street. They were running out.

Two days ago I was in a store and 1/2 joked to the manager, "will you ever have toilet paper again ?". To my surprise, she stated, "can you be here at 8 am tomorrow". Thinking of my neighbors across the street, I retorted; "Yes, I can." So, the next morning I got there exactly when they unlocked the door and was the first person in the store (although there were several people waiting in their vehicles, while I walked, and timed it perfectly).

I saw the manager and reminded her of our conversation (there was no toilet paper on the shelves) from the day before. So, she went to the loading dock area and walked back out with 1 case of toilet paper. Thus, I bought four 4-packs (the store limit), thanked her, and walked back to my street with the Bounty (pun intended) and knocked on my neighbor's door and gave it to them. They thanked me "very much" and started to get money to pay for it and I said, "It's my treat for being such good neighbors". This morning they knocked on my door and surprised me a carrot cake. wow dancing Are they good neighbors, or what ?!
I told my son to start watching for it. We still are good for a couple of weeks but who knows how long it will take to find some. They went and picked up a few groceries today. For some reason, fresh produce seems to be an
issue. Spotty on a lot of things. They did find lemons for me that they couldn't find a few days ago. I promised the girls we'll make a lemon pound cake next week. So, we're just winging it like everyone else.
5-1-2020 update
7:30am Walmart had about 20 four-packs of name brand toiled paper.
That's it. The other shelves remained empty.
Fortunately I have quite a few deciduous trees in my yard.

Even better 3 fig trees.

TP ain't the only game in town. wink
Geographically, you should be using rice paper !!

laugh
I wonder why they are still so low. My son brought home a whopping 27 roll pack from Target yesterday. He said the only thing he couldn't find was hand sanitizer. He did also bring home some Clorox wipes. Food wise, I believe we are almost back to normal although there aren't too many things on "sale" yet. I will say one of Chicago's favorite tortilla makers is closed for another week. They closed down last week when they found out that one of their employees died because of the virus and two others were also diagnosed with it as well. They said they were closing for 2 weeks for a deep cleaning and sanitizing. It was nice because although our local stores, as well as WalMart and Target, usually carry boxes and boxes of these tortillas, if you couldn't find them you could go right to the source and buy them there. Hopefully they will re-open as scheduled.
