The 'Craziest' Idea yet to Fight the Virus

Today in The New Yorker;

I've watched a lot of both Governor Murphy & Governor Cuomo's daily briefings. They've both done an effective job. However, Cuomo takes more time to explain, consider and essentially embrace & refute alternatives. I feel he resonates better with the public, explaining why he carefully considers and chooses methods. While he got little support in campaigning, honestly, he is very presidential in his leadership, and something this country has sorely missed since Obama left office.

Great satire. Thanks for the post.
Yeah, I think you need to start over. Find different people to run for president.

Alternatively, everybody votes in the next election, but deliberately spoils their ballot paper.

Refuse to take part until you can make sensible, realistic choice.

I think we probably need to do that too, but being far less powerful, we have less of an impact upon the rest of the world.
I'm glad you enjoyed it Chat. I agree. It does highlight some cutting irony.
J - Unfortunately, it's not realistic. The number #1 priority is a change in president, even if the other choice is not ideal, it will still be much better, than the current one. That resultant president could be replaced by that person's vice president, if he is eventually later proven to be unfit (i.e. progressive dementia, or heart problems, etc..). Four years from this November, there will be another election and perhaps another step up. No matter who else is elected it is going to take decades to repair a lot of the damage that the current president has done. Of course, no one can replace the lives lost due to his ineptness during the current crisis.
I have a sinking feeling you're not going to make a step up whichever way you vote under the current circumstances.

I have a sinking feeling you'll try to hold onto Biden and put him in the White House under the impression than he might be marginally better than Trump.
Biden would not be marginally better. He would be a LOT better.
Trump is officially the WORST president in US history and that was decided BEFORE the impeachment.
What he has done since LOWERS his performance. He's still the worst.
But, someone else would have to do a lot more bad, than his originally worse scores to challenge him
for being the worst. Biden while certainly not ideal, would still make a top 1/2 of the bunch president.
Would Biden make the top 10 presidents of all time ? Probably not. Bernie Sanders had a shot at that. He would have initiated real good changes.
Unfortunately, Bernie will be too old to successfully run in 4 years. If his 2 opponents were not also quote old, perhaps he would have been too old to run successfully this time.
quite old........not "quote old" laugh
Jim - the way I see if the Conservative Wrongs can spin off fantasies galore, why can't Liberal Thinkers do the same. laugh laugh As a story writer I am good at cranking out short essay satire like this. I just don't feel the need to create for this crowd. How you keep at it day after day amazes me. And that is not satire.
By the By - your "quote old" typo, has an interesting ring to it - kind of like "I will see it when I believe it" misquote.
Honestly, I think it had more to do with muscle memory. I type the word quote on here a lot.
I was probably thinking ahead and my fingers just finished the word after I typed q while my mind wandered ahead a bit.
Nice read.

Biden/Cuomo for president. confused
b - I started watching the video (thanks for posting it), but noticed it's more than 2 hours.
Thus, I will listen to it tomorrow morning, while doing some other stuff.

There's never a reason to make up stuff. However, this president and his chums
are so bad, it's astonishing.

L - I like that suggestion. thumbs up thumbs up
Cuomo for Prez '20?

It doesn't seem likely.
BUT ... Never say Never dunno

The problem with a Biden-Cuomo ticket is that BIDEN would be running for PRESIDENT.
Veeps can Balance a National Ticket, but folks vote for the Prez -- Not the Veep.

Also --
Joe's exhibiting symptoms of dementia.
It's cringe-worthy to ponder what could happen during a 2 hour Mano e Mano debate with The Don ...

@ JimNastics

Yeah, it's two hours long because that's how long it takes when Trump's rambling, lying and carrying on. Trump is such a liar they do a live fact check every day now..

Sorry to say, I think Cuomo is smart enough to know he has his hands full just dealing with New York. If they switch anyone in as an October surprise, might as well only spend six weeks on an election campaign like other developed countries. Get back to the real work of running the country instead of continuously running for reelection..

Cut & Paste isn't difficult. It's actually remarkably simple ... roll eyes

Whatever.

I'm Still of the opinion that a Major Party that runs a senile candidate for Prez has little chance of winning.

BTW --
That six panel meme thingy is quite accurate ... laugh

Jac, the US is between a rock and a hard place on this one. Both candidates have been accused of having a cavalier attitude and let's face it many CS Americans, including females, saw no problem whatsoever in their man being handsy. I don't think it is an issue there to the same degree. Boys will be boys and all that?

BTW Jim, talking of crazy ideas to fight the virus, you'd better explain to the WHO your professional opinion that they are wasting their time testing BCG. Can you believe it, clinical trials have started. They really should have checked with you first.
Incidentally and for what it's worth, I've also been impressed by what I've seen of Cuomo.
With the election of Trump and the Trump "so-called" presidency, we already have.
That ship has sailed.

The American people have overwhelmingly made Biden the other candidate. We have to play the cards that have been dealt. That's the way the imperfect US system works. As I already said,
it will take a very long time to repair the damage Trump has caused. Apparently, they are so sick of Trump, that they prefer the comfort of Old Joe, over the agent of change for the better, Bernie. In my opinion Bernie was the best choice for both elections. But, it is not going to happen. The primaries decide the candidates, not logic. If logic had anything to do with it, Trump would be no one's candidate.

Interesting blog concept.
If one had a single opportunity to go back & change a moment in TIME, it'd be ______

IF ... Time Travel has been achieved at some time in the future, I Strongly suspect I know the moment that's been changed. And WHY.

For the record --
It's nothing to do with The Don -- It's before he was born.

miclee = The nicety of Time Travel is by eliminating the grandfather eliminate the grandson. As a time traveler you need to think in four dimensions. But then that is beyond your scope, isn't it?

Try this, miclee - The Hokey Pokey is a dance appropriate to these days of changing Trump story lines.

jac_the_gripper - it is sad commentary on our political times that we must choose the Lesser of Two Bad Choices. I can't say as I am happy with Biden - BUT Trump is a terrible choice.
You also have a history of standing up to government which does not have your best interests at heart and government which advocates, supports and relies upon oppression.

You do not have to make this choice of two unacceptable options.

You can make a stand against inappropriate and oppressive government.

Or are women not really people, but property?
Yes, I do.

I can do that also. Indeed, I have been doing so.
These 2 are not mutually exclusive.
One is easily solved with a vote. The other requires a much longer effort, as it will take much more change.
One of the two candidates will be elected, no matter what I do. That's reality. This country may not survive another 4 years of Trump's damage to it and it's people.
Jim, you have called for action to be taken against Trump based upon media information for years.

Your are unable to support Trump because of what you see in the media. You constantly, daily, post issues relating to Trump's inadequacies and criminal behaviour.

But your principals go out of the window when it comes to Biden because he opposes Trump.

The opposite applies to you, Mic. All of a sudden you have principals and a concept of cognitive aptitude.
jac_the_gripper -
Issue one - I believe and support woman's rights - my grandmother was a suffragette who ran a business in the background thru my grandfather and helped push thru the 19th amendment and my mother fought for civil rights. I think what the GOP is now doing to suppress Women's and Civil rights both is appalling.

Issue two - Unlike Britain, the US forefathers did not choose to go with a Parliamentary form of government.
Having twice now witnessed questionable presidency outcomes - Bush 2 and Trump, I find myself wondering itf the forefathers could have done better - maybe go with a Parliamentary system. Too late now.
j - How will the world view America, if Trump is not only elected, but re-elected despite his horrendous "so-called" presidency ?
Regardless, there is much more at stake, than how the world views the USA.
There are literally lives at stake. There is literally the survival of the country at stake.
Jac, are you suggesting Trump is the better bet for woman's rights than Biden? I am trying to understand your take on the 2020 US election. The US is currently stuck with a binary choice. Third parties don't last long enough in this environment to gain enough support for a presidential run. As it is the presidency is fast become a domain only billionaires can afford.
Jim - not just the US, but the world given this Covid plague is dragging the world market place into a very deep recession, possibly a depression. The last thing we need is more Trump isolationism.
You need to get rid of both Trump and Biden.

It is completely unacceptable that either of them should be your president.

It's completely unacceptable that you, as a nation, should ignore the allegations against Biden simply because you think he's a bit less inappropriate than Trump.
Jac - I would love to have someone like Gov Cuomo of New York, but that is one those IF Wishes were Fishes kind of thing. The reality of the moment is Trump or Biden. For me Trump's disdain for constitutional law is unacceptable.
Allegations against Biden have been thoroughly investigated and he was actually doing his job, and what he did was in the best interests of the US and Europe. Trump simply muddied the water with his accusations to hobble Biden politically. Biden is WAY more trustworthy than Trump and much more presentable. After Trump, I would be very disinclined to ever vote for another person from NY City again--but I do like Cuomo--and I would vote for him.

That said, I have met and taken the time to get to know a very nice man who happens to be a Trump supporter. From speaking with him, I have discerned the problem causing the polarization of our country, and it is Trump's hate rhetoric and Fox New's lies. Fox News needs to be sued into the dirt and so do the Murdochs. They are lying to their viewers, all the time, and they are causing massive despair.very mad Hannity should be in jail, and Tucker is an a**.
Does your constitutional law include something about all men being equal?

Doesn't the constitution start with a preamble which includes the goal of establishing justice and promoting general welfare?

Wouldn't the allegations suggest he has used his position and status to disempower women, he has ignored that which is just and has put his own self-interest before the welfare of others?

Why is Biden's apparent disdain for constitutional law acceptable, but Trump's is not?
Did you think I was having a jab at the 'all men are born equal' thing?

If you did, I had assumed that 'all men' had been updated to 'all people', at least in people's minds and for legal purposes.

I get that no one would want to change the linguistic artistry of the original. I haven't got issue with that.

I have issue with it not being applied universally because that really does alter the whole 'all' and 'equal' thing.
No ma'am - you are the one saying all that. I am merely stating historical facts. The US history is far from pretty and there are a host of wrongs and injustices in need of repair. And in truth a goodly part US law is based British precedent. But the US constitution is a foundational document upon we depend. To have a sitting president who denies and defies the US constitutional law is a president we do not need sitting the oval office chair.

Frankly I do not care for Biden - but at least he abides by the law. Which is more than I can for Trump.

I am done talking here on this topic. The floor is all yours.
Whoa!

Biden abides by the law...?

And don't come back at me with 'innocent until proven guilty', because Biden supporters aren't applying that principle to Trump.
