Imminent extreme alert...

At 4:45 this morning, several phones in my house sounded an alarm. I got up to read the message:
Imminent extreme alert
TEST - This is a TEST of the Emergency Alert System.
No action is required.

Little do they know, some action is required. That message could have gone to a few hundred thousand cellphone users and someone should be responsible for their actions.
I equate that to yelling FIRE! in a movie theater and then saying "Only kidding."

As a kid, we had Civil Defense sirens located around the city, usually on top of schools or government buildings, designed to be used in the event of extreme emergency... like Russia sending off some nuclear missiles from Cuba that's only 90 miles away!

You could set your clocks by it as they sounded on the first and third Saturday exactly at 1pm and run for about 3 minutes. Yes, testing at 1pm.

I'd certainly like to know what genius scheduled emergency tests at 4am.

Whoever it was, it was a local event. It was not the US Homeland Security Alert system being tested.
Probably the Florida equivalent since you claim to be in Florida. If you wish to get even by voting for Trump instead Desanis you may join the other 11 people doing so.

When I was a kid growing up in NYC the air raid sirens sounded every day at exactly noon, or so they thought. Actually sometimes it was a minute late in the 1950s, In the mid 1950s it was + or = 3 seconds. Eventually they tied it to the Bureau of Standards Atomic clock and it became more accurate until it was discontinued.
If I remember correctly, the air raid sirens were always on top of buildings with fallout shelters.

I got my answer...
The Florida Division of Emergency Management apologized and took responsibility for the alert in a tweet and stated that it would take "appropriate action to ensure this will never happen again and that only true emergencies are sent as alerts in the middle of the night."

Governor Ron said:
I’ve ordered FL Division of Emergency Management Director Kevin Guthrie to bring swift accountability for the test of the emergency alert system in the wee hours of the morning. This was a completely inappropriate use of this system.

Bus said: Your fault, Ron. I didn’t want to be woke, yet I was.

Lara said: You should resign immediately for waking all of us up at 4:40 in the morning with your emergency broadcast signal, Ron.

Stefanie: Azzhole, you probably gave thousands of elderly people heart attacks, I hope their families sue you
Looking forward to it. Having all the family round and putting on a picky tea.
The buses are rubbish here on a Sunday, but a picky tea sounds like a good idea all the same.

'Spect I'll have to make a couple of things I don't like just for the sake of authenticity, but my neighbour's dog is always running around loose so there'll be no waste.
So it woke you up 15 minutes early. No biggy! Gave you a 15 minute head start on your early morning bloglaugh
