Memories of pets.

Yesterday I sorted out some bags in my room, got rid of quite a bit of rubbish, old, paid bills etc. During the sort out I came across a list I had made in 1998---a list detailing the pets I've had since adulthood. I sat reading that list for a while thinking back to those pets that had passed away, a lot of good memories. There was Sandy, a ginger tom cat whom I took in one 5th November. He had been a stray for a while, my neighbours and myself regularly putting out food for him. His owners had moved house and abandoned him. We had him for 5 months before he became ill and needed treatment. The vet x-rayed him and discovered that at some point during his life as a stray some one had shot him with an air gun. The vet estimated his age at 19 years old. He passed away shortly after that visit. Then there was Snowy1 (there was another Snowy who passed away with cancer last year) who passed away with cancer in 1998, she was another cat who had been abandoned by her owner, we had her for 9 years and Tosca who we got from the local animal shelter who passed away in her sleep, she was 9 years old.
I made another list and was surprised to discover that including the current pets in my life over the past 34 years I have had a total of over 60 pets, this includes some 20 plus tropical fish I now have. All of these pets have enriched the lives of my children and myself so much.

I too have had some memorable pets. 2 of them were which my parents had, passed this year.
I have many memories of the pets I've had throughout my life. And its true pets do enrich our lives....& in their own special ways. grin hug
I paint peoples pets, and it amazing how many animals I paint that have passed away, in relation to ones that are still alive..

Nice to have memories and reminders of them though,
One of the reasons I only do one box or bag a day is that I never know what I'm going to come across and I tend to sit and read old letters and even stuff from my days as a mature student 14 years ago. I even came across an old book from school where the teacher had marked my school work and that book is 39 years old (I left school when I was 15). I tend to hoard stuff and every now and then sort things out. This morning I came across some clothes in good condition, books and cups that are no longer used so they will be going to a charity shop.
Death of a pet (or any friend) brings too much sadness to me. sad flower Pets just don't live long enough. blues
We need pets that live as long as we do. applause
Sweetkitten4, this world would be a much more blissful place with more kindhearted folks like you in it. applause
freckles, I sure hope that's non-toxic paint. laugh
JimNastics, parrots and tortoises, although other than for reproductive purposes I personally wouldn't advocate them as pets since many are scarce. frog
Thanks for nice blog bouquet I think we all have good memories about our pets :)
I had a few pets. German Shepherd - Rodger, he's gone when he was 12, Than black cat - Angela, she's gone when she was 8. Then for couple of months I had yet a jackdaw - Joe, I found him, he was dropped out of the nest, when he had has to learn to fly, he went to his relatives. And now I have lovely cat Bricis, he is 5.
I have had quite a few pets that I loved also. Muttley..half St.Bernard and half Australian shepard....Christy-My beloved...a Japanese Spitz that never left my side, my first dog, Fuzzy, a Scottish TErrier that chased a mother bear away from me when I was only about four or five. Bumper, my Dash for Cash horse that was actually smarter than me. And sweet Maggie May, an old sway back Arabian mare I had found and rescued-she was full of those thistle things in her tail and mane and forelock that took me three days to get out. I have rescued over eight horses, several dogs, and right now I have four rescued cats...one ready to pop with kittesns( which all will be spayed or neutered, thank you) and of course, with me now...for a short while is my bestest dog...MissE the English Bulldog.I have two rescued horses out in the field with my two permanent horses-horses being the most expensive to keep. I have been unemployed for almost a year now-I am going back to work in about a week!!! Yay!!!heart wings
Calliope's Girl bouquet
Congratulations on the job Calliope. We've had cats, birds, turtles, a dog, tropical fish, rats and hamsters. With the rats I used to handle them on a regular basis and they became so tame they'd sit on my lap or shoulder. I only had 2. A former neighbour used to keep more and would always be seen walking around with a rat on her shoulder. Unfortunately my home is too small to keep any rats now especially as we have the cats but some day I would like to get another one or two.
The 2 pets that I was crazy about were a small mongrel named Tiny when I was a kid and a Tom Cat named KC when I had grown up.

These 2 pets supplied me with fond memories because they were such good pals and pets. They were calm and just stood by me whenever I needed a little bit of cheering up.

I don't know. I can't explain what I just said. It's just that they were always there.
