immigration

I will probably be flagged on this but a bold and sincere ideas guys...I know you'll have fun, let us look at the world on this?

JOHN LENNON, IMAGINE, an all too familiar for correctness on this world's take on injustice...do you think he would have radically changed his words or lyrics by now? To suit what is truly happening in the world relative to handling of immigration laws?

Particularly in the US?

FACTS:1. ABOUT 12 million illegal aliens (Newsweek, Oct. 2012) not so sure on the date, although I have a copy, at home)

2. What these people's condition on how they come here, and more so what they experience. (stories, from South of the border, Canada, even how Asians and all the areas of origins)

QUESTION:1. WOULD YOU CONSIDER YOURSELF A CANDIDATE? IF SO AS TO HOW MUCH EXTENT WOULD YOU IMPOSE ON YOURSELF, MONETARILY AND PHYSICALLY, CONSIDERING THE ACUTENESS OF THE NATURE OF THIS ACT?

QUESTION: 2. SHOULD WE ABOLISH BORDERS AND STICK WITH JOHN LENNON"S MESSAGE?

Thank you guys, please answer at your own risk, and I hope we are not under the red radar of this section as I am sure, I don't want us to jeopardize our positions, albeit freedom of expression is one inherent part of our constitution.(USA). This is one of the biggest concern in my country right now, next to Obamacare...and war in Afghanistan...(longest running war in history, since 1977)

WHAT CAN WE DO TO IMPROVE THE SITUATION? THIS IS THE FINAL QUESTION.

Thanks,

PS If I am off line and course, please advise me, I will stand corrected..

We cannot look at the present without looking at the past as Nicefeet already mentioned.

Many poor , corrupt, countries are such because they were colonised by (mainly) Europeans. Their traditional ways of governance, their natural borders etc., were torn down and reconstructed to suit the colonists. See the straight borders in a map of Africa, if in doubt.

After tearing apart their social structure, ridding them of their way of governance, raping their country of its natural resources, and of course killing many along the way, the colonist upped and left, leaving a fake country usually ungovernable, with nobody with the skills to govern having being subjugated for so long. Civil war breaks out, usually between groups that were artificially put together/ set against each other to suit the colonists. Eg. Think Tutsis and Hutus in Rwanda.
Civil war, poverty, lack of access to food and education. These are all things that make people desperate to leave their countries and seek a better life for themselves and their children.
And remember, the colonisation still continues, albeit not so overtly, Now it is economic colonisation. People starving whilst paying off a killing national debt to western countries. Western countries and big companies benefit from others misery. Think guns and munition companies..big industry - requires conflict to survive,

People will not leave their own countries, and extended family, and community, easily. They are usually forced to by factors outside of their control.

We cannot look forward without looking at the past and present.
And may I add, yes we have the right to better ourselves. But without hurting the country and its real citizens. Just like one poster said, the illegals are taking not only the jobs the locals dislike but even those skilled ones. Not really surprising since most illegals are educated. Just look at my case, when I was out of work last yr, the city hall kept prodding me to pay my helth insurance, my residence tax. But when an illegal who have been staying here for more 10 yrs married a local to gain legal status, she's not asked to pay retroactive taxes when all the while they're earning big on the time they were illegals. And me I was just earning a bit more than 10 man which is just like 1000US dollars a month. So where's justice. We have the right to better ourselves without hurting others who are legals. And the illegals just bowed their heads even the services in factories are way below human considerations hence the services never improved. I just remembered one factory, I worked with. Men and women shared a toilet. It wasn't the flush type. Itwas the type of toilets seen in far away prefectures where you'd see the floatlets. It's vacuumed almost monthly. You'd throw up really. At most, it was 6 inches to the surface. And you won't imagine how bad the smell. It sticked to your hair and uniform. And we female workers took turns cleaning it. It was only changed when I blogged about it. But I was dismissed from work. No regrets though. So many unbelievable things have experienced by yours truly. Simply because most workers there chose to be silent which is understandable.blues
A good thing, China is heavily investing in Africa. ???

I am not too sure of that personally

I don't think China has Africa's best interests at heart. It is just another example of economic colonisation.

It'd be like a Chinese consortium coming into cash-6broke Ireland offering to buy our national forests. They would throw money at the government, which needs it short term to pay off crippling nationa debts. But long-term? We would have lost ownership of a priceless natural resource forever.

Of course that could never happen here, as our government is not in any wy corruptable, and always thinks long-term for the benefit of its citizens....
Yeah right!
Tatami, I know all about the harsh condition you guys are going trhough there. My brother who was working there who contracted a project as a civil engineer, told me all about it.

And yes I am true PINAY from Laoag. But I went to college in Baguio and taught there. Came to America 35 years ago and studied a little bit in England for my Masters degree. I don't know if you meant here at the CS, if is, I have been for about 2 years but very new on the blog.

Thanks.. and keep working and I am proud of your accomplishment in the improvement of good working conditions..Good for you.

Regards to your family.

Hi Molly,

From what I understand, they are rebuilding the roads, investing in new constructions and trading for resources (oil, mining rights) in Africa.

They are not buying the forests in the EU, but buying property and some money making enterprises.
I am sure they are not doing it through the kindness of their heart, but Africa is in dire need of cash and employment for the population.
Over here, they buy in the wine making region and keep some of that industry going as to supply a population of 1.2 billion.
This is an example. Before, it was the Japanese and before that it was the US. Tomorrow?
Without export, the economic bubble of the EU would burst.
You can only tax the few so far before the pockets are empty.
The only two viable economies in the EU are the UK and Germany.
China doesn't colonize, to them it's a business proposition. You may call it economic colonization, but they are the late comers in this game.
Have a glass of Bordeaux while some is left. wine handshake

Mollybaby, yes you are very right in the cases of those who are desperately fleeing their countries for lack of protection, freedom, etc. etc. And that is why we have ASSYLUM cases to handle this kind of cases. Question is, just how long it takes for all of these to be handled. And maybe just like what Cat said, we are just plain Idealist and nothing really can be done to make it better?

Thanks.

Andie,

Delatude, thanks so much for your powerful ad passionate take on this subject. I am still at work and I promise I will get back to you on this one. Strong points in which each will take credit to be discussed further. The points you presented will be taken each one per its merits. However, I see that most of your sentiments are all the reasons, and very little perspectives on the result or achievable possibility of improving the problem.

I will get back with you. Thanks.

Well, not to sure on that,
I mean, if you going around continents, interfering, causing wars, and taking there resources and making them poor etc, and enriching yourselves.
then what is it, if they come along for survival.

Maybe the planet should be one, people free to come and go wherever and not have a this is my country, I am this etc, but one name for the whole continent, just like one big country.

Things will probably sort itself out then, no more wars etc over territory, dictatorship, conflicts between countries, more entrepeneurship development etc.
Isisjn,

Thank you so much for your strong input and yes I like your idea of getting ten years before the citizenship. In the states it is much longer than that.

Now when I was in Switzerland, did you know that the rich families of the Muslim world had been buying the prime land and properties there? One of my classmate family was a SHIEK and told me the whole story. After that, the Suisse government imposed a moratorium and can't buy unless you are a 50 generations, original or something like that.

I like your questions.

Thanks again.
And Delatude, yes you are so right about the Chinese not colonizing but actually economically controlling. When I was in Australia, they were buying all the prime properties and building all the Casinos, there specially in Gold Coast. The Chinese are the Creditor for the 60 percent of \IMF, while the rest of the world are Debtors, including USA. Now the world is the whole market of the Chinese. Most household goods are catered to the 80 percent who are all under the poverty level and guess what revenue it gives back to the Chinese? Walmart which is one of the holder of the biggest revenue here is selling nothing but all China products. multiply that in the whole nation. Ughh...

Anyways, Delatude, your lecture is highly appreciated and make a lot of sense, but still it doesn't open any door towards the needed structure we have to create to better this situation.
