Ladies !! How would YOU have reacted?

South Africa is one of the least lawful countries on earth, with the 5th highest number of total crimes reported in 2002. Bet its much worse now. Some 32,000 of the 2.6 million crimes were murders with firearms, placing the country top of the global table, and 11,000 were manslaughters, the 2nd highest number. Unsurprisingly then, South Africa has an army of 101,000 in their police force.

I know men will have a different viewpoint as I know what my reaction would have been.

You are a soft hearted, law abiding, decent down to earth lady with a good education.

One day on a peaceful Sunday afternoon while sitting at your desk in your room, reading the blogs while Skyping with a friend you hear a strange noise way down in the other side of your home.

You excuse yourself and go take a look what has caused this noise. Halfway down the passage a tanned man....and not purple or pink) armed with a crowbar comes around the corner. You are unarmed defenceless thinking your home is your sanctuary. After the initial shock you realise no one will hear your screams, the neighbours are more than 200 meters away ....

Sorry I don't have the gift of telling a story soo dancing

What would YOU have done?dunno

doh I had a feeling reading the op that this was going to be real & personal & that skype would play a role, I'm completely stunned with what you have to put up with there doh as a comparison, I heard the other day of a house that was broken into about 5km from here, they took the food from fridge freezer & that's the total crime I've heard about locally in years, some here are fencing their property but that's to stop wild boar from digging their veggies from the garden, all I can think to say is no country is worth putting up with that kind of situation, get out while you still can.
Eish, hon, glad you're okay. This is why I am in Scotland. Had a similar experience, without a Luke on Skype. Miss SA every day.

Few people who lives outside SA will appreciate the problems we have here. I don't think they realize the extend brutality we see here when strong Steel gates are tied to a care and simply ripped out of the door jambs.

It is not enough to steal the stuff in the house. They want to kill the owner as well. They don't care if there is somebody in the house when they break in and the hit you with numbers.

Now can you blame somebody when they use maximum force when there are intruders in the house?
frustrated very mad

Kitty, can I recommend one of these for your new place, English Bull Terrier, make fabulous pets but won't care what colour your attackers is, won't stand there praying for guidance but will sink it's teeth into the attackers leg bones, or any other part for that matter & won't let go even when hit on the head with a crow bar I'm reliably informed.

laugh Zman; I know right!.....rolling on the floor laughing

bunny Got dog!
I see screaming would not help so As he was coming down my hallway, I would run back into my room and grab my knitting needles... Hahahaha... and stab him in the eye. That way he could not see what he was hitting then run to my car (Hopefully I would not forget the keys). doh Humm there is a flaw in my story here. If I could run into my room and get away from him then maybe I should first grab my keys to the car and jump out the window and drive to the nearest police, only if I could not get out my window would I stab him with my knitting needle for I do not have a gun.sigh
Kitty, glad you are ok. hug

I don't worry or feel vulnerable in Germany or Ireland. We don't have weapons (thankfully) and I never felt the need for some.

Crime can happen everywhere, but if it is that much part of daily life, I don't think I could or would want to live with that. dunno
Never been to SA, but it does not seem to be so bad to me.
As long as single women can live alone in houses outside.
A burglar alone is nothing special. Happens in Germany every day many times.
About skinning no idea how often that happens, but murder and man/womanslaughter happens in Germany, too. Too often and for no real reason.

If dogs are better to live with for u than people it is the wrong way.

Just thinking of the living conditions. One room in an overcrowded city is not much, indeed. Hard to stand poverty parallel to wealth anywhere. In Germany, too.

Thinking of the school children of Soweto. Was it 1500 killed once?

Nelson Mandela is ur future.
No one suggested changing the facts, simply pointed out that it makes no difference what colour the man was and it wasnt necessary to state it. Strange man, would have sufficed, to state strange black man insinuates that the mans colour would make a difference in how someone reacts.
Glatlol

I totally agree. BUT its my blog and I can STATE what I want to, just as you can state or do what makes you happy IN YOUR OWN BLOG.
Thanks to:

Wildchild,LL, KN, Guadal (My future is far from dead, rather walk a pair of shoes thru here before talking.) Ken, Thanks again.
