In a week where the UK prime minister completed his negotiations with other EU members & announced June 23rd as the date for the in\out referendum, we're now told we'll be lucky to still be alive in June wow

LJ, on Kerry, from our point of view he's still representing the USA & campaigning to sway the vote, to me just more evidence that the USA is still determined to meddle in the affairs of other nations, true the people of the UK will take not a jot of notice of what he says, but the act is still there.
sands88 , interesting viewpoint laugh but you seem to have omitted the fact that the Russians are in Syria at the request of the government, the fact the USA doesn't much fancy that government doesn't alter the facts, the Russians have vowed to protect Syria from any invading\uninvited force, from where I'm sitting that is within there rights to do so, if America insists on interfering with the governments of other nations then there will be consequences, as on onlooker to all this & from conversations I've had with others I feel America has now lost the respect of most I'm in contact with & I dare say a good few others, just look at what Americas insistence on government change had done for Syria, turned it a wasteland from what I can see, & the numbers killed in Iraq since Saddam was toppled make his brutality look like a walk in park doh
Latest news on the EU referendum, Conservative Mayor of London Boris Johnson, who is also thought be the most likely next prime minister, comes out on the leave side.
Sands, "Z, in my eyes its not the quantity of deaths that have occurred that are material to our conversation. Its the quality"

Easy for you to say when it's not your brother, sister parents etc that are dying for your ethos doh

Incidentally I am still thinking about your last post - "This time the US will be more vigilant and wont wait till the last minute like they did in WW II to save Europe. Being a Super Power comes great responsibility"

I'm just letting that sink in, I reckon that's just finished off the last few remaining Europeans siding with America doh
shall I go on ?
But Syria has also been a good example of the use of international law. In an enhancement of the status of international law, the negotiations with the United States concerning US and NATO plans to intervene in Syria using force frequently referred to the applicable international law. The US alleged that its intervention, even if not authorized by the UN Security Council was legitimate. Russia countered by arguing it was in consistent with international law. The Russians pointed out to the Americans that the use of force against Syria, a sovereign State, was a serious violation of international law found in the Charter of the United Nations. They also pointed out that despite the United States claim that the use of force was legitimate the United States could point to no justification for the use of force that was generally accepted as international law.

Moreover, the Russian negotiators in Geneva pointed out that the United States had a legal obligation under international law not to arm non-State actors that were seeking to overthrown the sovereign government of Syria and that may have carried out the chemical weapons attacks of which the Syrian government was being accused. Some observers went so far as to point out to US Secretary of State John Kerry that he and the US President might be liable to prosecution for international crimes if they authorized the use of force against Syria without a clear UN mandate. In the event, the US backed down and accepted a negotiated solution. International law once again prevailed.

The recent situation in the Ukraine again raises questions about international law. Again, however, American lawyers and diplomats are trying to contort the law to make it fit their political agenda. Again, it is Russia that is left in the position of apparently defending international law.

While American lawyers and diplomats claim that the use of force against the Ukraine is illegal, they forget that it is being requested by the elected President of the Ukraine. When a the legitimate government of a State requests foreign assistance, it can receive it under international law. The provision of assistance to another government, even military assistance, is consistent with international law.

The case is much different when foreign governments interfere in the domestic affairs of a State to change its government because they do not like it. In Ukraine this is exactly what the United States and the European Union did, not merely by expressing their political opinion from abroad, but by sending money, weapons and advisers to the non-State actors who eventually stormed the government buildings and caused the elected-government to flee due to the use of force against it.

In such a situation Russia’s continued recognition of the elected government as a government that it is entitled to assist if it so requests, is consistent with international law. Such assistance must, of course, conform with the rules of international law relating to the use of force by the States against its citizens. However, when a State acts, even using necessary force, to restore the public order, which includes securing the elected government, then the State and those who support it, are acting in accordance with international law, not contrary to it. Any action from foreign countries to prevent Russia from assisting the elected government would itself be inconsistent with international law as an interference with a domestic affairs of a State that has requested assistance.

and ill second what Z says..the discontent that people talk about America just gets worse....
Ian, on Iraq I recall time & time again America was asked what it's exit strategy was, never did get it as it appears there wasn't one, surely someone there must have realised it was a humanitarian disaster waiting to happen doh
Must say I was somewhat surprised Jeb Bush called in old JW to support his campaign, considering most of the world now holds him responsible for the current mess we're in doh not that it did him any favours laugh
Ian, I'm impressed by this side of you. tip hat
I have live most of my life in Finland close to Russia and I know exactly who they are and how they act.

When I still had my companies in Finland and I took a contractor to make a small work inside the Building, they did half way and then their Boss come in and wanted to sell bills to me,to use them to chat taxes.

When I said to him, that I'm not interested, that I pay my taxes and that's that, then he said that he is not going to do the work in the Building to the end and that he wanted the money immediately for what they had done already..... he knew, that leaving it like that could stop our activity for weeks.

I told him, that I don't pay anything, before all is done...he walk out from my room, but went to one of my Managers and told him, that their company was in the real a Russian Company and if I don't pay him immediately,he is going to let me be killed....when my Manager came to my room and told that,I said to him, that go back and ask that man,if he is not afraid, that I kill him....that is the only thing that Russian Mafia understand, that they have to think several times, before they try to kill.

I then call to the Police and told that I'm ready to testify, that the man had try to sell me empty bills.....the Police told me,that finally they can get him and that he belongs to the Russian Mafia and that they had try to catch him already years, for what ever criminal activity.

That man call me later and ask me to back out from testifying and he is ready to do the work to the end in no time....I accept it,because I had to get the work done quickly and when I call the Police and told, that I back out, they in fact begged me to help them, but I said to them, that when I have make a deal with somebody,I don't change it anymore.

When I came to Antigua,I was on the way to put up a Bank here, with an other man,but in the end,we could not agree about everything....then I heard, that he had start to work with Russian investors and as we was still friends,I went to his office and warned him about the Russians, because I knew, that all Russians in that time, that had big money, was Mafia People,so I said to him, that in USA,when the Mafia want something, they warn you first, but Russian Mafia Kill you first, take everything they want and they never warn you.

So here it is how,Russians work.....they don't tell anything in a conflict or war situation,,what they are going to do....that is why specially the older generation in Finland has always been on the toes with Russia.

Russia showed already in Georgia, how they work in conflicts, following with exactly the same strategy in Ukraine....when they took Crimea I already told on FB,that Eastern Ukraine is next and when Russia went to support Assad,I said, that in the end Assad is going to get whole Syria back and it is all about, because the West leaders have been always late and Putin has all the time kept them as underdogs.....Western leaders are just so naive and don't understand, that Russia act first and tell then.....the only way to stop Russia is to put hard against hard and to be first on the place, when Putin has dig him self in where ever, you don't get him out anymore.

Z,the article is little over provocative, but not so far from truth and if Saudi Arabia think, that they can win the war against Assad, they are far to late on the spot...if I realize Russia right, they have already everything ready for a REAL WAR and that is going to be completely to much for Saudi and Allies, when Russia has decided to give the Country back to Assad,I hardly believe, they back out, before it is done,as the did with East Ukraine too.

Rolf
Semsu....he who is without sin cast the first stone..we know what the Russians are capable off..but lets not disguise what others are doing..otherwise its not an argument.
Ian,

you are informing in your comments about what is wrong and giving some understanding what is right,I don't touch that part in my comment,I just come up with what is going to happen and why it is going to happen, because I have already known for years, what mess USA has done....my Son that has Master from Switzerland in International Politics, has also come up with these wrongs and rights, much also because he did some of his education in Tunisia and Egypt and his Arab language teacher live in Syria, where my Son was study that Language....they are now friends and in e-mail contact all the time....so I don't argue with you about your comments and are not even interested to do that, because there are nothing to argue about it,when I have these same opinion already.

Rolf
Sorry z have Monday morning head on did not wish to debate on my lovely sundaylaugh laugh
Rolf, yes the article is very much an internet news item laugh however as Ian has attested there is a build up of forces & the exercise explanation doesn't to me hold much water, so whilst this is just one scenario it is a possibility, and seeing as it could lead to the destruction of humankind deserves some consideration imo.
I think we're all too aware of what the Russians are capable of, and indeed whilst Finland may be closer to Russia you're probably more likely to come across the Russian Mafia here in Spain uh oh I'm told along the cost from here a coffee in a bar costs €4, that's a euro for the coffee & €3 for the Mafia doh beer
Redex, it just happened to be the day I saw the article laugh I agree, and the other point to add to your comment is inconstancy, whilst arming & giving air support to opposition in Syria is seen as OK where is the same support for the opposition in say North Korea, am I being too cynical when I say - not enough oil in the region to be worth bothering about dunno
Yesterday Bif said "I always read Z's because they're usually tongue-in-cheek. This time I think I missed the joke" moping Well today I'm going to put that right professor

Z,

Finnish People are not only facing Russian Mafia, there are 30 000 Russian living in Finland, most of them ordinary and nice People, many of them not wanting to live in Russia of now....but there are also Russians, that is digging on Finnish life of security.
Russian People has bought properties next to Army Bases and most of the owner ships are going as a string to close Friends of Putin as its looks now, that Putin by himself are owning a property on Aland, the very strategic Island between Finland and Sweden and already some Leaders in Finland have come up with, that it has been a mistake to sell properties like that to Russians.

All to that, some powerful Leaders in Russian Duma, have arguing, that Finland had in the past Illegally declared it self Independent and that Finland in fact belongs to Russia.....Russia has also strong Army presence close to the Finnish border and has build it more up after the beginning of Ukraine conflict.

All this actions has put Finland in a front position, between two World powers USA and Russia.....The President is the commander of the army in conflict and he decide also who is the Leader of the Army and Jarmo Lindberg who is the Army Leader now is from the Air Forces and he was also a Army training in USA for Hornet Pilots and also looks to have a very close contact with the US Army.

Last month Finnish Army had an US Army unit in the North of Finland in training, how to act in extreme cold situation on Finnish ground, what the Finnish army is very good in.....but that was not all,now when Russia is going to have a big Army exercise soon, close to Finnish border, then there is going to be in the same time a Finnish Army exercise on the Finnish side and together with 6-8 US army F-15 Fighters as also 20 Us Tanks in action.

I don't think it is hard to see,in what direction all is going and as Russia has scared Finland with their behavior and Army exercise, the memory from the past is mirroring like a monster in the Finnish Leaders minds and then USA looks to be the most secure partner to lean on....and as many Finnish People has questioned, as an scenario on FB, is it better to live under Russia or under USA?

Finnish People had also to decide in WWll,do they want to be under Russia or involved with Germany, because there was nobody else that was ready to help us.....and I think, that is the case, with all smaller nations in the World, when they face a conflict, they can not handle by them self.

Rolf
Rolf I do know, I do not know full story, nor do I want to, it is a seedy world and knowing things will not change a dam thing. Well only make me despair because i can not alter a thing.

My last paragraph says it all for me, all we can do is help poor civillians where and how we can.hug
Z,

that your video is just PERFECTrolling on the floor laughing

Rolf
Ian,

a little correction about Afghanistan,Russia was there first and under that time the very old and high level civilization as also the exceptional beauty of that Country, broke already to peaces,so USA came in in the second wave, when all was already down.

Also as a little information more, what is telling how USA is handling things around the World in the shadow....Chechen war started in fact by CIA support, money, guns and what ever in secret.

Rolf
