The Story of 'Oh!'

Did you ever stop and think how just one word can convey so much and so many different emotions?

I finished a painting of my daughter for a project called 'children'. I loved painting it, as I can so clearly remember her 22 month old baby voice expressing so much in just one word.

"Ohhh!" She said as she gazed at the surge and splash of waves against the rocks as she lay in a tide pool.

That one word said it all. The delight, awe, wonder, curiosity, surprise at a sight she had never seen or experienced. Sure, she had seen small waves on the beach at home, but nothing like this.

I wish I could capture her voice and express it. It was what children teach us every day. How amazing this world is.

But, I digress. "Oh" can say so much, in just that one tiny word.

Oh - can convey disappointment or sadness

OH! - or surprise

Ohhhhh- understanding

ooh - happiness, wonder

oooohhhhh - pleasure

oh, oh, oh - I know

Or it can be a combination of the above to express several emotions, based on voice inflection. So many uses and meanings of such a tiny word.

Oh-oh - I think I've forgotten a couple. But you get the gist. wink

Angel ~ you will have to discuss that with the Artist. It is a really lovely Childs painting. pointing
Technically, in Murka (and other places) such a work is regarded as being "born copyrighted".

Copying by any method should have the expressed consent of the creator of the work.
Of course, with the 'net, downloading, e-printing & such, the technicalities are widely ignored.

See if imp will accept a set of dandy virtual steak knives for you to make a single copy.

miclee ~ being a painter myself,I would think that a set of lovely sable brushes would be appreciated. laugh
The picture was nice but this " The story of ' oh ' " was less exciting than the original " The story of " O " ".

Seriously.

Miclee - done! She's hired! cheers

Are you getting a finders fee?

Grouchy - yes, I know. Sorry to disappoint. rolling on the floor laughing
my mother used to say 'oh' & then you just knew she didn't approve! I can do that too wink
Tilla - LOL - yes, mother's can do that! rolling on the floor laughing
Biff, your latter example is especially used on the case of researchers.
Their findings generally belong to the company they were working for at the time. I guess they put up the funding so they expect the benefits.
Biff - I got it (your first comment) - no further explanation required. And thank you! grin

I appreciate your explanation and thoroughness. thumbs up

No joke, that could be a center piece decoration in the living room or dining room. The fact its your daughter gives it that much more meaning.
Track16 - thank you so very much. Yes, there's a lot of meaning in it for me, and most people buy paintings that strike an emotion in them. If my painting does that for anyone else, then I've succeeded in conveying that moment. bouquet
