Logon required...

Earlier this year, I noticed a few sites have changed security that requires a Logon to view webpages. Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn to name a few. Direct links from other pages works... sometimes, but attempts to access a main page requires the user to logon.

I'm predicting there will be more and more of this to where all media sources will require some kind of registration/membership to view their content.

Regular visits to Google asks me to logon... I ignore them, but the day may come where I'm unable to do any searches without being 'connected'

Unless a YouTube video is restricted to adult content, videos are open to view...
When I search on a song or artist, they and others like it keep popping up until I clear my cookies and cache files. With a logon, YouTube would have more control to select adds they think the user would view. That would require clearing the history in the membership file.

Cheap chairs...

I'm known for buying cheap office chairs. They usually last 3 to 5 years and get tossed out or handed down when a new one arrives. I've been through lots of fabric styles and a few ultrasuede versions. I dislike the bonded leather chairs as it's an emulsion of a polyurethane skin with fibers of leather for the backing. It looks and smells like plastic. Naugahyde is on my 'do not buy' list.

Also, I avoid real leather. Mostly for the expense and I don't like the smell.
Two years ago, I bought a stylish 'minimal' chair for my living room that was wood and thin leather cushions. I had to return it as the leather had a 'vomit-like' smell.

Someone I worked for years ago, bought an ultra-expensive judges chair with a high back rolled cushion top and rolled arms complete with the decorative tacks. Expensive in the range of $2,500, he made some statement his chair could easily last 15 years. Okay, but he used to shave his head and within a few weeks, the headrest started changing color from the oil in his skin! One day he came into the office (from working on something in the factory) and forgot to remove a screw driver from his back pocket. Deep scratch in the seat that will annoy him for the remaining 14 years in the life of his expensive chair!

why religion is a farce ....

the catholic church which is by far the richest farce ,has for once been truly shown to be more about money than it is about people ,
the pope has agreed that one of his cardinals can face trial for fraud and theft ,,
the 200 million dollar chelsea property bought by the vatican ,which is just a drop in the ocean to the church ,and now worth 277 million dollars ,,is money that was meant for the poor and needy ,,,
nope this church does not work that way at all ,,
it has its own bank that is not open to tax investigations ,it has its own security , and above all it has untold riches worth trillions stashed away in rome ,,,
whilst people starve all over the world ,and these same people bow down to this money machine in the name of religion ,,,
who in their right mind believe in this religious farce ,,,,,,,,,,,,

Birtherism aka the Birther conspiracy...

From what I recall, Trump cast doubt that Barack Obama was an American citizen and then blamed the Clinton's for starting the movement. All sorts of conspiracies arose from this. At the time, John McCain was running against Obama and steered clear because McCain was born in Panama... at Coco Solo Naval Air Station in the Panama Canal Zone. Since the Panama Canal was under U.S. control, he was granted a U.S. citizenship at the age of eleven months.

Who else came under the scrutiny of birth right and US citizenship by Trump?
I believe it was Ted Cruz who had dual-citizenship with Canada. All it took was signing a form to denounce his Canadian citizenship when he ran for the US presidency.

Trump is a racist who dislikes immigrants. He's stated that in public and used phrases like poisoning the blood of our country, yet his previous wife Ivana was born in Czechoslovakia. She was the mother of their 3 children. Donald Jr, Ivanka, Eric.

His current wife Melania was born in Yugoslavia (now Slovenia) and the mother of Barron.

Do you see where this is leading?

Vivek Ramaswamy, the son of Indian parents was born in Ohio, was also in words of Trump and his questionable candidates. Vivek dropped out of the race.

Now we're up to Nikki Haley who was born in South Carolina to immigrant parents from India. You guessed it... brown skin and a candidate for the 'poisoning the blood of our country'
Some say she's got no chance if he pulls the birther race card against her.

Republicans have a choice... the brown skin lady or the guy teetering on prison.

Yelp...

By definition: Yelp is to give a quick, sharp, shrill cry, as a dog or fox.
There is a website named Yelp.
It's intent is to offer a service where people give reviews of businesses (typically restaurants) they have visited.
You can rate (by stars) 1 to 5 where 5 stars is the most liked rating.
Along with the rating reviewers have room to explain their experience, what they like or dislike about a place.

Let's say you want to try a new restaurant and you check their Yelp page to find 1 or 2 five stars and 20 reviews only giving one star. Would that change your mind on going there?

Reading the reviews you might find people like the food and prices but dislike the long wait to get service. So the patrons may give them a poor rating.

Air Conditioning and auto repair companies often get some harsh reviews. Many are warranted and 'Yelpers' love to report dishonest businesses.

However, there are 2 sides to some of the people doing the reports. The person doing the report leaves a trail of who they yelped on and it appears some people cannot give a like to any business they tried. I call them 'the professional complainers' as nothing pleases them. They go around only giving negative reviews.

Maybe there should be a rate the reviewer where the other people can yelp on the yelper who cannot find any business they like!

After-all, the reason for the 'yelp' is to alert people to avoid a bad business.
So why would you go to a restaurant that got 40 negative reviews?

Two things a salesman should avoid...

Taught by a successful salesman I learned not to talk about Religion or Politics with clients.
Whenever they try to bring things up that are taboo, I steer the conversation away.

Design and price are the reasons for the meeting.

One of the strangest clients lingered on politics in the first meeting. After, I Googled their name to find a Facebook page with photos of them in costumes performing some odd bondage acts.

I priced the job considerably higher than it should have been. A week later the contractor notified me. They went with another cabinet company! Good.

Two rules. No Religion and no Politics.

I'm revising that to include a third rule. Nothing... not a word about the wife's looks.
I went to one appointment and the guy had a 'trophy wife' with stunning looks like a fashion model. I could see he was waiting for me to say something.
Sorry... no can do and that's a rule.

Put it in writing...

I'm working on the final installations for a project that started nearly a year ago.
It's been a struggle as the designer and contractor are working with me for a nice, but difficult client. It's an extreme renovation to a 40 year old mansion located on the coast, but it had severe water damage.
My first visit revealed walls cut open to treat for mildew, machines to dry the moisture between the walls and strong chemicals sprayed in attics, crawl spaces and all the areas affected by the water.

I got the contract for built-in units that include bathroom vanities, laundry, bar, butler's pantry and mud room. That went through. After, I was invited to bid closets and wardrobe units. I got that part added under a separate contract. Closets should be easy... but it turned out to be the hardest part of the project, as the client specified ultra details that took several rounds of drawing changes before she would approve production.

The client/designer ordered the hardware (handles) late delaying the installation. I did a walk through with the client and installer to go over the locations of the handles. It didn't appear that anything unusual would happen, but the client did an inspection after the hardware was installed and made a list of complaints.

Her email was copied to everyone in the team. She's out of town and only comes a few times a month to see the progress. I met the contractor this morning to address the issues stated in her email. No big deal. The installed mis-drilled a hole for a handle in one door, patched it and it's only visible when you look at the back of the door. That needs to be replaced. She and my installer agreed to the placement of the hardware, a specific distance from the edge of all the doors that was centered between the width of the 2-1/2" perimeter moulding. The master bath and guest bath doors have a wider moulding. It's 3" so the installer put the hardware in the middle of the space of those doors and the client complained because it's 1/4" different that the discussion of the other doors. Now she wants us to replace those doors.

The contractor & designer and I agree we installed them in the correct location. To use the dimension for the other doors would be wrong. All the instructions were verbal as we stood there holding hardware on the doors to agree the location. I'm now going to put in writing to explain why we did what we and hopefully, she will accept it.

Speaking of things in writing... There is a comment on a current forum thread asking who invited protesters on January 6th and was it in writing?
The answer is yes. @therealdonaldtrump did so on December 26. It's documented and part of a Twitter archive:
"The ‘Justice’ Department and the FBI have done nothing about the 2020 Presidential Election Voter Fraud, the biggest SCAM in our nation’s history, despite overwhelming evidence. They should be ashamed. History will remember. Never give up. See everyone in D.C. on January 6th."

Sometimes, when you put things in writing, it comes back to implicate you in an insurrection. But... that's the topic for another blog!
