Bluefish22: Jesus was a human being.

..........................."I'll be your saviour steadfast and true, I'll come to your emotional rescue"... Mick Jagger

nothing like a bit of mick.

"...Why do I sit the Autumnal judge?
Years of self-righteousness will not budge
Singer or savior, it was his to choose
Which of us knows what was his to lose?
Because idols are best when they're made of stone
A savior's a nuisance to live with at home
Stars often fall, heroes go unsung
And martyrs most certainly die too young"------

'The Winds of the Old Days', Judy Collins

I'm always skeptical when I see people with Bibles cluttered with hundreds of little flags, their own reflections written all over the front and back covers, half a dozen notebooks filled with journal-like ramblings. One either "gets it" or they don't. All that digging just makes a bigger hole. hint--text books don't make the profession. Living it does.

I've noticed that Christians who try to appear to have all the answers will very authoritatively and smilingly respond: "Well, we'll just have to wait until we get there", or "It's a mystery, but it's profound!". So, the final analysis is that they really don't know either, any more than anybody else.

You got to love the ones who are going through their motions, being christian, just in case,,,,
And I don't think Jesus, Mohammed, all the saints, all these prophets knew it any more then you or I.

What you just wrote here is worth writing a lot of books about. That's something I heard even from scholars in monastaries. Monks and nuns get thrilled by the mysteries, but can't explain to you when you ask. But they write books about it anyway.

This is one of my favorite teachings from the bible. I just thought I'd share it.

There is so much that is hidden that can be revealed from looking at the Bible from the perspective it was written in. One of my favorite examples is in the begats! Everyone skips the begats. The problem is the names are not translated from Hebrew to English; they are transliterated. For example, Adam’s name is a transliteration as “Adam” but the translation would be “mankind.”
If you remember, when Cain killed Abel, Seth was “appointed to” take Abel’s place. Well, in Hebrew, Seth literally means “to be appointed to.” So when Adam called for his son he would really be saying, “Hey, ‘Appointed to,’ would you please help your mother!”
We miss this by not knowing the Hebrew translation.
In Genesis 5 when you read the 10 generations from Adam to Noah in the exact order of their birth you actually get a story line. Seth gave birth to Enosh which means “feeble, frail, mortality.” Enosh was the father of Cainan which means a “fixed dwelling place” like a home compared to a tent. So in English we read Adam, Seth, Enosh, and Cainan. But in Hebrew you just said: Mankind/is appointed to/feeble, frail, mortality/a fixed dwelling place.
The story continues as Cainan becomes the father of Mahalaleel which means “God who is praised.” He is the father of Jared which means to “come down or descend.” Jared is the father of Enoch. Many remember Enoch as the one that never saw death and was taken up alive as he walked with God.
You probably know the verse, “train up a child in the way he should go.” Well it just so happens the words “train up” in Hebrew is “Enoch!” His name means to instruct or train up.
Enoch was the father of Methuselah, the oldest man in the Bible. His name means “A man sent forth.” He was the father of Lamech and Lamech in Hebrew means “to beaten and bruised.” What a name for a child. Then Lamech was the father of Noah. Noah’s name means “to bring rest, a quiet peace.” So what do we find when we put these names together in the order of their birth with a proper translation?
Mankind/is appointed to/feeble, frail, mortality/a fixed dwelling place. God who is praised/comes down/to instruct/as a man sent forth/to be beaten and bruised/bringing rest, a quiet peace!

I bet you won't hear this in a Christian church. Especially the ones that discard the Old Testament as being "done away with" by Jesus. What a shame.

It's amazing what is there in the bible when you look at it in the original Hebrew. It gets even more fascinating when you look at the ancient Hebrew picture language. Each Hebrew word is a combination of pictures which have meaning. Take the word AV. In Hebrew, the aleph (A) is an ox. It denotes strength or leadership. The bet (B) is pronounced with the V sound making the word av instead of ab. The bet (B) is the picture of a house. Hence, the word father (av) means the strength or leader of the home. Each Hebrew word draws a string of representative pictures which sort of define the word. It's very interesting.

LuvHurts51: I have found that many people have a desire to question/criticize Christianity and/or the Judeo-Christian God. I am creating this thread as a totally open forum where ideas, opinions, criticisms, and other comments can be expressed. Since this is a topic which can be passionate and explosive, I will remind everyone to please be respectful of others no matter how different your beliefs. You CAN disagree without being disagreeable.

To sort of let you know where I personally come from, I guess the easy answer would be Karaite Messianic. I believe the bible (the whole thing, not just the New Testament), but I reject the traditions of men that have made the teachings of the bible burdensome and/or paganistic. I do not claim to be a nominal Christian or a Jew, and in fact, have major differences of opinion with both groups.
Shalom!

That's what this thread is for. Expressing opinions about religion. If you feel that paganism is preferable to Christianity, then tell us about it.

Well monks and nuns have to eat too, their books typically cost $29.99,,,,,. The point is that there is a mystery to our existence and no-one knows anything about that. Not you or I, those monks or nuns or Jesus or mohammed or buddha or whoever,,,,

xtianity is edited/piggybacked off of paganism to suit the establishment of xtianity.

Most religions, or those that I'm aware of, use caste systems, or hierarchical functionality of which I approve. Otherwise I could care less about the flavor of one's specific god choice.

When a goddess knows who she wants, she has no trouble indulging her god. professor
