It's hardly likely there will be any funds left from public donations, particularly if the government doesn't upscale it's pledge, given the scale of the crisis, the number of dead which may run into triple figures and the number of families who have been left with only the pyjamas on their back.

Fortunately, various crowd funding, newspaper, Red Cross and other appeals have been launched to support those affected by the recent murders in Manchester and London.

I've not found any information regarding the government's financial support of these families. I'd appreciate it if someone else were to locate this information.

The government has released £5 million to cover immediate problems.

I don't understand why so much anger is directed at PM May, she had nothing to do with the company that installed the cladding nor the decision to use that material. To blame austerity is ridiculous, the council is at fault end of story.
As for not speaking with the rescued, she would be damned if she did and damned if she didn't, she did what she thought was right, to speak with the amazing firefighters and rescuers and then get the residents to come to Downing St, but the press just want to make a huge deal out of it. Corbyn is using this tragedy for political points which is disgusting IMO.

Local people have set up an emotional and therapy support centre, aware that NHS mental health services are already overstretched (read: utterly underfunded and inadequate).

Art therapy is available for children and counsellors have volunteered for anyone affected by the disaster who would like to go and have a chat.

Theresa May has admitted support services on the ground have been woefully inadequate and has pledged to take action, after a two and a half hour meeting with survivors, residents and community leaders at Downing Street this afternoon.

Awesome ... Let the rallying cry be 'Crayons' ... Crayons are The Answer

What bunch of clowns thinks that 'art therapy' in the immediate aftermath of an event like this is any sort of appropriate course of action ?

Rolls eyes and heads to bed

Night all !

That's why!

Today is Alquds day Mayor Khan is allowing a proscribed & therefore illegal organisation to march through London flying its banners & flags. This mayor is a disgrace.

I hear you ... but IMHO 'art therapy' and many others things become useful 'later on'

Kids ARE 'younger' but they are also extremely sensitive and while they may not be able to articulate as well as an adult can they 'know stuff' just as we do, in their own ways.

Imagine that YOU have lost a very close friend, or recall a time when you did ... and now imagine that some ( undoubtedly well meaning) individual offers you crayons and an adult colouring book 'as a distraction' ?

Or perhaps they are less creative and press you to go dining and dancing 'too soon' ... by that I mean 'this soon' before the bodies are recovered, before the funerals have taken place?

My best guess is that that idea is not going to sit well with you?

Children, like adults, also need to be 'allowed to experience their grief' and when that happens with support in a loving, compassionate (and not necessarily formalised therapy setting) they understand differently.

I've too many times seen 'armies of therapists' descend upon schools after a suicide of a student, death of a loved teacher in accident and be coerced into taking part in sessions they neither wanted or needed.

'Effective therapy' of any kind only occurs when the participants are willing ...

You can look at the abject failure of Court imposed 'Anger Management Treatment' programmes to see the reality of that!

( and sure, of course other opinions exist and that's the value of expression and debate ... sometimes it seems necessary to 'state' that what I write is 'my opinion' derived from my own life and experience - I'm not claiming 'rightness, infallibility or indeed anything else' in these threads! )

Sometimes we debate these things 'from afar' and lose track of the very real suffering of those who are directly or closely involved ... GB those people and let's keep them in our prayers.

cheers

Well said. Not wishing to make light of anything, When I was old enough to appreciate coloring books, tv Popeye and Superman were my heros. The closest thing to a perceived loss during my childhood was when I read that Superman had died. How could that be? Watching Popeye cartoons no coloring books helped me forget about Superman's death.

As Henry Ford once said

" Thinking is the hardest work - which is why so few people do much of it "

And that was around seventy years or more ago

I've no admiration for Ford's political views nor his rabid anti semitism or etc ... but just because he was not an admirable human being does NOT mean he didn't ever say anything of value !

So far as 'spam' is concerned ... you didn't see the connection between your comment above there in reply to Conrad and that people do little thinking ?

That actually surprises me !

As for "capiche" ... rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing
