Alpha doesn't equal "bossy"...or a big ego...
May be your friend misunderstands the whole situation...
Two alphas can live in harmony and even differences could be ironed and a compromise achieved without getting into some ugly scenes...
The ability to make the other one follow you and accept to follow when you see the reasons for that can not result in a war of "who are you to tell me what to do?!..." sort of...

The alpha may control less of what you do because the control freak is one example of someone who cannot live with uncertainty at all.

Why I’d be surprised if any alpha put their foot down more than 20% of the time, the rest is supposed to be challenging I believe any alpha would be happier with another alpha if the relationship has to be monogamous.

Two strong people can find respect for each other easily and not feel endangered by the other's powerful character...
On a contrary...
The desire to overwhelm and be on the top isn't there at all because you know your partner is someone who know exactly who you are...a partner not an opponent...
And the two of you form a powerful union of equals...

They will either have to find a way to coexist or it will be doomed. I think its possible but only if they are willing.

I always thought that alpha means leader, not a control freak. Two alphas can perfectly pull the load together in the same direction or to the same goal, if they have some. If they are both into control, than leadership... They can divide spheres of control and live in harmony.

A successful relationship requires cooperation. Refusal to cooperate under whatever pretence (as declaring oneself alpha or some such) would equal for me as refusal to maintain the relationship.

RedHeadedTaurus: So my friend was complaining the other day about the fact that she is in a relationship with an Alpha guy, and she was fretting about butting heads with him due to the fact that she considers herself to also be an Alpha.

She was telling me that she didn't think the relationship would last because they are both Alpha's, and neither one of them is willing to give up control, etc.

Isn't it more about compatibility, putting in the effort (and your ego aside), working together, compromising, and picking and choosing your battles? Or do you think, like my friend, that two Alpha's in a relationship are doomed?

Opinions, please …
hum.. in the wolf world the "alpha male" and "alpha female" do work together. as a team.

Regarding your friends, they are not "alpha" or beta or etc. they are immature.

Alpha females in the wild normally don't either laugh

They are just the natural leaders of the group.

I think it's possible for to people to be too alike to make a good couple.

If both people are keeping score, worried about who's really in charge, that relationship's going to suck unless they're both looking for a sparring partner.

Some people are into it, I wouldn't be happy.

I agree, Ocee

Keeping scores or constant oneupmanship is not what I'd consider to be a healthy relationship.
