LeeCharming: If my grammar was good I would write a book about all my experiences online
That's why I'm here: to practice grammar and sentence structure. I'd like to write some books someday.
In college, I skipped a grade in English, but had to drop a writing class I took for fun in my last semester; because if I didn't, it would've wrecked my GPA.
I went from an "F" student in the 8th grade, to college; because I spent years hanging out in libraries: but, I never thought to pay attention to punctuation!
I could zip through hour long tests in a few minutes, grab the test from the girl who set next to me, get us both A's, and get extra points for correcting the test, in such a short time... nobody ever suspected I was helping the girl get A's too; but I only had 5th grade grammar abilities, until a few years ago.
The way my practice is working: every now and then I notice a mistake in something I've written; and I check the college writing text book, that I keep on a corner of my bed, with a few other books-
I'd like to take that writing class again; but not until, I'm confident it won't harm my GPA.
If anyone sees me make a grammar mistake, and feels like taking the time to correct me, I won't mind a bit. In fact, I'd really appreciate it.

I have dyslexia, so spell checker to me is great, but my grandson advised me it changes words so maybe my misspelling is the better option to get my meanings across

Nam, your commitment to improving yourself is admirable. Some people react to correction as if it were an insult or an attack on their character. I appreciated that you caught my spelling mistake. (still not sure why spell check didn't catch it... I have my suspicions why though.)
It was commented on another thread that sloppy grammar and spelling is a sign of sloppy logic. I totally agree with that statement. The ancient Greeks knew that language acquisition was fundamental before learning in other areas could take place. The first step of the Classical method of the Trivium is Grammar followed by Logic and Rhetoric.
I hope that more and more people grow to understand the value of being able to correctly express their thoughts through writing.
Making threads to mock such academics is a sign of low class.

Thank you Kaylana,
I've always loved learning things. That's why I spent so much time in libraries.
Learning how to communicate via writing is relatively new to me. I'm more interested in learning for the sake of learning, than improving myself.
I read labels, and spend days, months, or years, researching almost everything that interests me in my life... not always in books; but in testing interesting things, like spending years studying how to travel around the country with the clothes on my back, or cut my own hair.
I guess the books I'd like to write would express things I learned along the way, that I haven't found in books.
I practice expressing the most minute details of things with writing; to keep from confusing people who care enough to listen to me, or read my stuff.
Improving myself is just a side effect of a hunger for knowledge, and the desire to share it.

well, for my work I use google translate a lot, Just to check if the spelling, in french, german, spanish, italian or english is correct, and sometimes the meaning of a word.
Then I can type for instance (don't know if this is correct, blame Google Translate for it) : Thee (the dutch word for tea), translate it to english and it will say tea. Translate back to dutch and suddenly it says coffee. Actually, I guess tea will be translated good, but a lot of other words are changing everytime.
