I had a dear friends who parted with his lady friend. he got through it (and so did she) and he always showed a happy face whilst going through the parting, looking back this what I saw though his eyes.that many did not.... Splinter Love
I was at work one night when I got a wooden splinter in my finger. I tried to pull it out but it was too deep. I worked for another 11 hours with that splinter in my finger and I was in a lot of pain. Suddenly I made the connection in my mind that this little thing hurt like the end of my marriage. When I got home I broke the splinter trying to take it out. Then I had to dig and cut around it to get the rest out. It left an ugly wound. I sat down at my computer and wrote the poem, almost without having to think about it.
