Chorus from the John Prine song, "Living in the Future"

"We are living in the future
I'll tell you how I know
I read it in the paper
Fifteen years ago
We're all driving rocket ships
And talking with our minds
And wearing turquoise jewelry
And standing in soup lines"

If you've never checked this talented songwriters stuff out, he's well worth the effort. Most of his stuff is available to listen on the web...

The end of the world ( the song )

The end of the world has come.
We are going crazy.
Why must it come like this.
I wish it wouldn’t end like this.

As the world is ending
I am looking for you
So I can die by your side
As the world is ending
I reach for you
But your not there

I am running searching every house
On every block
I need you by my side
As the world ends
I wish it wouldn’t end like this

As the world is ending
I am looking for you
So I can die by your side
As the world is ending
I reach for you
But your not there

I scream your name
But you don’t answer
I try to let you know I am here
But you didn’t answer
I wish it wouldn’t end like this

As the world is ending
I am looking for you
So I can die by your side
As the world is ending
I reach for you
But your not there

People are running and screaming
But I’m standing there looking for your face
I fall down on my knees
I want to be with you one last time
I wish it wouldn’t end like this

As the world is ending
I am looking for you
So I can die by your side
As the world is ending
I reach for you
But your not there

I need one last kiss
To hear the words I love you one last time
I want to feel you next to me
I want to hold you one more time
I wish it wouldn’t end like this

As the world is ending
I am looking for you
So I can die by your side
As the world is ending
I reach for you
But your not there

Then I hear you scream my name
You came to me
You rapped your arms around me
You kissed me
You say you love me
I feel you next to me
Then you say

As the world is ending
I found you
And now I can die beside you
As the world is ending
I reach for you
And now you are there

To Our Flag

---- IMAGE REMOVED because photobucket.com no longer allows embedded images ----

Verse I

In the good ol' U.S.A.,
Thank the stars for ev'ry day.
Where the people know they're free
To be who they want to be.
It's the country of my birth.
There's no finer place on earth.
And I love our Stars and Bars,
In peacetime, and during wars.

Chorus

May she wave on through the night!
May she always stand for right!
May she guard the ones who guard us,
Keep them safe til mornin's light.

Verse II

The defenders of our Flag,
Never stop and never sag.
Working hard both night and day,
So that we can live our way.
May not always quite agree,
With so called powers that be,
But the brave that for us fight,
Glory, keep them safe tonight.

Verse III

As their buddies they protect,
Those at home they don't neglect.
They go fight for you and me,
So our Flag flies o'er the free.
There are nations far and wide,
Wave their country's flag with pride.
That to me is more than fine,
You wave yours and I'll wave mine.

About this poem:
Blatant, unabashed patriotism. Not stylish, I know, but it's how I feel. Got nothin' against other countries, have visited a few and hope to visit a lot more, but this will always be MY country.

Prohibition

Verse I

Recalling prohibition days,
When he was just a kid.
Mom said, "Hide! There's bullets flyin!"
So that's just what they did.
The war waged on for three long days,
Fought o'er a moonshine still.
Gunshots heard through window screens,
As they hid neath the sill.

Chorus

It was the roaring twenties and,
The Tommy guns did roar.
The blood flowed with the whiskey as,
The Reaper kept the score.
Though long ago, the legend still,
Lives on forevermore,
Of the great St. Louis massacre,
Of nineteen twenty-four.

Verse II

When finally all the shooting stopped,
The kids just had a ball,
Through blood-stained streets they ran to dig.
The bullets from the wall.
No way of telling now or then,
How many fought and died.
Neath grandstands of the greyhound track,
The bodies they did hide.

Verse III

This tale is true, as told to me,
My father was that lad.
His childhood had this one bright spot,
Though much of it was sad.
Seems strange to think a shooting spree,
Could somehow bring such joy.
Excitement coursed right through the veins,
Of that scared little boy.

Mortality

Death is well renowned, it lives on it's own. Life it does not spare, human sentiments it doesn't care. It devour man and beast, of status, couldn't care least. It takes young and old, it disconnects body and soul. Not important right or wrong, bodies are brought to ground; they decend to the grave, none could help nor save. For life brings this dispair; sting of death, non spared. so enjoy your life now, today, some day soon, you'll past away.

The Year 2007

THE YEAR 2007

Video games in the dark rooms
take the children away

I am not afraid of the werewolf
It doesn't exist,
he's not real

Flying saucers in the backyard
get the neighbours upset,
scare dogs and cats to death,
take the children away

Would you like to go on Mars?
Jeopardise, lachrymose

Meditation at 8:00
Don't be late!
Save your soul
The ultimate goal

Land of the dead

The other night when I was in bed,
With too many things in my head,
I went walking through the land of the dead,
Walking through the land of the dead...,

I heard all the things that they said,
I have many demons I dread,
Faces in the places ahead,
Whisper things I'd like to forget...,

Death's with me but she is my friend,
Said "Come and be with me in the end",
So I follow wherever I'm led,
We keep walking through the land of the dead...,

Now I'm laying down in my bed,
It's been made the sheets are all spread,
When reality and fantasy blend,
I know I wont be back again...,

Yeah...Walking through the land of the dead,
Walking through the land of the dead,
I been walking through the land of the dead
With these faces in the places ahead...,

Death's with me and she is my friend,
See it's our destiny to be in the end,
So I go wherever I'm led,
Walking through the land of the dead...

Save Her! (Song Lyric)

---- IMAGE REMOVED because photobucket.com no longer allows embedded images ----

Verse I

With leaves like wings in two-tone gloss
A stately, noble presense
You wouldn't think to look at her
She's under a death sentence
They want to cut her down you see
How can they be so heartless
Put in her place a parking lot
All in the name of progress

Chorus

That Ginko tree grows tall and strong
She's such a wond'rous sight to see
Been standin' there, who knows how long
Oh please don't cut that Ginko tree

(instrumental verse)

(repeat chorus)

Verse II

If parking lot they need to build
Why can't they build around her
One less parking spot won't hurt
Just leave her as they found her
She'll shade the cars in summertime
Beneath her lovely bower
When autumn brings the changing leaves
She'll form a golden tower

(repeat chorus)

the girl

the girl that walked on glass. now it is broken and she is free at last. free to travel the roads that bound her, free to travel the roads that unwind , leaving leaving the world she left behind. the girl that walked on glass , now it is broken and she is free at last. by peggy anne
