Jobless Blues

Verse I

Was doin' good, my eagle flyin' high,
Yeah, doin' good, my eagle flew so high,
Then all at once that well it just ran dry.

Chorus

Can't find no work now, don't know what to do,
There ain't no work, what am I s'posed to do?
Just one more fool to sing these jobless blues.

Verse II

My unemployment lasted for a while,
Yeah, unemployment saved me for a while,
Now it's all gone an' bills are pilin' high.

Verse III

Not on the street but guess it won't be long,
Not homeless yet but can't be very long,
Til landlord say it's time for movin on.

Verse IV

Worked all my life, ain't never been this way,
I've worked so hard, how could it be this way?
With nothin' left to keep the wolves at bay.

BEHOLD! I SPEAK OF LOVE

BEHOLD! I SPEAK OF LOVE
by ken coons

Behold! I speak of love as one
Who babbles not for sake of sound,
But as a lad who walked her plank
And struggled hard, then slowly sank
As though my limbs were bound.

Behold! I speak of love to warn
Young hearts that blossom in the spring.
In this the season it is grand,
But can that frail bud withstand
The snow that Winters bring?

Behold! I speak of love to say,
'Tis not a thing that comes by chance.
It must be bought, and payments made,
And though the price is never paid,
Take not a backward glance.

Behold! I speak of love again,
That I might mention of the cost.
Though it is great, and hard to bear,
If you give up in sad despair
Your equity is lost.

Behold! I speak of love to all.
I babble not for sake of speech.
But as a lad who only grinned,
And threw all caution to the wind,
'Tis you I now beseech.
Behold! I speak of love.

The Spell Has Broken

Spell has broken, magic is all gone,
The moon has lost that old special charm.
Guess some things aren't meant to last that long.

In this old world, magic's running thin.
There is no way romance's gonna' win.
Hard to believe it has ever been.

Sweet enchantment gone away for good.
Who would have seen that it ever could?
Should have known it, never thought it would.

Saw it coming, still tried to pretend.
Wanted to think it would never end.
Magic left us, won't return again.

Pretty Fine Day

Verse I

Woke up this mornin',
And that's always a plus.
Still up on top of,
The ashes and the dust.
No indications,
That I have woke up dead.
Guess it's okay to,
Get on up out of bed.

Chorus

It's a pretty fine day,
When I'm not feelin' too sad.
It's a pretty fine day,
When the pain is not too bad.
It's a pretty fine day,
When the wolves are all at bay.
Overall I gotta say,
That this is a pretty fine day.

Verse II

Up on my feet, yeah,
Both legs still workin' too.
Head to the kitchen,
I got coffee to brew.
Not on the street and,
There's plenty food to eat,
Just count my blessings,
I'm not yet in defeat.

Verse III

Got through the day with,
No new catastrophies.
No wants or warrants,
So I'm still runnin' free.
And if I'm sinkin',
The hole is not that deep.
No worries now as,
I drift on off to sleep.

Hotline

Verse I

Friday night in this one-horse town,
Music's lame, thinkin' homeward bound.
Wait a minute! Who's that I see?
Pretty lady lookin' back at me.

Chorus

Is it hot in here, or is it just you?
Lookin' bored, you need somebody to do.
I can curl your toes, girl I swear it's true.
Is it hot in here, or is it just you?

Verse II

I smiled at her. She smiled at me.
Thinkin' she'd like some company.
Hey barkeep, put her on my tab,
An' I'll take one of what she has.

Verse III

Hey sweet thing, can we talk a while?
Lookin' good an' I like your style.
You and me, we could have some fun.
Rock your world til the mornin' come.

Verse IV

She didn't buy my cheesy lines,
Made her laugh, so it worked out fine.
Wadda ya' know now, glory be,
That little girl came home with me.

shadow of darkness

Do you miss me through the shadow of darkness, I can see you but i'm blinded by our love, things that i do take for granted by one should always be appreciated.

Our love was strong but now that we're apart all the memories are always there, locked up inside of deep emotion i wonder what will happen to us. I've been hurt so who do i learn to no and trust, draws like a magnet to each of us deviding two worlds apart through the power and strength of love.

What direction shall i follow will it be the right or wrong there is only one past way to choose.

Not That Kind of Love (redux)

Verse I

Thought we'd be together and nevermore to part.
I put aside my pride, then gave to her my heart.
Thought she was my angel, sent down from up above.
(She said) I love ya baby, but it's not that kind of love.

Chorus

What kind of love could it be?
Where she don't want to love only me?
I never thought I'd be the fool,
Home with a broken heart, wond'rin',
What kind of love could it be?

Verse II

So I found another, we dated for a while.
This girl had a lot of class, had a lot of style.
Seemed to be the perfect fit, I'd been dreamin' of.
(She said) I love ya baby, but it's not that kind of love.

Verse III

Listen to me baby and listen to me well.
Seen a lot of women, way more than I can tell.
I may seem like the hand, that fits your velvet glove,
(And I) love ya baby, but it's not that kind of love.

Final Chorus

What kind of love could it be?
I'd tell ya' girl but you'd never see.
Now you don't wanna' be the one,
Home with a broken heart, wond'rin',
What kind of love could it be?

On the Side of the Road (redux)

Verse I

I hitch to get to where I need.
I have no car you see.
Times are rough,
But I am tough,
Sometimes you gotta be.
I get good rides most of the time,
At others it's no go.
It's all good
Get what I should.
On the side of the road.

Chorus

On the side of the road,
On the side of the road,
You never know,
How it wiill go,
On the side of the road.

Verse II

There's money lost and money found,
A crapshoot at the best.
Take the things,
Good fortune brings,
And disregard the rest.
I've found the thing to do is just,
Sit back and watch the flow.
What goes by,
Upon the tide,
On the side of the road.

Verse III

Sometimes there are people too,
Out wanderin' around.
Just like me,
They're try'n' to see,
What's out there to be found.
Some are nice and some are mean,
You never really know.
Some are out,
Just roam'n' about,
On the side of the road.

I Love You

I love the time we spend together
Those special moments shared.

If loving you means really caring
I've loved you cause I've cared.

TAKE MY HAND

Free up your mind and wonder
take your hurt away
when all your head is gone
when you know you don't belong
sentimental journeys all
take my hand and we'll fly away

Lay your head on mine
share the heavy heart
its over now
if i can i'll help you anyhow
turn a frown into a smile
take my hand and we will fly away

Some may even say
to hold a truth in lies
i'll be moving on
love should sing to me a pretty song
all i hear is minor keys
take my hand and we'll fly away

On angels wings we ride
heaven surely hides
keep us from safe from harm
shelter lessons learned that hate derides
i'll let you go so long, goodbye
my only love you can, fly away.

fly away, fly fly away,
fly away fly away……... fly away……….
fly away……….....
fly away

About this poem:
The words to a song i wrote a year ago. Its one of my favourite songs written by me and i always love to play it on piano. Very simple haunting melody with no chorus or bridge but i like it that way so i left it. If anyone wants to hear the musical version with me playing piano let me know.
