Cross That Bridge

Verse I

The creek runs swift and wide with melt from that last snow,
Gotta get across somehow, there's just one way to go.
This two-lane narrow bridge ain't got no place for me.
If a semi comes along, guess I'll just be history.

Chorus

Oh, the old Iron bridge on Indian Creek ain't got no place to hide,
An' tryin' to get accross on foot is damn near suicide.
Yeah, it's damn near suicide, oh Lord, it's damn near suicide.
Yeah, tryin to get across on foot, is damn near suicide.

Verse II

This ol' bridge was built way back in horse an' buggy days.
When folks would go much slower, haulin' veg'tables an' hay.
It may be twelve feet wide, or fourteen at the most.
If a big-rig wants t' cross right now, I guess I'll just be toast.

Verse III

There's no way to avoid it, there ain't no way around.
Gotta grit my teeth an' set my jaw, get back on solid ground.
The creek is much to shallow, the bridge is way too high.
Gotta choose between two broken legs, an' a good chance that I'll die.

About this poem:
No car at the moment, so I've been getting around on foot and by hitchhiking. This rural area makes no provisions for pedestrians. :D

Somebodies Daughter

I had a flat tire on a lonely country road
When she came along in her hot pink Olds
She asked if she could do anything for me
All I could do, was drool on my knee

Her hair was long and black and her skin was ivory
When she stood up she was all of six foot three
Her hot burning lips began to speak again
All I could do, was drool down my chin

Her hair was long and black
She had looks that would last
My mind was going slack
She had legs up to her.....

Then I heard my Momma cry!!

"Mind your manners son that's somebodies daughter
Be careful what you say or they will take you away
Mind your manners son that's somebodies daughter
Be careful what you say or they will take you away"

She came right over and stood right next to me
While I kept staring at the scenery
She asked me what the problem with the car could possibly be
All I could do, was drool on my sleeve

She fixed my tire just as easy as can be
While my eyes kept going glazy
As she drove away she turned and waved goodbye
All I could do. was drool on my ........ Tie

Her hair was long and black
She had looks that would last
My mind was going slack
She had legs up to her.....

Then I heard my Momma cry!!

"Mind your manners son that's somebodies daughter
Be careful what you say or they will take you away
Mind your manners son that's somebodies daughter
Be careful what you say or they will take you away"

Hitchin' Down to Jane

Verse I

The world has turned to green again,
So I guess winter's done.
The daffodils and dogwood trees,
Say spring has fin'ly sprung.
Gotta go almost to Arkansas,
Supplies I must obtain.
I have no wheels to make the trip,
So'm hitchin' down to Jane.

Chorus

Hitchin' down to Jane, yeah,
Hitchin' down to Jane.
I've things to buy,
And have no ride,
So'm hitchin' down to Jane.

Verse II

The nearest store with what I need,
Is eighteen miles away.
I have no friend to take me there,
I'm very sad to say.
The car I had caught fire you see,
There's only me to blame.
Too far to walk and I can't fly,
So'm hithchin' down to Jane.

Verse III

Guess I could postpone my trip,
And go another day.
But the weather's fine an'I have the time,
So'm on my lonely way.
The road is long and treacherous,
It always seems the same.
But I'm outta wine and cigarettes,
So'm hitchin down to Jane

Honey Bee

Verse I

We both made mistakes,
In love and in life.
You took the wrong husband,
I chose the wrong wife.
Our mis'ry dragged on,
Went on for so long.
Happiness always out of reach.
Our rights were all wrong.

Chorus

My sweet honey Bee,
So precious to me.
I looked for so long to find you,
Then finally you found me.
Now we are one,
The looking is done.
You'll walk hand in hand through life with me,
My sweet honey Bee.

Verse II

The road was so long,
To find our sweet love.
It seemed it would never end at all,
And then from above,
The sky opened up,
The sun filled our cup.
Now we'll have each other dear,
Things fin'ly look up.

Verse III

And now that we know,
We'll always have us.
Nothing will ever come between,
And life is a rush.
A reason to live,
A passion to give.
We will be legend you and I,
Long after we live.

Temporary Home

A little boy, six years old
A little too used to being alone
Another new mom and dad
Another school, another house that will never be home
When people ask him how he likes this place
He looks up and says with a smile upon his face

This is my temporary home, it's not where I belong
Windows and rooms that I'm passing through
This is just a stop on the way to where I'm going
I'm not afraid because I know
This is my temporary home

Young mom, on her own
She needs a little help, got nowhere to go
She's looking for a job, looking for a way out
'Cause a halfway house will never be a home
At night she whispers to her baby girl
"Someday we'll find our place here in this world"

This is our temporary home, it's not where we belong
Windows and rooms that we're passing through
This is just a stop on the way to where we're going
I'm not afraid because I know
This is our temporary home

Old man, hospital bed
The room is filled with people he loves
And he whispers
"Don't cry for me, I'll see you all someday"
He looks up and says
"I can see God's face"

This is my temporary home, it's not where I belong
Windows and rooms that I'm passing through
This was just a stop on the way to where I'm going
I'm not afraid because I know
This was my temporary home

This is our temporary home

Would You Go With Me

Would you go with me if we rolled down streets of fire
Would you hold on to me tighter as the summer sun got higher
If we roll from town to town and never shut it down

Would you go with me if we were lost in fields of clover
Would we walk even closer until the trip was over
And would it be okay if I didn't know the way

If I gave you my hand would you take it
And make me the happiest man in the world
If I told you my heart couldn't beat one more minute without you, girl
Would you accompany me to the edge of the sea
Let me know if you're really a dream
I love you so, so would you go with me

Would you go with me if we rode the clouds together
Could you not look down forever
If you were lighter than a feather
Oh, and if I set you free, would you go with me

If I gave you my hand would you take it
And make me the happiest man in the world
If I told you my heart couldn't beat one more minute without you, girl
Would you accompany me to the edge of the sea
Help me tie up the ends of a dream
I gotta know, would you go with me
I love you so, so would you go with me

Three Chain Road

Billy was a drover
He lived out on the three chain road
Fell in love with Mary and they married
She made his shack a home

He drove them off to Queensland
And it hurt to have to leave her on her own
But she promised shed be waiting
When he brought the cattle home

Theres a lonesome wind blowing down
The three chain road tonight
Its sending out a warning as she blows
Billy dont go riding down
The three chain road tonight
The wind is crying Billy please dont go

Billy came home early
He wasnt due for many days
Walked into the cabin and found his Mary
In a strangers arms she lay

In the blindness of his anger
The fatal shots rang out from Billys gun
In that smoky silence he knew
And he wept for what hed done

Theres a lonesome wind blowing down
The three chain road tonight
Its sending out a warning as she blows
Billy dont go riding down
The three chain road tonight
The wind is crying Billy please dont go

Billy walked out slowly
He knew what must be done
Somewhere in the darkness a shot rang out
Billys time had come

They say his spirits out there
You can feel it every time the cold wind blows
Its warding off the strangers
Who come by the three chain road

Theres a lonesome wind blowing down
The three chain road tonight
Its sending out a warning as she blows
Billy dont go riding down
The three chain road tonight
Theres a lonesome wind blowing down
The three chain road tonight
Its sending out a warning as she blows
Billy dont go riding down
The three chain road tonight
The wind is crying Billy please dont go

Shotgun

Love me in the morning,
Love me like you need me,
I hear you call and your never gonna leave me.
Loving you is easy,
Never gonna say goodbye.

Love me in the evening,
Hold me till i'm sleeping,
I know your with me,
I hear you breathin',
Yeah I'm gonna love,
Yeah I'm gonna love you right.

Rainfalls louder, snow falls down,
colours brighter when you're around,
Cause there's no shotgun hanging around my door tonight.
With you I'm safe here till' the morning light.

Love me in the morning,
Love me like you need me,
I hear you call and your never gonna leave me.
Loving you is easy,
Never gonna say goodbye.

Love me in the evening,
Hold me till i'm sleeping,
I know your with me,
I hear you breathin',
Yeah I'm gonna love,
Yeah I'm gonna love you right.

Whispers softly, take my hand,
Hold me closer, right till the end,
Cause there's no shotgun hanging around my door tonight.
With you i'm safe here till the morning light.

X2
Love me in the morning,
Love me like you need me,
I hear you call and your never gonna leave me.
Loving you is easy,
Never gonna say goodbye.

Love me in the evening,
Hold me till i'm sleeping,
I know your with me,
I hear you breathin',
Yeah I'm gonna love,
Yeah I'm gonna love you right.

Cause there's no shotgun hanging around my door tonight.
With you i'm safe here till the morning light

White Liar

Hey white liar
The truth comes out a little at a time
And it spreads just like a fire
Slips off of your tongue like turpentine
And I don't know why
White liar

You better be careful what you do
I wouldn't wanna be in your shoes
If they ever found you out
You better be careful what you say
It never really added up any way
I got friends in this town

Hey white liar
The truth comes out a little at a time
And it spreads just like a fire
Slips off of your tongue like turpentine
And I don't know why
White liar

You said you went out to a bar
And walked some lady to her car
But your face has more to tell
Cuz my cousin saw you on the street
With a red head named Bernice
Turns out you don't lie too well

Hey white liar
The truth comes out a little at a time
And it spreads just like a fire
Slips off of your tongue like turpentine
And I don't know why
White liar

Here's a bombshell just for you
Turns out I've been lying too

Yeah I'm a white liar
The truth comes out a little at a time
And it spreads just like a fire
Slips off of my tongue like turpentine
And I don't know why
White Liar

Grog Monster

Just a quiet young bloke from out near Hay
With a well respected family name
He didn't drink or smoke never swore or fought
Well at least that's what his parents thought

But that all changed on the day he headed off to school
He became a household name for breaking all the rules
He'll be straight arm drinking blind man thinking
How can I go wrong?
Well he's the best he'll show the rest
He's right where he belongs
Bringing to the table how his old man used to play
It's a job it's a duty to
Let the grog monster off the chain

He's a bit of a legend with all his mates
When he ploughs the tractor right through the gates
And he'll drag the dirtbike through the door
Do some doughnuts on the kitchen floor

He'll be spinning from the clothesline
And fighting mates for fun
The centre of attention when he's wearing all his rum

Now he'll go down in history
As an alcoholic inductee
And we won't forget the stunts his pulled
Or the machinery that he's totalled

But he'll use his skills train them up initiate his peers
The grog monster tradition will then live on for years

Party startin' fire lightin' dancing in the rain
Raise that arm above his head and look out
He's off the chain
Tractor driving, bare-fist fighting, going all the way
Damage and destruction is his game
He's off the chain
He's off the chain
