MODIFYING an ADJECTIVE, OR OBJECTIVE

I WENT TO WAR WITH A WALL

Don’t worry honey, I protect my life
With a concealed and well honed knife
No switch blade, just a steak knife we had laying around
But just like a switch blade it will bring a man down

Don’t worry honey, I know the street too well
When you walk with me can’t you tell?
The street agrees with me and I with the street
And sincerely the street and you should meet

It’s a place where animals get out for awhile
Away from a place of cement and tile
So they rush to the trough just like all of the rest
And then scurry back to their cage or their nest

None of them give a damn about anyone
They don’t even trust a priest or a nun
Wave the Monroe Doctrine in front of them and they wince
Because everyone there thinks they’re a princess or prince

So when I go to various venues to rob and to steal
You know it baby, your lover is for real
Oh, and just in case I happen to fail
Make sure you can get money for my bail

diD yoU KNoW That beFOre?

DID YOU SNOW THAT BEFORE
That’s how it goes
The rain bounces off the concrete
And then some days it snows
When it’s difficult to lift one’s feet

Now imagine you have to get somewhere
A place where peace is found and personified
It doesn’t matter how far a trip you must bear
While thirteen inches of snow is by which your trip is defied

Now I’m talking about a place of perfect peace residing there
But hanging in a closet six miles away is your armor for protection
A place where few people would go from force or out of fear
But then you envision a shooting gallery where relaxation is found with every calming injection

while outside a tenement window a teenager views the snow
And he never need wonder why he ends up there within
He hears the soothing sigh of every shot and the sound of the wind to blow
While the teen knows that going to a damnable domain is a sacrilegious sin

Now that once young teenage boy has swiftly turned too old
Yet and still he treks anywhere a junkie goes
YET AND STILL A JUKIE KNOWS
It doesn’t matter if it’s 99 degrees or a freezing frigid and cold
Let’s look at it this way, at least there ain’t no grass to mow
And Lord knows this is one junkie ain’t going to be hampered by two feet of snow

teef tsrst daed

FEET FIRST DEAD FRED
I was raised amidst visceral violence
And caterwauling cop cars are all that broke the silence
No one spoke lest word be spread
When Smokey Joe end’s up feet first dead

Sally had a thing for Sal
And Sally was quite a gal
But Sally also had her eye on a dude called “Red”
And then poor Sal was buried feet first dead
There were opponents aplenty with whom to pick a fight
When Louis LaScala fought anyone it perked up a dismal summer’s night

I was seven when someone first showed me a zip gun
A block of wood, a bullet and a rubber band fashioned to kill someone
Some were trigger happy fools who didn’t make anyone glad
but those are the ones who think their sanity is simply a fad
It’s a shame because if you could speak to a guy named “Fighting Fred”

He’d tell you how and why he ended up feet first dead

It had something to do with Fred, some guy’s old lady and a bed
This was a town of tenements in a suburb of a citadel called Hell
We learned to war, to protect and the hell with learning to spell
Fatefully Frankie “Forever” Fader one day just wasn’t around
That’s because Fancy Frankie’s “forever” put him feet first in the ground
And when some little kid gets mistakenly killed in a drive by there are no witnesses to be found

So that’s the tale of a town I was fostered within
A place where “Desperation Avenue" meets a street called “Sin”
I know not what awaits my fate and may lie just ahead
Because who’s to say I won’t end up buried feet first dead

sHadoWS Of shAMe

SHARDS OF SHAME

Yesterday is now my shadow cast~~
A darkened image for a darkened past~~
The things I’ve done out of desperation~~
I brave only now to reveal such information~~

For speak I not at this time and place~~
lest yesterday’s shadow will bare my face~~
The atrocities I’ve committed or played a part
The memories live on in that shadow’s heart

Shadows can shame one into submission
And thusly do I declare this adamant admission
I’ve held metal and steel well aimed to frighten
And my darkness is someplace nothing can brighten

No sun to stop the thought of a gun
Grab the old ladies pocket book and run
wait in the lobby of a fine hotel somewhere
Step into an elevator with a lady I’d dare

She presses fourteen and I pressed fifteen
And making a lady pee her pants is miles more than mean
I used to make excuses but now I’ve stopped at last
And each admittance resides in yesterday’s shadow cast

my audience is dwindling and rightully so

three people read my poem a day
shit that's three more than none
WELCOME TO MY NEW HOME

Welcome here you all
And my, you got so tall
Mom, your hair looks great
As usual dad is late

Latently late on such a day
He hasn’t seen me since I went away
Dad’s hip hurts and his hair is turning gray
But the game of my being ever wrong he’ll still play

Mom, how’s Aunt Sally and Uncle Joe
I know both of them move very slow
Their son Derrick comes to visit when he’s able
And he brings along his girlfriend named Mable

So tell me is the house in good shape?
And how about that lovely landscape?
I always loved that 300 year old oak
And when I was a child I believed that tree and me spoke

So Derrick, you knew the tree with wisdom one learns not in school?
It said “Sometimes one must but it’s better never to break a rule
But I wouldn’t listen to the old oak tree whenever it spoke to me
And that’s why I’m behind bars for twenty to thirty-three

D.N.R. EVER EVEN IF YOU THINK I CAN LIVE please!

D.N.R. EVER EVEN IF YOU THINK I CAN LIVE

Not one junkie I know has a test kit for purity
But I can tell you this much with surety
Although we should all be grateful for survival
I’d rather be declared dead on arrival

Frankly I’ve had enough of never being certain
And I begged the stagehand to bring down the curtain
An addict yearns for quality and a cloud like dream
But Then I awake in a hospital and begin to scream

I scream for the friends I’ve lost who were never revived
Shoot, I haven’t even a clue how I have survived
Every day I’m a pearl in peril on a random roulette wheel
Never knowing if I’ll O.D after I consume my last meal

So next time anyone sees me in the gutter simply leave me there
Because I can tell you this much and I’ll make it clear
I’ve never given a damn about religion or the Holy Bible
But I swear on it, please, this time let me be declared dead on arrival

YO J! THIS AIN'T A "J" POEM

v]
DID WILL, BILL AND GIL GET THEIR PILL?

I have this great idea to invent a pill
Make it so men can get pregnant as well
Dudes walking around in camouflage
Get a huge belly and know pregnancy is an un-earthly hell

This pill will be mandated and mandatory to ingest
Let’s let men do what women have been doing since Eve
Let the future climb out of Walter’s womb
With little baskets to make and baby blankets to weave

So mommy is in one hospital room and daddy’s in another
And our peaceful home will be noisy for quite a while
One kid from her and the other one from him
And the dad wonders how his wife can summon a smile

Don’t all of you get it, there’s been a problem for years
And we should have monitored each and every birth
Because all we’ve accomplished is a problem made worse
And doesn’t everyone understand we are over-populating the earth?

born BLIND to THE uni-CURSE

BORN BLIND TO THE UNICURSE

Please advise me when I can open my eyes
Until then closed shall they be
I’m blinded and deafened to any lies
As angry grows the sea

I refuse to see the sadness I’ve seen
I won’t look at the ugliness mankind can’t deny
So give me a Jack with a beer back and a bit of Grenadine
As angry grows the sky

Were I to open mine eyes as of now I know what I’d see
I’d see the same waste and an eight year old kid with a gun
So why would I want to see the greedy, the needy and junkies like me?
As angry grows the sun

‘tis wrong to see what we’ve done to the earth
And now living on this planet has become a caustic curse
Our society is a monument to the death of merriment and mirth
As angry grows the universe

DOES N E 1 HAVE THAT STUPH FOR DRY EYES?

DID YOU SAY CLOWN OR DROWN

I aimed my eyes essentially to the east
While trying to escape a beast
I looked to the sanctimonious sea
With waves intent on drowning me

I heard some underwater creatures having a discussion
And with every word I understood each repercussion
They said there is a consequence to every action we consign
While I relegate to yesterday that which used to be mine

I had a staring contest with a blinding sun
And to me it mattered not who lost or won
I looked at my mast and realized it had cracked
And at that moment I realized drowning was a matter of fact

I looked behind to yesterday
And didn’t care very much for what it had to say
Over the years I’ve considered ashes and/or graves
But I never, for one moment, thought my headstone would become these watery and wicked waves

breakfast AIN'T eggs BENEDICT THAT'S FOR SURE

BREAKFAST AIN’T EGGS BENEDICT FOR SURE

You can arise whenever you choose to
And that’s why I’m so jealous of you
You can eat whatever you pick out
As for my breakfast there ain’t any doubt

I know precisely what will be on my metal tray
Except sometimes it’s milk or water to start off my day
Your pantry is full of food I don’t even recall
As I use an old filthy tee shirt to keep me warm such as a shawl

Your lunchtime might be at that little tavern we know
But now my lunchtime is delivered row by row
That tavern was cozy and meant a lot to me
And so did my being free

But powder and pain brought me here
And here I’ll stay year after year
I receive opened and censored letters in my mail
The missives people send me here in jail
