Love

Love is a sweet old decade
passionfruit on the vine
flowers on a corner
made by grand design

Love it tastes like chocolate
French vanilla cream
a sparkling glass of vino
long days seem so serene

But love it has a season
and when its day is through
remember it for the good times
and look for love anew

Dedicated to the day

This is the dawning of
the Age of Aquarius, Age of Aquar...
..scratch.. enough of that record..
lets see, mmm Beach Boys..
Lets go surfing now, everybody's learning how....
..better.. uplifting...
hmm poetry time

When a man loves a woman
Can't keep his mind on nothin' else
He'd trade the world
For the good thing he's found

hmm sounds familiar, must have been done, lets try again

Baby, let's cruise, away from here
Don't be confused, the way is clear
And if you want it you got it forever
This is not a one night stand

... like it, surely that's original...

You'll never find, as long as you live
Someone who loves you tender like I do
You'll never find, on the graveyard shift
any dinner options, that aren't stew
doesn't take no imagination baby
to put together, some Mexi beans, yeah
whoa, whoa whoa whoa

enough rambling

where were we, ah yes serious poetry

Love for a Spanish girl

midnight in Madrid
castanet
bullfight dawn
the day we met
dark dark dark
gypsy eyes
moving like a tigress
flamenco cries
sailing like Columbus
on your ocean blue
take me around the world
such delights we knew

enough!

When thunder is about you

When lightning strikes the sodden trees
and bad weather does prevail
steer not from your chosen course
across the hills and dale

When thunder is about you
and the sky delivers hail
keep pace along the country lanes
despite the howling gale

In time the sun will shine again
there is no time to wail
for many a mile is still to go
be sturdy as a rail

My Guitar's Rubaiyat

I take up my guitar;- full of blue promise,-
As I remember you;- how much I miss;-
To find a chord,- (a favorite of mine);-
And strum down soft and think of first love's bliss.

As I work my way across the blues scale,-
Notes caress the air in sound's subtle veil;-
(In what was just before a hollow box);-
And maybe in the next world love won't fail?

I'm not drinking tonight;- my head is clear;-
When desire is gone,- there's neither love nor fear,-
(I used to drink alone most ev'ry night);-
To dream the dream of you;- when you were near.

Well,- love is true,- and love there still remains,-
In ashes now;- burnt by an old flame;-
(Caress of blues;- that now softly turns to jazz);-
I tell myself that first love's cut can heal again.

Many loves have come and gone;- yet there are none;-
That set as true in night as first love's sun;-
None I remember were as true as ours;-
My heart transported,- as my hand doth strum.

If tears were left,- then maybe I could cry;-
And lose my disappointment to the sky;-
(As jazz turns to blues,- then softly back again);-
If for just one night, you would now with me lie.

Though over time your memory doth fade;-
It's all I have;- the memories we made;-
As each new chord hangs softly in the air;-
This I recall;- as each blue note is played.

Pascal's Gambit Thrashed out (Kind of )

So sorry I was to see your pain,
Now things can’t be the same again,
So sorry was I to hear the news,
Fate is chosen, you do not choose.
So sorry to hear, a betting man will lose,
Men are betting, by praying in his pews,
So sorry to hear, if proved right you gain it all,
If you were wrong there is nowhere from which to fall.

So sorry to know Pascal’s Wager,
Its logical to bet even if insincere,
But there is a voice which may say,
Your insincerity will not gain you a place here.
If you bet and are proved right,
Happiness is the net gain,
If you bet and lose, you are no worse off,
So believe, even if you have to feign.

So sorry to hear the news,
You can bet and not lose,
But there is a sting in the tail,
If you are insincere you will fail.
So sorry to tell you,
God know public face and private mind,
There is only one way to get to heaven,
And that is by being and doing kind things. 23/03/19

“The argument that it is in one's own best interest to behave as if God exists, since the possibility of eternal punishment in hell outweighs any advantage in believing otherwise”. Blaise Pascal,

serpentine blue

from ridge to sea
sure drift of gulls
sea pilots
submarine view

a harlots nest
on a blood ocean
did you find me
valentine true

shoreline escape
to the wind
are we rising
serpentine blue

warm river winds
from the valleys
that knew us
crystalline hue

Ekphrastic afternoon

while sitting at a local literary Louvre
with artists and some other radicals
waiting for return of grammatical groove
that had left me on today's sabbatical

I stumbled for some heartfelt words
to share with you of artistic notions
of whether art is abstract or more absurd
can it cure our ills with colourful potions

and quietly the souls walked the walls
of painted lands and many female forms
to search their own inspiration's calls
outside their box of artistic norms

macroed with micro muted brush lines
of sultry legs and strong countenance
whatever treasure is sought we will find
with some ingrained artful provenance

like Samuel Morse as student of masters
copied Da Vinci from the Parisian museum
hued new light on Mona Lisa to recast her
and express his own artistic freedom

we give out hope of showing of ourselves
that bit of soul our heart holds close
down new pathways that we delve
our hands stretch toward divine, almost

Fame and Stardom

Attainment of success, stardom and fame
Remains the ultimate dream of many
Who seek the publication of their name
Upon the future pages of history

The journey to such a destination
Requires effort and dedication
Those who at last gain such recognition
Enjoy a well deserved satisfaction

Some celebrities who make this journey
Find coping with this new life can be rough
There's an invasion of their privacy
And the demands of stardom can be tough

They then turn to some drug to ease the stress
Whether it's alcohol or other stuff
Soon their entire life can become a mess
And dealing with it's pressures can be rough

Bouts of anxiety and depression
Are what they have to endure constantly
Some develop a serious addiction
That may lead to suicidial tendency

Women tend to choose a gentler ending
Like drug overdose or a means that's neat
Some may opt to end it all by hanging
Mindful not to mess up the body sheath

Some men go for a violent ending
By putting a bullet through their own head
Others jump off a bridge or tall building
Seeking to ensure that they will be dead

Those aspiring to fame and stardom
Pursue your dream and goal diligently
Just be mindful of how things can become
And seek to be guided accordingly

casing affections

whether in deep of dark
whether brightest of noonday
there's always eyes askance
casing out the come-what-may

checking angles broadly obtuse
to meaning of some stances
and other sideways glances
seeing what they can deduce

dressed in black sleek style
with shiny silent-soled shoes
steeling their desires awhile
looking affections to peruse

undecided won't be chided
on what may happen possibly
taking what comes in stride
capers can happen plausibly

who's the thief and who's
the hapless victim can be
in love's game hard to choose
pilfered affection too pat to see

yet if i am your prize you
might then surmise that i too
a second-story man pull a coup
to steal your heart, in full view

just be aware that life ain't fair
and goods are taken every day
some want more than a share
of hearts affections to take away

have you ever seen two slugs coppulate?

I MUST REMEMBER TO FORGET

I remember when you didn’t remember the time nor the place
I recall how you didn’t recall our first kiss and how it made your heart race
I know you’ve forgotten what you swore you’d never forget
And I know you didn’t know that I’ve loved you since the moment we first met

Simply to help your memory function well and be precise
You opined that if this is what forever is like you wanted a slice
Your words spoke softly of romance as well did your heart
And I’m certain you don’t recall promising to give me your all from the start

You can’t envision the first time I came into your vision
Or swearing to every god there is we will never suffer division
You swore we’d be one and never be done making each other’s heart race
Yet I remember our firsts of everything especially our first emphatic and embrionic embrace

You don’t understand that I still don’t understand why you had to go
I suppose to you our love became irrelevant and obsolete
that’s all I know
It’s sorrowful how fast a first can so easily become a last
And now years later all we are is part of each other’s past
