BED, BOOK AND HANDLE

SHE SAT ON HER BED, HE IN THE DEN
SHE WITH A BOOK, HE WITH A PEN
SHE WAS READING ABOUT LETHAL DRUGS AND THEIR USE
WHILE HE SAT WRITING A SINCERE YET FAR-FETCHED EXCUSE

SHE CAME DOWN AND SET THE TABLE
WHILE HE DID WHATEVER HE WAS ABLE
BOTH HAD SOMETHING TO SAY THAT WAS REAL
BUT FIRST THEY WOULD EACH SHARE A MEAL

A YOUNG ROASTED LAMB, PEAS AND CARROTS
AND THEN BOTH BEGAN TO SPEAK OF THEIR HABITS
HER'S WERE BENIGN BUT HIS WAS OF GREAT CONCERN
AND BOTH PARTNERS HAD A LOT TO LEARN

SHE HAD A PROBLEM WHICH HAPPENED TO BE HIM
AND HOW THEIR FUTURE SEEMED FAR TOO DIM
THEY USED SOME MONEY TO DRESS THE LADY WITH CHARM
SOME FOR RENT, FOOD AND THE REST TO SHOOT UP HIS ARM

UNFORTUNATELY THERE WOULD BE NO COMPROMISE
FOR SHE WAS INTELLIGENT, HE NOT QUITE AS WISE
SHE DEMANDED AN END TO HIS DRUG ABUSE
AND STOP USING THAT WHICH SHE DEEMED REFUSE

FOR TRASH IT WAS TO A LADY SO SWEET
BUT HE SO ACRID AND INDISCREET
SO BOTH CLIMBED THE STAIRS AND INTO THEIR ROOM
SHE TO PACK HER BAGS AND HE TO RESUME HIS DOOM

DIVERGENT NEEDS WOULD KEEP THEM APART
SHE SO SOFT AND HE WITH HIS HARDENED HEART
SHE PACKED HER BAGS AS HE USED THE BATHROOM BUT NOT AS A JOHN
THEN HE AROSE FROM THE TILE AND TURNED THE KNOB ONLY TO FIND HER GONE

IT HURTS TO RECOLLECT THIS SORDID STORY
AND UNFORTUNATELY IT WAS NO ALLEGORY
IF THE TRUTH BE TOLD IT WAS AGONY
FOR SHE WAS LOVELY SHE AND I WAS A DESPERATE ME

author's note....it is acceptable for James Taylor to rhyme Boston with frostin' because in song it sounds okay. However, when someone, no names mentioned, uses the word "oughter" and jams it into a poem to rhyme with "daughter" that person should take at least one year of Analytical Poetry (i took two) or abandon poetry for prose.....does anyone remember the word "order?" This is only my opinion and you can take it from whence it came. ~f.C.!~

DIET TRIBE

So two other junkies and me were standing on the corner of Main St. and Vine
Talking all kinds of bulls**t about this will be his and that will be mine
It was Steven, Michael and me threatening, cajoling and then making a demand
Steve looks in my direction and says “screw me once and I’ll lop off your hand, understand?

What neither of them knew was I didn’t invent being slick I just made it into an art form
Tonguing pills, hiding s**t, and waking up in the hospital ain’t the norm
“Yes nurse, and thank you for bringing me my pills”
Now get the hell out of my hospital room before your Florence Nightingale blood spills

Of course another O.D. was the reason I was there
And Doc said, with his best bestowed bedside manner, “perhaps I didn’t make myself quite clear”
“Listen, if you continue shooting dope the way you are now death could be imminent
Yeah Doc, well how about the fact that I’ve been daring death since I’m a f*****g infant

He continued with a diatribe I’ve heard from a tribe and lovers too
Of course you don’t think for a second any of them got through
My ears were closed as were the cerulean blue eyes through which I see
And as Steve did, I tell all my new acquaintances not to be f**king with me

So here we are back at the corner of Vine and Main
A corner, mind you, on which a few cohorts of mine have been slain
And then it was time for me to go meet Pedro inside
But the ending to this showdown was for disaster to decide

We’d all pooled our money together and came up with a hundred and five bucks
The connection was mine so I wasn’t worried about those two stupid f***s

I was going to get quite a bit for myself and the two fools downstairs wanted some more
But with due disrespect, those a**- h***s didn’t realize the tenement had an open back door

Leaves That Are Green

A young bud sprouts from its parent plant
and blossoms to a lovely rose before long
With time, its beauty fades and it dries up
and the leaves that are green turn to brown

A young sapling takes root and flourishes
Soon a mighty oak stands firm on the ground
With time, it decays to a dried up old tree
and the leaves that are green turn to brown

A baby bird sitting helplessly in its nest
grows into a majestic eagle strong
With time, its glory fades as it ages
and the leaves that are green turn to brown

A defenceless lion cub hidden in its lair
matures into the mightiest beast around
With time, he becomes a decrepit old male
and the leaves that are green turn to brown

A beautiful angelic darling baby girl
becomes a world beauty and wins the crown
With time, wrinkles and old age take their toll
and the leaves that are green turn to brown

Hello to a new life of hope and promise
Goodbye to a life that's now going down
Time marches on irreversibly
and the leaves that are green turn to brown

The Wheel Of Life

The wheel of life keeps turning every day
Birth, life and then the subsequent decay
All living things must return whence they came
The pattern always remaining the same

All living things start life's journey at birth
Become adult through the process of growth
They then participate in reproduction
Thus creating the next generation

Life then continues daily in this world
Until old age and illness take their toll
Lastly, all must face death's reality
That brings a final end to life's journey

The wheel goes through a full revolution
With each and every new generation
Whatever is alive will someday die
This will surely happen as time goes by

nowhere to be found

the other day i stumbled upon
something i'd been trying awhile,
to find but it was contingent on
my memory being more versatile

to where it was when last seen
by me or anyone else i think,
not right or left but in between,
recalled location my missing link

with much glee i picked it up and
my palm turned and rolled it around
what occurred after memory offhand
said it was nowhere to be found

Stuck in Snowville

Trudged outside to drive to work
Warmed the car and applied some torque
Wheels spinning and going nowhere
Except downwards until I didn't care

Seems I'm stuck I saddly lamented
A mild spell made snow soft I vented
What should I do now I thought
Phone in to work and explain I ought

Whatever will I do with myself today
For in my house I am forced to stay
Well I'll happily while away the hours
Go to PC before my disposition sours

A happy place where I may jest and fun
Somewhere they laugh at my bad puns
A place where people always lend a hand
No buried heads in the pages or the sand

A wondrous place of creativity and mirth
Simply not like any other on this earth
Where kindness and sympathy abides
Understanding as constant as the tides

A place where the sun is always shining
They gladly listen to my constant wining
A place where people are reaching out
Sanctuary where I can scream and shout

Now that I've got your attention
Glorified all as helpful by intention
Do you consider it less than absurb
Could you all push my car past the curb??

from MONKEY bars TO BARS

COOKIES, MILK, MONKEY BARS AND GUNS

We helped lay the foundation for your factories~
Then fought with enmity against your enemies~
We rode the rails to another pristine city or town~
And now thanks to our pollution the rivers are burnt sienna brown~

We populated your cities with children you could not feed~
So we tried to feed them with nutrition and railed against greed~
We filled the school houses with pupils and play time fun
But now too many of them stroll into school packing a gun

They listen to songs sung backwards for a hint or a clue
As prosecutors and juries wonder why they do what they do
They do what they do because sorrow and hatred prevail
And not only them but most of us are all doomed to fail

For all of us with certainty certainly will fall
Because too few of us will stand straight, stalwart and tall
Then millions of students rush out after the dismissal bell
As some godless adults set an open course destined for Hell

forgive

for give, for giving
the whole world seems
forgiven for living
these ends to extremes

for give me mine
indiscretions that
seemed so benign
i nearly fell flat

forgive me my will
that hard hit the wall
hardened me until
i forgot to recall

for give ruled golden
those marking my way
to many beholding
indebted to repay

forgive petty tiffs
words carelessly blurted
would take back if
not mindlessly inserted

forgive for deceiving
those loved the most
close bonds bereaving
pride left to boast

forgive me my pride
that brought to the brink
in cold heart to abide
hardened armor to chink

forgiving and forgetting
letting bygones be bygones
setting aside regretting
merciful pardon undergone

for give, to live
free from our angst
amongst the living
forgive to give thanks

Holiday Without Tears

Glorious days together spent
In seasons twice together.
One in summer's final days
And one in cooler weather.

One upon an Isle of green
And one beside the sea.
One in your own homeland
And one spent here with me.

The sweetness of our holidays
So swiftly did they fly,
Was tempered twice by parting
With a teardrop in the eye.

Another span together comes
As winter blusters in.
And a holiday of precious love
We shall enjoy again.

But this time will be different
As our holiday draws nigh.
For when I'm back to work next time
We'll have no cause to cry.

There will not be an airport scene
As you or I must leave
For we'll remain together
With no time apart to grieve.

The tears will be deferred this time;
A winter of respite
For not until the spring begins
Will I see you to your flight.

And though that day will surely come
I know for all our years
We'll one day be united
In a life with no more tears.

About this poem:
Though once again parting will be inevitable, we'll have so much more time together and when it comes, it will be just another milestone marking the approach of a life where we can be together forever.
