To Our Lady Diana

You are a mother and a Christian soldier
Always ready to stand up for another
You have made your mark here on Poetry Corner
With your cheerfulness, wit and sense of humour

Your poetry displays a deep sincerity
That's a projection of your inner beauty
We know you have your responsibility
And we wish you will always be happy

like wildfire

like gossip, love's epidemiology
causal, a vector rampant spreading
has another uncontrolled physiology
a loving caring directional heading

love can't grow in a Petri dish
unless you're an amoeba or other cell
if agape's agar to feed, would wish
then i'd suppose it could, as well

diseased with affection and devotion
the prognosis a fortunate telling
incurable in time, your love's emotion
opportunistic transmission compelling

we could seclude with quarantine
but why would we want to isolate
and keep inside of what i mean
an infective germ so obviously great

to catch a love disease, not so good
on some picnic blanket by river of love
as catching love to be, could, would
with your desire of desires, free of

animosity for all of sentient beings
to less thinking with other leanings
hard to be unaffected when all around
everyone, everything is happily bound

one to another and each bound to all
devotedly catching incurable contagion
laughing 'til crying and having a ball
loving each other, and all civilization

what a lovely way we could live life
if we could forgive and forget our ire
without avarice, worry, or greedy strife
just let the love spread like wildfire

just once I'll feel love

just once I'll feel love
until then I'll just wait
sitting patiently, sort of
trying to self-actuate

once hope reigns it's hopeless
no need to cast love aside
catch a lightness to possess
enchanting oneness a rising tide

I'll dig holes for your treasure
'til my hands all calloused and raw
leave lid of chest to open pleasure
let aloneness be a forgotten flaw

feel my way into hearts chamber
each beat another rush of life
ever closer to life's remainder
living begins when hearts derive

love in all it's myriad forms
overt or subtle in it's display
vales are lifted and we transform
enclosed with love, our own cliché

Nature's Lullaby

Gazing upward into the night
The stars are twinkling in the sky
Painting a very peaceful sight
As time goes slowly drifting by

The moon is quietly glowing
Amid the darkened clouds around
Her soft light is most comforting
Gently bathing things on the ground

The night air is cool and soothing
Like a balm to a weary soul
I feel it as I am breathing
Calming me and making me whole

Now I feel a quiet delight
After gazing at the night sky
I shall sleep peacefully tonight
Caressed by Nature's Lullaby

BACKBIRD BYE BYE

BACKBIRD BYE BYE

The morning dew was blue that morn
Purple was the lawn
The clouds threatened an angry sky
As the sun watched the moon finally die

The birds flew backwards instead of ahead
While the waves of the sea were made of lead
A tree arose and began to walk away
When dreams of darkness turned night into day

The majesty of music lost its muse
And each note had a black and blue bruise
No symphonies played nor choirs sung
No lyrics of love to float off my tongue

I beheld the amber shadows no longer so glamorous
But the buttercups remained ever amorous
‘twas a morn born and birthed of sorrow
And all a man like me can do is pray there arrives no tomorrow

My First Time

My friend had introduced us,
That crisp late autumn day.
He'd told me she was easy,
Would let me have my way.

But she was babysitting,
Her younger brothers, three.
Had to wait until they slept,
Before she would be free.

So we necked a little while,
My hands went roaming round.
I got so damned excited,
My heart began to pound.

Then the kids came in from play,
We quickly jumped apart.
She made us all some hotdogs,
I tried to slow my heart.

When she put the kids to bed,
We necked again some more.
She checked in then after while,
They had begun to snore.

So I took her by the hand,
To lead her off to bed.
She hesitated then cause,
They may wake up, she said.

I swept her up in my arms,
And carried her to lay,
Upon the bed so sweetly.
Then closed the door to play.

The condom that I carried,
I slipped on inside out.
Of course it slipped right off,
Oh such a clumsy lout.

Was over in a moment,
My trigger was so prime.
But hey give me a break now,
It was just my first time.

About this poem:
True story. Kathy was fourteen and experienced. I was eighteen and green. Fortunately, she didn't get pregnant. Her mom came home later and Kathy walked me to the car, then I realized I had left my wallet in the bedroom when I got the condom out. She went back in to get it and after a couple of minutes her mom called out, "What color is it?" I managed to choke out, "Black." Kathy came out with it a moment later. I asked her what she had told her mom and she said that the kids were playing hide and seek with it. lol

On LDRs

Long distance can cause compications,
And problems with communications.
Getting to know each other and such,
Harder without the taste, smell and touch

Cyber-romances can work out well,
But then again, they may be just Hell.
It all depends on those on the line,
If they are honest, things can be fine.

If you are pure and earnestly true,
Long distance romance can work for you.
Lay it all out, straight out from the front,
You just may find the one that you want.

But if you deceive, misrepresent,
Then things take on a sinister bent.
Things get all tangled, up in the lies,
When there is falsehood, somebody cries.

Getting to know each other online,
It's only normal, this day and time.
But play it straight, believe me it pays,
Honesty's best in these passion plays.

Covid-19

In-person meetings suspended
Conference rooms closed to use
By keeping a 6-foot distance
everyone stays apart—not aloof.

Blues, folk, rock concerts rescheduled
Museums closed to showing art
Theatre not performed on stages
Citizens asked to do their part.

Flattening-the-curve approach required
But when our leaders fail to lead
people are driven to poor decisions
and takers feed upon their greed.

Shelves in stores stripped to empty
Essentials horded, stock-piled away
Preparing for the worst to come
Hoping to be spared anew each day.

Public schools closed until April
Red Sox Opening Day postponed
Weighing decisions to self-isolate
with every day to be spent alone.

Boston Marathon moved to September
Walk for Hunger canceled complete
Needs in air still hover, linger though
movement ceased beneath our feet.

With tents as makeshift hospital wards
first-come-first-served policy goes out the door
Triage decisions necessary to be made
disproportionally impact the poor.

Forego cavalier, casual attitudes
Avoid need for imminent, acute care
There are vulnerable people everywhere
Covid-19 travels through touch and air.

Individual freedom temporarily bartered
to provide better protection for everyone
Embrace physical-distancing as one way
war against this pandemic can be won.

2_0_1_1

Another year all shiny new,
What will it bring? How will we do?
Will there be fame and fortune great?
Will all our troubles then abate?

Some moan and wail in sad lament,
About time wasted, poorly spent.
Oh how has all our precious time,
Gone up in smoke while we reclined?

The past is past no need to cry,
Don't waste your tears or even sigh.
With each new dawn new hopes arise,
In every night stars fill our skies.

Let this year bring good times to all,
Peace and comfort on each befall.
May love be strong and pure and true,
My fervent wish to all of you.
