All the above ,including the ability to know how to re-anew your relationship,by being spontaneous from time to time.- Like saying lets get away this weekend,or lets get out for dinner.JMO
I'd like to believe that it is one or all of the above but the observational data suggests otherwise.
It seems, to me, that relationship success (if you measure success by longevity, which not everyone does) depends on one thing only - compatibility.
All the really successful relationships I know of seem to involve two partners of diametrically opposite mindsets and that invariably means that one partner gives more and one takes more. One tends to be more aggresive and one more passive. One more outgoing and one more introverted.
I think that it is one of nature's ways of installing some crucial psychological diversity in our species.
I don't know many senior couples which exhibit seemingly perfect balance in their key psyche indicators. I kinda does look like opposites attract if you observe older couples closely and I guess if you are serious about finding Mr. or Mrs. Right for you, you might want to consider giving yourself and all your potential suitors psychometric testing. Its freely available on the net.
There can never perfect harmony. One must give and take and acknowledge the others attempts wither they are successful or not. Life after all is about the journey so what fun would it be in a boring straight road that never has anything going on :)
I think there should be a combination of all the things that you mentioned. If I have to pick one thing that would be the most important in keeping a relationship healthy...I'd say being honest. Of course, being committed to one person and one person only.
felixis99: oh gosh yes! don't I know that is the beginning of the end! I love someone who can bring a smile to my face (and later a smile to the rest of me)
