anonymous1: .I think Snowden is a hero.I think his concience was so offended, that he acted without any thought for his future. He is like a big hearted fool, no chess player... he is smart, but kinda' like an idiot savant... he was smart enough to get a good job, and smart enough to tell the world that the US, was violating our rights, and to open up a violation of our 4th amendment right to scrutiny... but he wasn't smart enough to plan a get away.He reminds me of the movie, Mr. Smith goes to Washington, with Jimmy Stewart. Overwhelmed by hypocrisy, and corruption, unable to keep his mouth shut, and profit... and unable to win against the bad guys in government, even though he wore himself out from trying.I wish Snowden all the best, and hope he isn't too disillusioned by the world he finds himself in... I understand, people like him tend to die in Siberia, if they talk about Russian poiticians, like he's talked about ours... of course, my only source of knowledge about this, is known to lie, cheat, steal, kill, and sell cocaine to our children in public schools, to buy arms for Iranians, all in secret.... for propaganda purposes.
good for your opinion - of course it is sure different than mine and your American government......
It was not that he was smart it was that he acted in a criminal manner. for some guy that thinks he is "whistle-blowing" and "exposing" the truth to the world... he sure had a funny way of doing it. He could have done it the "right" way....
I find it offensive to refer to him as a "Jimmy Stewart - Mr. Smith goes to Washington".....
I am not going to comment if he is a patriot or a traitor. I will leave that for the americans.
But the latest news are disturbing, as "Glenn Greenwald, the Guardian journalist who first published the documents Snowden leaked, said in a newspaper interview published on Saturday that the U.S. government should be careful in its pursuit of the former computer analyst.
"Snowden has enough information to cause harm to the U.S. government in a single minute than any other person has ever had," The U.S. government should be on its knees every day begging that nothing happen to Snowden, because if something does happen to him, all the information will be revealed and it could be its worst nightmare."
This is disturbing. what kind of information "could be its worst nightmare to US?". and it is not just for US, but also to the all democratic countries (especially western) as US represents/represented freedom to the world.

Just read the financial statement of the subcontract of the NSA that snowden worked for .....
the NSA needs to sanction that stinking subcontractor..... that subcontractor reported a couple of billion of operating capital..... in 2013....
The real question could be in why the Country's National Security Agency outsources it work force that did not effectively screen it's employees....

I see quite a few questions besides " screen it's employees".
First, why subcontract?.. it does not make sense.
second, any government is not "them", but it is suppose to represent us. I would agree that the government has the right to hold some information secret in the name of national security. however, it is essential to keeping government activity within its constitutional bounds. this is impossible when no one knows what the government does, including congress.
third, NSA has repeatedly lied to Congress about the its surveillance. so if "they" can lie to congress, what else are "they" doing?

JeanKimberley: ooopss... now the Bolivian President has gone crying the U.N.... boohoo, boohoo.
politics IS a very ugly business.....
the latest is that Putin said he'll take Snowden if he stops leaking more information that hurts the American people....
come this way comrade Snowden
Politics is a very ugly business and I am glad you realise that. But what amazes me is you seem to have a very blinkered view and you don't realise it.
When the US forces a diplomats plane to land so it can be searched you call it "politics" but when another country gives Snowden some protection you scream from the roof tops. Is that not just "POLITICS" too? Or is the US the only one allowed play the game dirty?

Ummm yeah, good for you for your opinion too, even thugh it's wrong.
First off I don't see how he could have done it the "right way" unless he did things as he did. If he had gone through the usual channels at work, or elsewhere, anything he said would have been buried, or dismissed, as per protocol.
Second, where do you see this as hurting the "American people", in any way, other than a few corporations that may not have the unfair advantage of "privelaged" knowledge they may have had previously?
If American corporations can't succeed in a fair manner, as in capatalism, then maybe they should fail. Although, I guess nothing is fair in that system, including disposing of unfair practices by government agencies on behalf of private enterprise.
It seems like the makings for more banana republics, although, they could be anything from fruit to diamonds, and oil.
You justify this all as politics, an ugly business, or game. So, how do you defend yourself, as a now American, former Canadian, and looking to be a Scot, as someone faithful to any form of allgience or loyalty, let alone any credibility?
Maybe, just maybe, you should think of what's right and wrong, instead of waving the flag of whatever country of choice you happen to live in presently is.
when a person thinks about ideas like "freedom of information" or "spying" or "loyalty" then general comments are posted about where that persons stands on the ideal concepts - and real life situations don't always match the "ideal" concepts.
when it applied to a situation as in Snowden and his actions and how it is seen by the world around and in America - which includes people's bias and their belief system.
USA government has charged Snowden with espionage and revoked his passport -
the Russian spies are interesting in offering him asylum.... he ultimately wants to go to South America to any country most interested in hurting the American people -

I think you would be one of those people with the most biased opinion.
He wants to go to South America as it is his best bet at staying out of the US governments hands. He knows there will not be an extradition treaty with those countries any time soon. So he is trying to stay out of prison for the rest of his life for telling the world the US is spying on them. Including US allies.
As has been said before...if he was from Russia or China he would be a hero in your eyes for doing this.
When the US made a government jet land to it could be searched you called it politics and said politics is dirty. Well what is happening with Snowden is politics now but you want him to travel back to the US and play fair. You can't have it both ways!
I find it funny to be called a fascist by some....hillbilly.... who thinks he in his own little universe stands for freedom.... when his own opinions voiced in the forums are often attacks on others.
and it is equally interesting for forum peeps to attack my comments and my opinion instead of sticking to the issue and theme of the thread.

If others feel thst your comments and your opinion are wrong, in regards to the thread, why would you think you should be excluded from criticism?
You've yet to explain how the American people will be hurt by Snowden, and pretty much ignored any other questions, comments, and yet you continue to post in this thread. Worse yet, you continue to criticise others, for their posts.
How is it that laws should be more important than morality?
How is it that you feel you can spew on a forum, yet offer no explantions, or not show any accountability or resposibility for your comments?
If Snowden or Assange were really doing anything contrary to the plans of the powers-that-be we wouldn't even know their names. If they are in the news, it's because they are being intentionally promoted.
They are as much a part of the delusion plot as Obama, Bush, Bin Laden, or the media newscasters.
Sometimes the old order is just too decrepit and corrupt and its crimes are too massive and evident to ever allow whitewashing to occur.
At such times the financial powers stage a social revolution and put in a new set of squeaky-clean puppets. And that involves setting up some opposition leaders, heroes, and spokespeople beforehand so that there is never any danger of losing control.
Everything is highly mediatized of course so that the sheeple know who their new designated leaders are.
I'm guessing you've chosen that avenue of criticism because I reside in louisiana, but I grew up and lived the majority of my life in the suburbs of connecticut so... swing and a miss
Have you captured snowden yet jean? What, you haven't? Awwww, that's too bad

Snowden has been given temporary asylum in Russia , Obama now not keen to have his meeting with Putin . Seems to me that Obama has more to loose from not meeting Putin . Or put it this way what the fec do the Russians have to gain by meeting Obama . Washington does not have the moral high ground, that's been given to Moscow .Ironic is it not .

it's the american people and the russian people who will suffer because of obama's obstinence. Why should obama care? He's finishing his second term and only concerned with pleasing his corporate oligarch masters to ensure his retirement is comfortable
The united states used to offer asylum to soviet defectors during the cold war, and I think we were right to do so. But now the shoe is on the other foot and the whitehouse is embarassed by it
Moscow has had the moral high ground over washington on a number of issues if you ask me
robplum: Bush instigated the extent of spying on not only other countries but the American people, so be politics in it you can bet on tat
Last time I checked, the name of the present Occupant of the WH is Barack Hussein Obama! He could have most of it repealed early in his first term when the Democrats controlled House and Senate! Nope,Barry does own this present Mess!
Cute? I think you need glasses. He looks anemic to me, thin lips, kinda nerdy. But I'm not a chic so what do I know what they perceive as good looking?
JeanKimberley: just like Jullian Assange.... these type of people get a mob behind them - they hide behind idealists who think they are supporting "freedom" and it is a great big lie.
But everyone has an opinion, everyone loves to champion a cause.
Facts - Snowden took an oath and a job to protect information and he shared it when it wasn't his to share and it wasn't his information. He needs to return to the USA and be accountable for his actions.

Wow!
That's interesting; would you please name them, and tell us what whistle they blew?
I would like to be able to speak on this subject with more understanding.
