I was married to a very lovely woman. It was the best 18 years of my life until cancer took her. I still miss her terribly. It took 15 years of dating dozens to find her. I anticipate it may do the same before the next one is found. That is okay. I am patient. laugh

I believe in a marriage and family life if we lived in a ideal world but it's not that way anymore.

handshake I think those days are behind us. Our current decade reminds me of the 70s on steroids and the 70s decade was a “Me” generation.

Same here Ken. My wife of ~18 years past from cancer in 2002. Denial was a biotch but I’ve been living in the present for some time now hoping someone else suitable will like my ugly self. Anymore, I make a lot of noises while I eat. Maybe that’s my problem today.......wave

I have family, but I've never been married.

It pisses me off when people think the two are mutually exclusive.

My daughter was fifteen before someone referred to us as a family.

We were both overwhelmed and deeply moved by such a small, but pertinent recognition.

Family is so much more than you suggest here in this thread.

I believe in whatever suits the person, or couple involved.

Some want marriage, good for them.

Some live together quite harmoniously without any need of legal documentation

Some don't live together but are blissfully happy

Some are single, some are gay, some are transgender, some are heterosexual

I am happy if they are happy, even if their choice isn't my choice .

I’m not the best communicator but I’m really shocked at your response, Jac, because my op states just the opposite of what you suggest I suggest....”How many still believe in Marriage and Family life, like Ozzie and Harriet portrayed on tv?”

They probably got along so well cause they slept in different beds ost of the time.

Ozzie and Harriet Nelson are a little confusing. Their show, The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet ran 1952-1966. We saw them with both twin beds and on occasion a double bed. A Day in Bed, Season 4, Episode 21, airing March 23, 1956 shows that they had a double bed but we don't necessarily see them in it.The most his wife does is sit beside him.

I like molly’s comment and think there’s lots of choices, all good.

On a personal side, I prefer a relationship where roles are clearly defined, there’s a shared commitment to the Us, no marriage license required.

Me too
And i think " Family " is not specific people who having a blood line or biological connection with us, but people who care for us love us uncondionally and understand us and be with us in happy and sadness time, when we in trouble their presence make us strong. I can say my best friend also is a part of my life, they are ny family too

with transparency and honesty, find the type of relationship that matches.
and be committed to the relationship rather than committed to self. what you focus on is what you get. looking within the relationship or looking outside the relationship will inform one of their intentions.

i think marriage should be updated to the majority.

and that means divorce should be standard option.

So i would suggest marriage is a 3 year contract, silently renewed.

Hopefully people would treat each other better when they know they can't take it for granted.

If people took a minute of their time to ask themselves "How do a I make my partner feel?" there would probably be more happy relationships.
We do take it all for granted like Len said...and that often becomes the shallow excuse when we've messed up everything...
