I may complain about every bird in Spain coming to sing under my window at dawn but the hadeda is the bagpipes of the bird world, especially when a flock of them catch a skrik at 5 am about 10 feet away -
Not going back to comment on old blog(s) because I have written so many lately but thanks for comments left and and of course wishing and and maybe some togetherness for my favourites. Some favourites are starting into 2019 on a high, and some on a definite low, and some who would like it to continue just as it is, ta.
All that 2018 had had, had had no real effect - new approach needed going forward
if 2019 can bring us not what we want so much as what we need, it will be doing very nicely indeed
I'll have you know the original of this, although the author's name had not yet been told to us, is being treated as absolute genius and I did think it was a bit brilliant myself when I read it - like turning life upside down and looking at it again in a different light.
But here on CS even though it is in italics it's assumed Biff wrote it and is having a bit of a meltdown I shall have to edit and make it clear it is Someone Else's Writing and therefore Safe To Appreciate
But good editing turns your book into the book you intended to write. An unedited book is obvious from the first page, the first paragraph, which is usually as much as a reader gives it before they drop it and back away.
A truly great book can be ruined by poor or no editing A mediocre book can become great
And there are thousands of chancers out there promising miracles ...
Methuzelah, there is a great deal of very bad writing breaking all 10 rules with gusto and bought eagerly by millions. There is some perfect writing with every single rule followed to the letter but the end result is too dreary and pedantic to read. Most stuff falls somewhere in between and this blog is just a bit of fun.
BTW - precious few indies are millionaires because promotion promotion promotion is such a huge factor but if you burn for the satisfaction of your book in your own hands, and to leave a brick in the wall, you can do 90% of that yourself and it costs you nothing but time and buying the book off the website when finished.
If you want to reach others, you really should pay for professional editing - no-one serious edits their own work - but the end result should always be worth it.
Sorry that went all serious for a minute! Back to the bleeding blog boyos
Harbal, well, he's good company with an excellent eye for a bargain, especially on products I, remember, never even heard of. STILL learning my way round. And neither of us have to pay for the other's, that's a huge factor.
I think I shopped twice with my hubby while married and yup, we bickered the whole way round. He held that price (as low as possible) was more important than taste, so I would put in the good stuff and he would surreptitiously take it out and put in the cheap stuff and WHOOF tension in aisle 3. All Gold Tomato sauce vs P&P own brand - well, that's the difference between a sauce that tastes like fresh tomatoes and one that is gloopy dyed euch. plus he spent hours calculating which size was cheaper by volume.
So I shopped alone. And I am strapped for cash and he is very rich. There's a lesson there somewhere.
(I say 'ironically Noritaki, I do know it is Japanese not Chinese! but you would have thought far easier to get than Royal Doulton ...)
Methuzelah, or Korean, or Japanese - time for the western world to take a grip and start competing, though.
Fiorenza, I have a buddy who was raised by a dotty aunt who insisted a Christmas tree HAD to be stolen, you couldn't buy one, you had to find a wild one and cut it down, or sneak into a plantation and steal one. That was their Christmas Eve tradition, steal a tree.
pK I rather like the Japanese "community first" ethic myself but yes, China is blazing quite a trail at this time.
LJ, old decorations are the best, especially the lopsided ones that came home from kindergarten and are still appearing on the tree 30 years later
