Thanks Conrad, I didn't see that.

RE: Obama for Presidnet!.....Heptachromic

Theoretically yes, but there doesn't seem to be much wheat during this election season. All are doing nothing more than playing lip service to what the American public wants to hear on most issues. Some do it more than others. I don't know how massive the heart attack would be should one of these guys actually tell the truth.

RE: Obama for Presidnet!.....Heptachromic

That's a good question. The election process is long in the US and there is a lot of attention on it but I think the length is based the size of the country and the amount of money politicains are willing to spend to get their messages/lies out. The elections go every 4 years vice 5 years (for President) but the election season, primaries and general election lasts for a year. The primaries seem to take up the most time. The current battle between Obama and Clinton is a perfect example of the political power struggles even within the parties.

People are interested because of the inpact or influence the US has on other parts of the world. Of course other countries have impact as well but everyone seems to be really interested in US politics. I'm sure the Iraq war, economics and the war in Afghanistan are all big factors as well

I made a post a few months back regarding the Malta elections. I thought they were great. The campaigning lasted only a short period of time (3 -4 months) and the political rallies (about 2 - 3 weeks) Things were kept pretty tame but the thing that really impressed me were the voting percentages. People really participated rather than just talking about it.

Well enough. Enjoy the beautiful day which is now here. I'm heading for the beach.

RE: Obama for Presidnet!.....Heptachromic

Good point Dude. Unfortunately Al Gore's lifestyle and his rhetoric on global warming do not match. If he really wants to fight global warming he would give up all that excessive consumption and quit blowing all his hot air into the atmosphere. Neither is helping

RE: Obama for Presidnet!.....Heptachromic

I don't think he'll be able to square that one up Indy. But it does seem as though he has stated Obama has made a mistake in disowning Rev Wright. Heck, let's just cede this arguement to Dude and agree that Wright is a good guy and Obama made a mistake in disowning him. laugh

RE: I Have The Hots For The UPS Man

Most of us are like that..laugh

I think I would just ask

RE: do you think pot (weed) is good or bad

I'm pretty thick sometimes. I never made that connection with your name and pot or Roy Orbison but now that you mention it...

Could have used your wisdom on smoking when I was younger. Like I said, I'm pretty thick sometimes but I do eventually catch on. 6 weeks and counting...

RE: do you think pot (weed) is good or bad

Yeah, I'll pass. I feel paranoid enough already.. laugh Besides, I don't think my motabalism can handle too many bouts with the munchies.

RE: Obama for Presidnet!.....Heptachromic

Opal, I am in the military so this has significant meaning to me. If captured I would want to be treated and cared for within the guidelines of the Geneva convention. In Iraq, I think you and I can agree that would not happen and you would be able to catch my decapitation on TV or hear about the discovery of my body parts found scattered along the road somewhere. This ofcourse is barbaric but that's the kind of people we're dealing with.

That leaves us with a choice. We can behave like them or we can operate within the parameters of the Geneva convention and the Code of Conduct. I would choose to treat enemy combatants fairly. Now, I can't honestly say what I would do in a given situation, in the heat of battle but I would try to keep that in mind as I believe all our forces do.

But your question is more geared towards GITMO, waterboarding and other questioning techniques along with John McCain's support of certain techniques, correct? Then the answer is no, I don't believe we should be doing that and it's something I disagree with McCain on. They may have found some way for it to "legally" take place due to the status of the detainees but even if they did, I don't believe it should be happening. What takes place in the heat of battle is one thing, what happens in the relative calm of a detention facility is quite another. And even if the enemy isn't playing by our rules, we should continue to play by our rules.

RE: Obama for Presidnet!.....Heptachromic

Opal,

Do I have a family member who I tolerate? That's a faulty delima or comparison because Wright is not a member of Obama's family. But to answer your question, I have relatives that could be classified as card carry members of the white sheet brigade but I do not deal with them nor do I tolerate them and they know where I stand so I am classified along with the others they hate. I have other I disagree with on some issues but I think that's pretty normal.

I wonder if the story you heard about Obama's reasoning for seeking out Wright is accurate. Do you think he really sought out a particular chuch or church leader because they somehow had political clout? It wouldn't be the first time this has taken place and it wont be the last but that's a pretty poor reason (if accurate) for someone wanting to attend a certain church or become close with a certain minister. I think reasoning like that would not shine a positive light on his moral character or judgement.

I hope this is incorrect and I hope this idea dies here and now because it would do nothing more than encourage those who would love to dive into the "Obama is really a Muslim" conspiracy. A theory as you know that I believe to be utter BS.

RE: So I thought I'd bought a house

Congratulations,

The writers cramp is just anothre price we pay for home ownership. Enjoy your new house.

RE: do you think pot (weed) is good or bad

Never smoked it as a kid. I had an older brother that did and he couldn't control himself very well. Kept trying stronger and stronger drugs until it really screwed him up. So my experimentation as a teenager was thwarted out of fear. Probably a smart thing too since my family tree is full of easily addicitive people.

As an adult, I've always been in a job that does drug testing and it's not worth losing my job. I used to say the moment I retire I was going to go buy some just to see what the thrill was but I've gone without for this long, I guess I can do without till the end.

RE: Obama for Presidnet!.....Heptachromic

It's been mentioned in these threads before that the DNC should have worked with those states to come to a solution and vice versa. Whether the tables would have been turned in favor of Clinton or not is moot at this point since those two state's citizens don't get a say in who their candidate is. This potentially will have a negative impact on the eventual nominee. I'm not from either of those 2 states so it doesn't concern me but if I had my vote taken away, I would be pissed off. No telling what they (the voters) will do, if anything but it could be bad.

This is of course not Obama's or Clinton's fault. This is the party in general and the DNC more specifically. It is interesting however how both Clinton and Obama have tried to fight for those state's rights to vote or not fought. I guess it all depends on where one is in the standings and those people are smart enough to figure that out.

Hmmmmm 1790 vs 1970. Maybe he's dyslexicdunno

In this case I think it's selective. laugh

Dude will believe what he wishes to believe regardless of the facts.

RE: Obama for Presidnet!.....Heptachromic

Tom,

I'm only going to comment on a couple of these points because it's late and I need some sleep.

Reagrding Dude, I think he is Obama's worst enemy. I only wish he could come over here and help Obama with his campaign.. laugh

Regarding the democratic process, Yes, I think it was a big mistake to not find a solution to Florida's and Michingan's primary dates. It's too late for that now because a vote now would do nothing more than prolong the race as I believe most of each state is more tuned to Hillary. Heck, if they had gone in the order they wanted to go, there may be a completely different primary standing today but that's just speculation. What isn't speculation is that there are a lot of pissed off people in Michigan and Florida and there's no telling how they're going to give the big F%^$ You to the DNC come election time. That and the division of the democratic party because of this prolonged fight between the two is making it more and more probable that they will not be able to unite before the election. If they don't, they will lose regardless of the candidate.

Yes, seems to me that if they can't do something as simple as have all their states participate in the primaries I question their ability to run the government. Not that the government is being ran all that great at the moment.

Well... I'm off.. Later...

RE: Obama for Presidnet!.....Heptachromic

Oooops, didn't see the TT comment until after I posted this.... Sorry

RE: Obama for Presidnet!.....Heptachromic

Hi Anjel
If your post was meant for me I have already provided facts and copies of the text from the Constitution for Dude in a previous Obama thread. We have beat this dog till it's dead and if Dude lacks the ability or willingness to accept the truth or even look it up for himself then I'm wasting no more time with it.

Regarding Obama, I do not care where Obama went to school, where he has lived in the past, what color his parents are and I do not believe the rumors and accusations regarding him being a Muslim. I have never defamed the man on those issues and have in fact corrected or at least rebutted those who do because it's not right and it's not fair.

I do take however take exception to his poor judgement in the Rev Wright scandal, the realestate issue and the Chicago hospital employment and payments of his spouse. These concerns are based on public records which are easy enough to access Especially the payments made to Mrs. Obama by her employer. Finally, and I think most importantly, I believe Obama is pulling the wool over people's eyes when it scomes to his stance on the war. If you haven't yet, I suggest you take a real close look at his plans to end the war in Iraq. It's on his web site and if you look closely, I believe you'll understand what I'm talking about. Finally, I question his leadership ability or lack thereof. This is ofcourse only my opinion.

RE: Obama for Presidnet!.....Heptachromic

Again Dude... READ - This is what I said:

Both McCain and Obama were born as US citizens. Both are, have been and more than likely will be US citizens for the rest of their lives. Both are eligible to be President, end of story. How many times must we visit this issue. No law has been chaged to help either.

And NO, it would not make any difference whatsoever if Obama were born under the same circumstances as McCain. He, like McCain would be eligible.

From your posts it clear you believe there are some idiots in the United States but I'll you there are not nearly enough to allow someone to run for President if he or she were not eligible under the Constitution.

Further, I can read and understand things for myself. It's there in black and white for you to read too. It just takes a little effort and an open mind. And before you say it, NO there was no ammendment to the Constitution made so that John McCain or anyone else could run for President.
