RE: GOD V RELIGION

Thanks, I really do believe that most have somethng to contribute regardless of "formal" education level. I learn something new everyday from these and similar forums

RE: The Bucket List

Yes it is. Perhaps it just because it keeps us from eating too much popcorn.. laugh

RE: GOD V RELIGION

I found teachers/professors in subjects like philosophy, religeon, politics, psychology, etc.. to bring into the classroms their own beliefs and stress those as the only right answer. They would choose books and assignments to match their own positions. I also found some students punished for having different opinions. (Sometimes this was done by public ridicule and sometimes by grades or both) There was not much learning other than memorization for the purpose of taking exams.

Overall, I was very disappointed in the experiance. I believe this was because I had always held those with college degrees in higher esteem and intelligence than myself. Silly yes, but beng a person who could not attend college until I was nearly 30 had always left me with a nagging feeling that I was not as smart as other people who completed college. I found that to be wrong. Now I have that knowledge and a degree that looks good on a job application but I think I learn more from forums like CS. In fact, I believe I have learned more from my own research into different subject threads, posts, opinions, etc... than I ever learned in a college classroom. (Math and Sci would be the only exception)

RE: The Bucket List

Well good on you... I did it once and it just wasn't that great

RE: The Bucket List

Indy, be honest. You only cried because you were alone.. laugh

Seriously, looks like a great movie from the previews..

RE: I dont know about this place

Lots of people have already given you sound advice and the advice about posting in the forums is really good. Since you started CS on 17 Dec 07 you have only posted twice. (This one and an introductory thread) I'm sure there are lots of folks out here who would like to get to know who you are and what you like, dislike, etc... And I think the best way to do that is by seeing you comment on the threads.

Of course I am too much of an old geezer to your eyes but I looked at your profile and you seem to have a lot to offer. Enjoy the threads, joke, laugh, fuss, show us who you really are and people will take notice.

Be well

RE: GOD V RELIGION

Really enjoyed the comment about universities. I used to have the same feeling about them and found I was wrong.

RE: I need a real woman.

Are you talking bad about my girlfriend? laugh laugh

RE: GOD V RELIGION

You're right. Anything man made is flawed. My perspective or belief in God is personal and not open to other people's interpretations. I gave up on organized religeon a long time ago. I do believe most people involved in organized religeon are well meaning, good people but this does not mean they are qualified to tell me what I should or should not believe/do. JMO

RE: What is a turn-off on a first date?

Small world, I just left Kuwait. Here's to a safe and uneventful trip thru the land of sand for your friend.cheers

RE: What is a turn-off on a first date?

Thanks... cheers

RE: BOOK

Doing well here, thanks. How are things in Tennessee? I hope they have improved as I have heard you guys and Kentucky got hit pretty hard last week.

RE: What is a turn-off on a first date?

Being late, cell phones and using excessive foul language.

RE: BOOK

So, how was the book? Sorry, at the moment I'm not in a place that we have a lot of options for reading material. From the title I gather it's not very complimentary for Bush. Care to give som highlights?

From what I know about Olberman he's one of the most fair of the commentators and one of the most pointed (I have seen him slam people from both of the major parties). Should be an interesting read.

RE: Hillary has a new perfume.

That's kind of a oxymoron isn't it? On second thought, it workslaugh

RE: Hillary has a new perfume.

Holy crap!!! rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing They really captured some less than favorable photos of her too.

RE: Why is Hillary so hated by some?

I guess we can just agree to disagree on that. Politicians telling lies is a given. Electing people into office with what is already a shady past seems foolish. Then again haven't we (Americans) shown ourselves to be foolish in the past.

RE: Paranormal and Us ... do u believe in it ?

Absolutely believe there's somethnig to it. I've never seen ghosts or heard bumps in the night but I sometimes dream things and if I have the same dreams more than once they often come to pass. 3 of the same dream seems to be the key for me and I have been accurate about 60% of the time. Sometimes the dreams have significant impact but more often they are just little things. Oddly enough the more significant impact dreams are much more accurate than the others

Some could argue that it's just a persons subconcious mind solving problems or digesting information taken in during the course of a normal day but I don't think that's the case. I really believe we haven't even scratched the surface of our potential.

If this type of thing is possible then I see no reason why other things would not be possible as well. Guess we'll all find out for sure one day

RE: what is up with the forums lately?

Not me...laugh I post when I can and try not to get into the bashings..

On another note, there's a bit of a nasty squall in Malta right now, keep your head down. The wind and the sea is rough.

RE: Prayers for baby Kayden!!!

My thoughts and prayers are with you, your family and Kayden. I really hope there's a full recovery. Take care

RE: Mitt for President!

Hey, no one did, I am just getting ready for work and thought I would drop in for a moment or two.. I just couldn't resist an opportunity to throw a zinger at Clinton.

Well, I don't want to hijack a thread so I will be off. You take care now... cheers

RE: Danica Patrick's beaver online (for men only)

That beaver was a little hairy wasn't it?laugh

RE: Poll for AMERICANS with only 2 choices

Of course I voted but I did it via absentee ballot. I was in Kuwait at the time. I will be home to vote in person for the GE.

RE: How well traveled are you really?

What's Azerbaijan like... what makes it worth going to visit?

It really is a great place. I spent over 2 years there and traveled all around the country. Baku has some really intersting and well preserved historical sites. The people are really nice and will go out of their way to make you feel welcome. Cost is relatively inexpensive (A full dinner for two at a nice Azeri resturant will cost you no more than $20.00) Nice hotels are expensive but there are good hotels for around $100 a night.

Getting around the city is easy and cheap as well. About $3 - 5 dollars will get you where you want to go. It's also very easy to hire drivers to take you outside Baku.

It has its problems too. The Caspean around Baku is oily and the traffic can get really bad. I would suggest using the taxis and staying away from the bus system.

OK, that's enough. I may be boring the hell out of others If you want more specifics just let me know. but I know what you know.... etc... Take care

RE: Whats the best way to deal with abusive posters?

I think I know who yuo're talking about. Sounds like you're doing all you can. Some people just don't learn.

RE: Some Blonde Jokes

Nice... Here's another.

How can you tell a blonde is having a really bad day?
She has a tampon tucked behind her ear and she can't find her pencil

RE: Is it time for another American Revolution?

Indy, sometimes you're funny and sometimes you're spot on. I agree with the libertarian view as well. It's really quite simple. Most people are smart enough to make their own good decisions and don't need big brother telling them how much to eat, what drugs to take or how to take care of themselves. If they're not smart enough then they suffer the consequences of their actions. I'll not be restricted in my liberties by a relatively small population of Darwin Award seekers.

RE: Is it time for another American Revolution?

You make some good points.

RE: Dedicate a song to someone......explain why you dedicated that particular song....
