I've just been chatting to someone about this.....we didn't get the "classic" we were promised, we didn't get the "annihilation" some (Stan!!) predicted, we didn't (technically) get the Mayo victory that I predicted, but what we did get was a Mayo team that believed in themselves for the first time in a very, very long time.
They destroyed us in 2013, through sheer determination and revenge, but this is the first time I have ever seen them come back from certain defeat. The final 10 minutes were a pleasure to watch, compared the previous 60 minutes which caused me to grab 40 winks
I'm not anti Dublin, I'm not pro Mayo, I just crave a decent, competitive game of football. I don't know how the replay will shape up, I still believe Mayo will win, I just don't know in what fashion
I'm slightly late in offering you encouragement, but I'll do it anyway
I always used to travel Ireland on my own, and met some amazing people that I still have as good friends many years later. Then I started travelling abroad on my own, and again, I have met people that have become life long friends.
Travelling is all about perspective, or even frame of mind....if you head out thinking "I'm on my own", you will more than likely end up that way. If you head out thinking "I'm going to meet new people", you will do exactly that.
Anyhoooooo.....have an absolute blast in Galway I am so sorry that I am not there right now, I can even hear the music coming out from The Quays
Going back many's a year, my favourite was the 'auld fella dragging his heel across the turf and telling the "wee cub", cross that line and I'll break your legs!!! I fear for our game, I really do
Far be it for me to condone violence, but, it is a contact sport. Last Sunday, I was screaming at Donegal to "put him out". Where has the "fair shoulder" gone? It's now down to a scientific equation. Our game is losing it's passion. Yes, I know you will all come back at me quoting this game and that game, but those games are now the exception, not the rule.
I will leave you with this memory and you can take your own conclusions from it (and believe me, I could leave you with a lot more from my own county!!), Westmeath V Meath, second half.......
I'm sorry Witty, but it just shows how bad Derry are when they couldn't even beat an atrocious Donegal yesterday
I'm delighted for Wexford, let's hope Westmeath and Kildare believe in themselves today and give us another couple of good games......I need something after yesterday!!
This is the last one, I promise! I've always loved this song, it was once my party piece, but to hear these two singing it together is something special. I have a memory of a "surprise" appearance, where Joel was starting to sing the song and Elton John walked onstage? I've been searching for the video (that I see in my mind!) for over a year now, to no avail.....maybe it was all a dream
I'm shocked and delighted about our result on Sunday. I cannot believe how bad Armagh were, they just didn't want to play. Who is 8 points down and decides to play the blanket defence??? Madness!
I thought our first half display was one of, if not, the best displays of football by any Donegal team. They were in total sync with each other, so fluid, total awareness of what was going on, who was where and what was going to happen next. Loved it
No shocks all weekend, and looking at the qualifier draw, there won't be any next weekend either
I've heard this tune on the radio, but tonight was the first time I saw the video. I've watched it twice now....is it just me, or does anyone else find it "disturbing"?
I can't remember who said it, but one of the Tyrone players said, and I'm paraphrasing here, "If Dublin had to go up to Ballybofey, like we did, they wouldn't have it so easy"
RE: GAA Thread
I don't think it'll be quite that easy, but, duly noted
