RE: Minimum Wage Increase?

Excellent example ...and symbol for using the milk; here in BC, 1% is at $5,00, reg. milk in many stores is approaching $5.50; most brands of real breads that do not taste or resemble cardboard is $5.00 (4.99); same breads at other stores are 3.29 and even 2.39 such as Wall-mart, and they have sales on different brands/ selections. It all depends on which stores one can get to to make it worthwhile in either gas or time, as by public transit which is not uniform in price. Food banks are all in the downtown cores. Parking is expensive and buses can take hours round trip. The choices of 'food' is neither nutritious or really healthy; most is like a chemical mix. Paper with a bit of garlic salt and pepper sounds about right or a supplement.
The raising of the minimum wage here to ($10.25),an almost 'living wage' has helped a lot of people who had to hold as many as 3 part-time jobs or 4, depending on hours, etc., but many now can afford rents and minimum groceries working 2 part-time jobs; many more are able to live at more luxurious level in a bedroom apt, usually on the seedier parts of town with perhaps 2 kids for many are single parents...To those without any comprehension of what minimum wage gets you, they think the working poor are rolling in money and on the very brink of being able to buy their cloth rom other than Salvation Army or 'somewhat better' of being less used as from the local Value Village, pronounced by the customers there who really need them, as a parody, 'Valu-Vill-age' as the French would say it. Well, at least all the clothing is clean and their furniture is somewhat reasonable, but their prices on the cloths are within 2 0r 3 dollars of actual new clothes in many emily stores such as Wall-Mart and Target...go figure. The idiots that price them, need to actually go to those stores and learn their prices , come back and severe;y reduce their prices and by that, their overflowing inventories...
Rents here are very expensive for what one gets. Many apt. bldgs. have all utilities included. Those start at around $1100.00 min. for a large bachelor(isingle bed or sofa-bed; a small dresser and a night table; small closet or a 1 bedroom; 2's from 1500 to 2800 depending on size and location...and no pets allowed.
The worst are the majority of those retired as the max pension is about 1300 per month to live and eat on...as, I saw many elderly in Wash.DC, pet foods are a staple additive for many. (You see someone you know, on a pension, retired and old, buying dog wet food 4 or 5 cans, and you know damn well that they don't have a dog...guess who's eating it... Then all the utilities...it only gets worse...so much for being a country that can adequately care or its elderly, its pensioned seniors or it's young and not mobile at all trying to make do. Canada, for the most [art has become as the US where everyone is basically for themselves and if you don't or can't 'make it', stay by the roadside and fall into a ditch; nobody needs or wants losers around. It is a very common impression, right or wrong and Canada seems to be regressing to that perceived impression by the day.

RE: Is it sad what people call music today ?

Given what is played on both the AM and FM stations keeps reminding me of an old quote from Friedrich Nietzsche:
"Only sick music makes money today." laugh
Then I think of what Luciano Pavarotti once said,"You don't any brains to listen to music"...Seems to fit rather well.
One must remember though, that not everyone likes, or appreciates and in some cases, can't understand some types of sounds that many would not call music and here one should recall what President Richard Nixon once said: "I have often thought that if there had been a good rap group around in those days,(his teen-age years), I might have chosen a career in music, instead of politics." Nixon doin' Rap...???rolling on the floor laughing

RE: What do you think about PV - photovoltaics, ecological electricity?

Tesla did not at age 98; try his bio on Google, not wikipedia.

RE: Is George Clooney right????

Agree absolutely. World history is made up of integral parts of all countries, especially culturally related matters like works of art. It is something that can't be given or sold of to another without the unanimous consent of the peoples of the country in question. I do not subscribe to the preposterous idea that a country can have its heritage sold, nor allow another country to hold in perpetuity because they bought it...The very idea is mentally ill as much as those who advocate the buying and selling of a country's cultural heritage, no matter how feeble minded a government may be. I do have one proviso though, and that is when a country is too feeble minded or bankrupt, some cultural body should step in if the artifacts are in danger of being destroyed by the peoples of that country or groups.
It is also with some sadness that upon having experienced a seemingly lack of care for their antiquities in Egypt by those responsible or their care, others from the outside should be brought in to properly care for them, as total corruption there is allowing many of the treasures to become lost, stolen or sold off and substituting many with fakes. Greed and general incompetence is no way to administer the cultural heritage of a country.

RE: What do you think about PV - photovoltaics, ecological electricity?

If Nicholas Tesla had succeeded in his ides for totally free electrical power, drawn primarily from the atmosphere around our planet, everyone, from humble households to corporations, no one would be paying anything to any electrical companies. This was the overall opinion of the largest utility company at the time, Con Edison. Tesla's concepts and abilities to do this would have put them all out business. We all know all too well what happened soon after his public demonstrations on how this would work; he conveniently died. Popular opinion was unanimous in that he has murdered to stop this. His manuals, instructions and most of his diaries on further works and inventions also conveniently disappeared. Many were confiscated by the US government under what we euphemistically label today as "National Security". It is interesting to note that all those records are classified as 'top secret' . At exactly what level, no researcher has yet been able to find out and so we all continue to pay our yearly price increases for our electricity and the electrical companies have no plans to phase out any pay as use form for "their" power which was the end goal of Tesla's inventions and ideas, within a few short years. Companies and the giant corporations stagnate the development of and conversion to a free service for the benefit of humanity in favour of endless profit. Not very ethical or moral at all . Perhaps we will soon be told we must pay rates for the air we breathe....They just haven't yet figured out how to charge us for something that is free, all around us.

RE: Best zombie movie

OH, but you forgot to list so many others, both of the schlock variety and the hilarious parodies of the 'typical' Zomby movies, such as Fido, an absolutely well done, well written and hilarious parody. As for the schlock types, what about Zombies On Broadway, Zombies Of The Stratosphere, Zombie Lake, Zombie High, Zombie Cop, Zombie Army, Zombie Island Massacre, Zombie Bloodbath, (1&2!), Zombie Nightmare, Zombies of Mora Tav( where?laugh ) or even George Romero's first Zombie! Hoh about, what many aficionados of the Zombie genre, refer to as 'the consummate of the Zombie films', 4 star rates "White Zombie" from 1932... Perhaps a Zombie channel is needed for cable TV...laugh

RE: Valentine day?

Valentine's Day...ahhh, yes, the day a fat, psychotic child armed with a bow and arrows runs amok allegedly shooting random strangers and is worshipped as a Deity of 'Love' by some...may as well label him as a 'love-terrorist' in today's world...laugh

RE: Shine like a new penny....:help:
