RE: To start over, at middle age.

The only one that can keep you from reaching the stars is you.
The only one responsible for your happiness is you..
The only one responsible for your future is you..

You are a strong and very able humanistic person.
As such, weaker people will try to bring you down to bring themselves up, being caring and human seems to be considered a weakness in these times.. However, like everyone else, there are loads of beautiful wonderful people close to you who will always be your rock...
Where focus goes energy flows... have a great life my friend teddybear

RE: How do You like Your marshmallow

When I have drinking chocolate, I like 3 floating on top.. not sure if they are as big as the ones you have! cheering

RE: Food Waste

We are consuming it in every way. It goes up through the food chain, and we are top of that food chain.
Yet we are the only ones in that food chain that 'deserve' it. The birds and fish are innocent victims.

I don’t think anyone deserves to be afflicted by the carelessness of another and innocent creatures in particular... Richard Attenborough in his Blue Planet shows a Whale grieving for her calf which was dead for 5 days and she couldn’t let it go!
Most likely poisoned by her milk which was poisoned by plastic.

RE: Food Waste

Ireland became the first country in the world to bring in a plastic levy in 2002. It is all reusable bags now...! It is suggested that humans are consuming plastic in their drinking water... how awful is that?

RE: Food Waste

In Ireland, all major Irish retailers signed up to the Government’s Food Waste Charter and agreed a common methodology for the reporting of food waste within their businesses.
This is new, being a moral issue on one hand and an economic issue for retailers... but retailers are going along with it. However, the biggest problem seems to be the collection and refrigeration of that surplus.. Ireland has a good system of education regarding a green environment and recycling is part of what we do... not tops but getting there!

RE: The 60s

RE: Mild to moderate depression.....

In general, when we do not know exactly why someone has been rude to us we always fill that gap (not knowing why) with negativity. We feel it is always about us and we feel disrespected! We are human after all. In truth, the rude one may just be having a bad day and that is usually what is happening and had no idea they offended! There is no excuse for bad manners but it happens and it does upset!

RE: Mild to moderate depression.....

Those are great points Molly. To add, the “Low fat myth” .. the research that found that fat caused all sorts of ailments was paid for by the sugar companies in the 80s. The fat that was taken out of food was replaced by sugar. Apart from the impact low fat diets have on the brain they cause inflammation which in turn leads to autoimmune diseases. Inflammation is crippling and killing people in great numbers.

It also causes obesity; one needs fat to stay slim! Without fat the body craves for something to fill the void.

All the goodness that is taking out of milk, for instance whey, this is worth 12 billion to the greed industry as so many youngsters consume it for its protein whilst training or involved in sport. The remaining milk is no better than water and still costs the same! Any food that is processed and engineered is bad for your health! Monosodium Glutamate is an addictive used by many crisp manufacturers and fast food providers. In essence, the more you eat the more you want to eat and the hungrier you become and calcium hydrogen phosphate is added to cheese for a similar response.

What is the “ADHD myth worth? How can a parent allow mind altering medication into their child’s system; without question. Great for teachers when these inquisitive little people become zombies and behave in a classroom! Then there is the mind altering drugs for Acne? There is a far greater incidence of acne in teenagers that consume low fat food... what a price they pay for being as beautiful as the marketeers dictate.

Yes! We have never been more connected and never felt more disconnected! Google “Loneliness” and tens of millions of sites result!

RE: Mild to moderate depression.....

Our perceptions, expectations, choices, relationship patterns, and strategies for regulating emotions and thoughts influence our mental health. Our thoughts are mind altering. There are 4 primary chemicals in the brain that concerns depression, dopamine, oxytocin, serotonin, and endorphins

In its simplest, laughter leads to significantly increased release of endorphins, exercise increases serotonin, physical touch, especially skin to skin contact increases oxytocin; the love drug and dopamine is released when you set out to do something that really interests you.....

Drs used to believe that Schizophrenia was genetic but it’s increase in the past 20 yrs is so great that environment has a great influence also.

RE: Mild to moderate depression.....

I totally agree with you. Time people got in touch with their bodies and minds. hug

RE: Mild to moderate depression.....

When it comes to the Chemical Imbalance myth, It is going to be a tough battle to overcome the science fiction promoted by pharmaceutical companies. It is worth 100s of billions to them. Depression is highly environmental and the cure lies within the person. Education and gaining techniques in taking control of ones body is a great step.

RE: Mild to moderate depression.....

I may come across as cold Rachie, , but I am not. Alas, pity involves the belief that the other person is inferior to us. It may cost nothing, but it is worth nothing. I try to be informed to the best of my ability so as an equal to others, I offer respect and I receive the same in return.

I will try to explain using the story below…

The fight of the two wolves within you
An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life:
“A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy. “It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves.
One is evil–he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.”
He continued, “The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.
The same fight is going on inside you–and inside every other person, too.”
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather:
“Which wolf will win?”
The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”

In its simplest form, the evil black one is fed with negativity including the pity of others.
The white good one is fed with positivity. However, it takes so much more effort to be positive. It is easier to stay in bed, easier to avoid getting showered and dressed, easier to not face the world, easier to lash out at others and easier to have others (co-dependents) do it for you.

A healthy person will feed both wolves but almost starve the evil one. There is no harm in having to spend time with oneself. It is OK not to feel loved. Some people are so busy living other peoples lives that they become unable to live their own. The best thing that anyone can do for themselves is to love themselves with every beautiful bone in their body and deflect the negativity of others that makes them feel inferior. It is OK to dismiss negative people from your life.

In my experience, lots of people are taking medication for depression but they have no idea what type of depression or what they are taking for it. They completely trust the medical world in that regard.

For someone that does not suffer from depression, I think I have something to offer others because I have developed the coping skills to navigate and love life without being afflicted with depression. This is just my opinion and my experience for what it is worth!

RE: Mild to moderate depression.....

You are correct in saying you must talk to people and I do! I often work with people suffering from depression and I help them research their particular issue. They are very keen to inform themselves and find it very empowering. It can be sad sometimes because they have to go back to their Drs to find out what they are actually being treated for.. One guy was on medication for 10 yrs without knowing. How can anyone even start to get better if they are not knowledgeable about their condition. Autonomy is a wonderful thing. Codependents take away autonomy!

RE: What is Love.......

Love is blind!

RE: Why do u comment on the forums.........?

I will go with #1.
You post very good threads.

RE: Mild to moderate depression.....

I cannot help but agree with what you are saying. I have never suffered from depression and have no idea of the daemons that people talk about!
Depression gives a person a right to stay in bed. To be lazy. To be moody and offensive.
It gives them a right to be very selfish to the point of taking their own lives..
Do they really think they take their pain with them! No! They don’t they just transfer it to those they leave behind. People that are afflicted with depression have a responsibility to manage it in a productive way!
Many people with depression don’t get into a deep sleep, they don’t dream, which sorts out a lot of their issues, they have nightmares instead which keeps them from fully going to sleep and that is why they feel so tired when the wake.

RE: Why do long relationships sometimes breakdown; your opinion of the #1 factor?

Falling in love is a very magical thing which many are forgetting..
However, you have to be vulnerable to fall in love.
Some see vulnerability as a weakness rather than as a strength which it is..
So, many are weak and prefer to stay single rather than put their heart on the line.

RE: Why do long relationships sometimes breakdown; your opinion of the #1 factor?

My parents were married for one month short of 60 yrs and died a few weeks apart. They never fell out of love.
They put each other first, above everything else.
Never in any way disrespectful to each other.
No power thing going on, always helped each other.
Done lots of stuff together.
They were truly happy in each other’s company.
So I suppose these are the factors that contribute to lasting togetherness and happiness.
