i had a friend knock on my door real early in the morning morning( my next door neighbour but one) about 5.30 am
she knows i am up that early, and she was very distressed, and holding a dead, very muddy rabbit
she knows i have all kinds of waif and stray animals here, and we live in a small community, and im used to ppl turning up at all hours, with all creatures great and small
anyway my friend said to me ......the dogs killed next doors rabbit .... look at the state of it, what am i going to do??
i had a good look at it, and there were no wounds, so we came to the conclusion the rabbit died of fright, which is quite common for rabbits
i told her the only thing to do, was explain to the neighbour and offer to buy a new rabbit( i know a pet cant be replaced that easy ..... but it was at least something nice to do )
she was mortified, and was worried about the reaction her neighbour would give her, and said there was no way she could confess, cos she was worried about her neigbour snubbing her
so we washed the rabbit, dried it with the hairdrier, so it was all nice and fluffy again
and before first light, my neighbour put the rabbit back into its hutch, and we went to her house for a cuppa
hour later we hear this mighty scream, the rabbit had been found dead in its hutch
so we go to comfort the lady next door, and pretend we dont know what is going on
apparently the rabbit died a few hours before and had been buried in the garden, and all the dog did was dig up dead the rabbit
i think we were lucky the rabbit owner didnt drop dead in front of us at the shock of finding her buried rabbit back in its hutch
theres lots of loopholes that ppl can use to get around the ruling
even if the police stop a dog because they think its on the banned list, the owners say its not a true breed, and has been bred with another "legal" but similar looking dog
and without registration papers, its really hard to tell if its purebred or not
it is still legal to own a pitbull in the uk but they are subject to certain conditions......they must be neutered, insured, muzzled in public, chipped, and registered its the american pit bull thats named in the dangerous dogs act
only special breeders are licensed to breed them, and under strict conditons
i have a black lab, who was covered in mange when she was found, and in a real bad way, she is totally loyal, does everything she is told and very well behaved
i have a jack russell terrier, he got left behind in a kennels, his owners went on holiday and never went back for him, he is very highly strung, and extremely intelligent, he can open doors and windows, digs his way under fences, and has a fave hobby of hunting frogs and mice and birds, he torments them, then kills them, its a nature of the dog, but not something i like dealing with
and i have a cross breed terrier puppy, well, he is a year old now, was rescued from a puppy farm, and was suffering with chronic kennel cough, he made a great recovery, and i gotta say, he is the naugtiest dog ever, but i love him to bits....... he digs holes in the garden, chews the furniture, barks all the time, and leads the other 2 dogs a merry dance
they all have their own special qualities, and i couldnt choose which one is the best
