Manners are a small contribution to civil society that make a big difference. The symbolic gesture that is paying respect means you don't go around taking liberties and you're resistant to the idea that society owes you something for absolutely nothing.
Baby boomers destroyed manners under the ethos of "just be yourself" when manners are totally a product of how you're expected to behave. Respect is a front put on by people with composure and self-control in stark contrast to generation ADHD where being yourself has consumed common decency. Three cheers for our natural lazy default state of do what you feel like. It's a riot.
Manners are more than anything else how we deal with strangers. Respect is a barrier of formality one we are better to rebuild in our relations with the machine. We hurt the ones closest to us but manners are what protect the private space in a public sphere.
I believe in being made to say please and thank you to the AI. Not just for our own manners but because manners are by their very nature artificial, manners are not real feelings but a mark of respect to the distance between who and what we are.

Or maybe that's a bit much. If you want people to think things through they need to know that they were born to die, be aware of their own mortality. But the west is a cult of eternal morning fixated upon youth, so who would you police the border with? Nobody fashionable is the answer to that.
