Although to be honest most leftists know Islam is worse than the Bible belt the reason they don't criticise Islam is because of cowardice. Islam will bomb them and beat them into submission.
And this is why the first thing students need to do is go out and get themselves beaten up. It's a character-building exercise. Once you've endured some pain then you will be able to fight people who can and will hit you back.
If identity politics didn't exist some Trumpsters and muslims would become friends and the left would reach the conclusion that Islam is even worse than the Bible belt.
And in what has the overton window shifted? In a commonsensical way I would argue.
The average person has become more liberal when it comes to progressive causes like women and LGBT, but what he's also done is turned against the idea of letting in tides of hostile foreign ultra-conservatives.
This would also explain why the left wins despite itself. They win by losing because we then compromise with an idea that wouldn't work and would be undesirable if it did work. A shift in the overton window takes place and that should be a consolation to the woke.
Yet I do think there's a method in the madness that someone behind the left is using the useful idiots for a reason. The left adopts a new position so pathetic and impossible that the rest of society adopts the old left-wing position to counter it. For example right-wingers today defend transgender people against those who wish to identify as a teapot.
If someone is black you then you have to like them - but then if you do genuinely like them then you might find yourself behaving more like them; in which case you'll be done for cultural appropriation.
Woke is a weird business where you have to like diversity even though you're not likely to adapt to anything different because the risk of offence is too great. Jokes, icebreakers and free speech are being perceived as a personal attack when that's not the point of any..
Hopefully things go downhill pretty fast, but yes I can date and avoid getting beaten up in some pretty rough areas. Paying attention to outside instead of my own feelings can be necessary.
What interests me most is watching the new politic unfolding in America because it’s always been a liberal country. All the downsides of capitalism went into an burial ground, all the land- grabbers were to a large extent insulated from capitalist dispossession. Their unemployment insurance scheme was to shoot some red Indians and take their land and to this day Americans struggle to see the problem with capitalism.
And conservative capitalism is proving to be more popular than liberal capitalism because the masses were better off in the 18th century than the 19th. For most people life got worse until capitalism delivered two world wars and one Great Depression and society had to reinvent itself.
And the reason we don’t like to be fast forwarded is because that’s what lies ahead. A capitalism that dishes out all its rewards to an ever-shrinking pool of winners. In 1960 80% did well, in 1990 it was 40% and in 2020 it’s getting down to 20%. Eventually something will snap.
